Those July days still linger in the wind
Many of us did not experience that July 2001 firsthand, others did, and those of us who were there do not forget the beatings, the charges and the murder of Carlo, but today as at the time neither do we wonder.
Similarly, even those who did not live through those years grew up with contempt for both the police and the foam-clad rabble in the middle of July who mimicked police riot gear and, with ridiculous “declarations of war” to the powerful, led an entire generation astray.
In the years that followed until today we continue to experience the product of those days in Genoa. The same dynamics recur today: on the one hand there are echoes, albeit different, of words that are bursting but lacking in concreteness; on the other hand, as opposed to these new “declarations of war,” there is the continuous concerted effort with the enemy to grab a few crumbs, a few accreditations that increasingly pave the way for that “beggar’s mutualism”-which is nothing but the privatization of the beggars.
Once again we ask ourselves “other possible worlds” or anti-capitalism?
From all those who choose other possible worlds divides us a gulf, sharp and deep between opportunism and combat, between mediation and social revolution.
“We do not forget the murder of Comrade Carlo Giuliani, just as we do not forget those who forgot, exploited or sold out on the altar of political and electoral interests. We do not forget the concerted protests, the attempts to divide the “movement” before the Genovese revolt, the delusions afterwards.
Let us not forget those who enriched themselves between Europarliamentary seats and institutional positions.
Let us not forget those who first used, then divided and exploited, and finally sold out the 2001 Genoa revolt.”
Carlo lives in the struggles of those who, like us, daily put up battles that have anti-capitalism as a fundamental point without expiring in the search for the phantom “new possible worlds” nor in the annual ritual commemorations: each of us must give something, so that some of us do not have to give everything.

Quei giorni di luglio rimangono ancora nel vento
Molti di noi quel luglio 2001 non l’hanno vissuto in prima persona, altri invece sì, e chi c’era non dimentica i pestaggi, le cariche e l’assassino di Carlo, ma oggi come all’epoca nemmeno se ne meraviglia.
Allo stesso modo, anche chi quegli anni non li ha vissuti è cresciuto con il disprezzo nei confronti tanto della polizia quanto di quella marmaglia vestita di gommapiuma in pieno luglio che scimmiottava le tenute antisommossa della polizia e che, con ridicole “dichiarazioni di guerra” ai potenti, portava allo sbaraglio un’intera generazione.
Negli anni a seguire, fino ad arrivare ad oggi continuiamo a vivere il prodotto di quei giorni a Genova. Le stesse dinamiche si ripropongono anche oggi: da una parte riecheggiano, seppur diverse, parole prorompenti ma prive di concretezza, dall’altra, in contrapposizione a queste nuove “dichiarazioni di guerra”, c’è il continuo concertamento con il nemico per accaparrarsi qualche briciola, qualche accreditamento che sempre più spiana la strada a quel “mutualismo accattone” — che altro non è che la privatizzazione dei pezzenti.
Ancora una volta ci chiediamo “altri mondi possibili” o anticapitalismo?
Da tutti coloro che scelgono gli altri mondi possibili ci divide un solco, netto e profondo tra opportunismo e combattimento, tra mediazione e rivoluzione sociale.
“Noi non dimentichiamo l’assassinio del compagno Carlo Giuliani, come non dimentichiamo quanti l’hanno dimenticato, strumentalizzato o svenduto sull’altare di interessi politici ed elettorali. Non dimentichiamo le contestazioni concertate, i tentativi di divisione del “movimento” prima della rivolta genovese, le delazioni dopo.
Non dimentichiamo quanti si sono arricchiti tra poltrone europarlamentari e incarichi istituzionali.
Non dimentichiamo quelli che prima hanno utilizzato, poi diviso e strumentalizzato e infine svenduto la rivolta di Genova 2001”.
Carlo vive nelle lotte di chi, come noi, quotidianamente mette in campo battaglie che hanno come punto fondamentale l’anticapitalismo senza scadere nella ricerca di fantomatici “nuovi mondi possibili” né nelle annuali commemorazioni di rito: ognuno di noi deve dare qualcosa, per fare in modo che alcuni di noi non debbano dare tutto.
