The dictatorship of confinement is the mirror of democracy. It is the morbid representation of a tyranny that is not content with its military victories. It wants to see those it subjugates bend, sink into deprivation and decadence. To see in the faces of the captives that laughter disappears and misery takes its place. Power builds mass graves of souls to bury in concrete the voices of the invisible.
And yet some continue to shout. They shout loudly about injustice, inequality, arbitrariness. They shout for freedom and their voices break the concrete, cut the wires and travel free as birds in the sky. They contemplate the meanness of this world and from their proud height they fall like thunderbolts on the heads of the lords.
Comrade Giannis Michailidis belongs to these voices. A disobedient fighter both outside and inside the walls. Intransigent with the demand for encirclement to this day. Humble as a personality as much as a sworn enemy of exploitation, our comrade condenses in his journey the meanings that today we are called to defend collectively. Revolutionary consciousness against subjugation, abnegation against self-interest, the sharpening of the struggle against disarmament and generalized resignation.
In the face of the general decadence that prevails around us, there are people who, with their faith and dedication to revolutionary ideals, have left their own special mark in the militant struggle for total liberation. The lives of these people, whom we are honored to call comrades, weigh like mountains. Therefore, the struggles they wage are the struggles of all of us. Giannis placed a stake on his body to defend the collective current of those who chose to march, from the first to the last day, on the paths of intolerance through the walls.
Coming to the present day, the disparate personal paths of both met in the common will to dare to fight for something better. Our captivity may hastily suggest that we were defeated in some way, but we vowed not to let prison deprive us of our little daily struggles and dreams. Today it is our turn to pick up the thread of practical solidarity by defending the community of political prisoners. Starting today, June 11, we are going to carry out a one-week cyclical hunger strike, sending a minimum message of solidarity and support to our comrade Giannis Michailidis. We have chosen June 11 as a reference point, the day which, after the sentencing of Jeff Luers to 22 years in prison in 2001, is the reference point for expressing solidarity with those accused of “eco-terrorism” cases and anarchists with long sentences.
By defending in practice the community of irreducible prisoners, we send our militant solidarity to those who do not bow to the ravages of imprisonment: To comrades Claudio Lavazza and George Ibrahim Abdallah who do not submit to the long-term confinement of the French state; to comrade Marcelo Villarroel Sepúlveda who for 27 years has faced an ever-changing environment of confinement dictated by the dictatorial laws of Pinochet; to the hundreds of revolutionary comrades imprisoned in the cells of Turkish fascism. To every uncompromising heart that belongs to the streets of resistance.
Victory to the struggle of our comrade Giannis Michailidis.
Breathe deeply until the death of the state and of all power.
