– Athens, Greece: 2-day hunger strike at Korydallos Women’s Prison in support of G. Michailidis
Giannis Michailidis has spent 60 days on hunger strike, claiming his legal right to be released on parole, since he has already served 3/5 of his sentence since December 2021. A legal right that civil justice itself gives to all prisoners and detainees in Greek prisons.
However, it is denied to him because of his political views and ideology, subjecting him to a peculiar torture, while he is isolated in a cell ward of the Lamia hospital, with his health condition being at a very critical point.
There are not a few times that we have witnessed the vindictiveness of the state and the judicial system, such as for example the persistent denial of leave to Pola Roupa for the second time, which she is entitled to since the autumn of 2021 because she did not renounce her political identity, but also to so many other social prisoners, just because they chose not to become snitches and kept a decent attitude in prison.
All this is happening at the same time that the rapist Filippidis, the convicted rapist D. Lignadis, the murderer of Zac Kostopoulos having served only two months in prison, the murderer of A. Grigoropoulos E. Korkoneas are being released. As prisoners of the Greek justice system ourselves, we know first-hand that the practices currently being practiced on Giannis can be applied to us in the future. We have therefore decided, as a minimal sign of solidarity on our part, to go on a two-day hunger strike (24-25/7) pending the decision of the Lamia Appeals Court.
Through the walls that enclose us we stand beside Giannis Michailidis, sending him strength.

– Exarcheia, Athens, Greece: Responsibility claim for the attack on luxury hotels of Israeli interests
– Thessaloniki, Greece: Interventions in solidarity with Giannis Michailidis by Anarchists. On Wednesday and Thursday night interventions were carried out with paint and leaflets at the main building of ERT3 and the Thessaloniki Courthouse respectively. These targets were chosen in reaction to the complete silencing of the comrade’s two-month hunger strike and the courts for the extermination tactics applied by judges and prosecutors.

– Exarcheia, Athens, Greece: Anti-rape protest is attacked by cops.
A demonstration against the recent attempted rape in the neighborhood of Exarcheia and also against the rise of gender violence in Greece, is attacked by MAT riot cops after attempting to move out of the square. Many are beaten by the cops, with tear gas and flash bangs being used without any attack from the protest. A mini riot ensues as protesters defend themselves with anything that can be found to hand, be it rocks or furniture from bars. About 30 people are caught in a cafe in the square, held hostage by the MAT cops outside, until they are arrested, with one person being held after the rest are released. A video appears on social media showing a violent constant attack on an individual by fascist DELTA motorcycle cops in a street just off the square. A MAT riot cop is even seen to draw his pistol during the events, an aspiring new Epameinondas Korkoneas in the making, not long after the killer of Alexis Grigoropoulos has been released from prison. It is also known that earlier in the day the EKAM anti-terrorist unit was photographing people on Stounari and making checks, leading to one person being arrested.
What is clear is that there has been a decision by the Greek state to prevent all manifestations and protests, which is happening not by chance at a crucial period in the hunger strike of Giannis Michailidis which has now passed 60 days, a life threatening period.

URGENT: Significant deterioration in the health of Giannis Michailidis – 61 days of hunger strike
The anarchist comrade Giannis Michailidis has been on hunger strike since 23/5, demanding his release from prison. Today he completes 61 days of hunger strike without his request being accepted. His health condition has deteriorated greatly, as he has great difficulty in getting out of bed, standing up, reading and writing, his spleen and gall bladder pains are becoming increasingly severe, and he has reached a point where it is difficult for him to drink much water.
His body weight has reached 54.1 kg. Having started the hunger strike at 73 kilos, he has now lost 19 kilos, or 26% of his original body weight. His high blood pressure is 9 and low is 6, and his blood sugar was measured at 67. Having lost over 25% of his original body weight, and with his health indicators steadily deteriorating, his chances of permanent physical damage are now very high. At the moment, comrade Giannis Michailidis is on the verge of hypoglycemic shock and doctors say that there is a possibility that he could fall into a coma. The state and judicial authorities are gambling with the life and integrity of anarchist Giannis Michailidis.
We reiterate from the previous update that his white blood cell count has dropped so far below the lower normal limit (value: 2.43 with limits of 4.60-10.2 K/μL), leading to immunodeficiency. Platelets are also counted much lower than the lower normal limit (value: 90 with limits of 142-424 K/μL), and Thrombocytopenia can cause severe and threatening internal bleeding. Based on his latest medical examinations and according to his treating physicians, he is at risk of severe osteoporosis and he is already experiencing joint pain. In addition, he has severe chest pain when trying to move around. He already has a potentially permanent neurological problem in his eyes, as the neurological examination showed double vision in extreme positions due to lack of nutrients. The latest radiological examinations and ultrasound examination (on 18/7) showed that the organs now at immediate risk of permanent damage are the bile and the spleen, with the latter facing an additional burden, as Giannis has congenital thalassemia (thalassemia). Finally, there is severe pain in the left kidney. All of the above is not helped by his increased sleep disturbances, and certainly the sensory isolation space in which he is in, leading to the almost total absence of support, care and monitoring by his family members and his personal physician.
The rejections and recommendations so far, and the fact that the council has been set to a date when the comrade will be on 64 days of hunger strike, blatantly shows that the state and civil justice have a double standard. They exterminate, torture and force to death an anarchist militant, while releasing scum murderers and rapists such as Korkoneas, Filippidis, Horterias, Leventis and Lignadis. Justice is class-based, and it is our responsibility to bring justice to the streets by joining forces and fighting actively to end the extermination of Giannis Michailidis. How sure are we that there is no death penalty in Greece?
Remaining imprisoned for three years in solidarity, I directly experience the vengeance of the prosecuting authorities in the cells of the alt-right government! What we are experiencing today as an Anarchist movement is clearly an open war on all fronts by the regime.
The current junta really shows who they are with their daily behaviour on the street, with repressive laws on marches and strikes, while authoritarianism has been imposed on the whole society, with a constant cruel police state. The vindictiveness against political opponents, those they consider dangerous to their plans, is aimed at their political extermination, going as far as the physical extermination of those who continue to resist.
The sympathies of domination are not hidden. They release their friendly subjects, such as the rapist of underage children Lignadis, Filippidis who repeatedly raped women, Korkoneas who executed the 15-year-old student Alexandros Grigoropoulos, Hortarias one of the murderers of Zackie Oh and of course the fascists of the XA, several of whom are already out of prison, with suspended sentence. These are just a few shining examples from a never-ending list. While blatantly keeping our comrade Giannis Michailidis captive in prison, having already served 3/5 of his sentence and entitled to the suspended sentence under their own laws. Leading him to his physical extermination, killing him slowly and torturously with the hunger strike that they blatantly deny him his fair release.

For years now, transnational gangs with their armed formations have been gathering at the borders, drowning people in cold blood, doing business with “humanitarians” who launder funds in the name of wars and poverty. At the same time they reinforce the disorienting nationalist reflexes of societies against the deeper desire for life and freedom.
The perpetual concentration of wealth generates artificial crises aimed at expanding exploitation by any means, further degrading the lives of the social base. As the state is armed with modern war machines that sow death to every living being on the planet, the majority watches, in a state of “confinement” and perpetual terror, the deepening of repression and economic misery.
In this condition, those who choose to fight against domination and modern totalitarianism are imprisoned and “neutralized” by the mechanisms of the State, which wants to silence any voice of resistance and any possibility of revolt by applying vindictive practices.
Our anarchist comrade Giannis Michailidis, having served 8 and a half years of imprisonment and having the right to be released under their laws, remains in the dungeons of bourgeois democracy with a vengeance. As a result, he started a hunger strike on 23 May.
We, for our part, on 6 July, wanted to put our own stone in the broader struggle of solidarity by attacking with stones and paint at the entrance of the building where the offices of the well-known far-right judge and deputy speaker of the parliament Haralambos Athanasiou are housed, breaking the tight police cordon that has been woven for years in the city of Mytilene.

On 08/07/07 a solidarity meeting with a microphone was held at the square of the fountain, in the heart of the touristized and gentrified area of the city in the old port, where texts were distributed in Greek and English about the suspicion of the anarchist comrade G. Michailidis. At the end of the gathering, about 60 comrades marched through the alleys of the old town shouting slogans and throwing tricolour, while at the same time handing out texts to passers-by, thus disturbing for a while the tourist park that the city has turned into.
On Wednesday 13/07 when comrade G. Michailidis was on his 53rd day of hunger strike, and in our effort to break the silence imposed by the regime media, an intervention was made on the main newscast of the local channel of Nea Television with a video informing about the state of health of the comrade and in general about the regime of “preventive detention” imposed by the state and its mechanisms.
On Friday 15/07 in the square behind the conservatory, a microphone meeting was held, where texts were distributed and banners were put up in the square.

Today, on Tuesday 12/7, the council for the release of the anarchist hunger striker Giannis Michailidis, who has been on hunger strike since 23/5, was set. The prosecutor’s proposal was rejected, so it remains for the Lamia council to meet on 25 July, the 65th day of our comrade’s hunger strike.
There is no doubt. The judiciary is torturing and attempting to completely exterminate our comrade. Giannis has been entitled to his release for months now, as he fulfils the formal conditions, but he is being held as a “preventive” prisoner because the bastards of the state-judicial complex consider that “there is a risk of him committing new offences”. They now want to cause irreparable damage to the striker’s health, with irreparable problems that will accompany him for the rest of his life.
We have no illusions. The justice system that has released murderers and rapists (Ep. Korkoneas, P. Filippides, Ath. Hortarias, Leventis) in the last few days is class-based. It is the voice of the state and capitalist society, which fears people like Giannis, because in their faces they carry the dignity and intransigence of a man who struggles and always keeps his head high. In their faces they carry the prospect of the revolutionary overthrow of the world of wage slavery and power.

The hunger strike is the only militant mobilisation in prison that is not punishable by disciplinary offence. It is the ultimate means of asserting an already tortured person when he is determined to find a way out and dignity from the suffocating conditions of his hostage situation, when he is fighting for his release.
It is an incredibly painful lever of pressure that is turned entirely against your own body, fragmenting it along with your mind.
I understand it as a cry that should fill us with anger, sharpen our reflexes and unite us against the war of the state and bourgeois justice.
These days I have suffered a great deal, I have come close to my limits, limits I did not know existed, and I have become a little more aware of my admiration for the total hunger strikers, this time for Giannis Michailidis, where with self-denial and self-sacrifice they stand proudly in the face of the murderous repressive apparatus.

– Greece: Medical opinion for the hunger striker Giannis Michailidis
The health condition of hunger striker Giannis Michailidis, who is on his 46th day of hunger strike and is under guard at Lamia General Hospital, is at an extremely critical point.
First of all, I would like to emphasize and make it known that although it is legally foreseen for any prisoner to appoint his personal doctor to examine and monitor him, in this case and despite the relevant permission, I was not allowed to have a clinical examination in person, our communication was between bars and in the presence of the police officer right next to me, thus abolishing medical confidentiality since he was listening and watching all our communication.
Giannis white blood cell count has dropped so far below the lower normal limit that it now poses a threat to the striker. Leukopenia leads to severe immunodeficiency. Platelets are also very low and Thrombocytopenia can cause severe and threatening bleeding. There is anaemia that is getting worse, disturbance in liver function, hypocalcaemia.
Clinically, the striker now reports that at the slightest effort he feels acute precordial pain (signs of myocardial ischaemia) and severe pain in the left kidney. The treating doctors have informed him that he is now at risk of severe osteoporosis.
Giannis extremely difficult situation and his struggle are compounded by the conditions of his detention. Completely isolated in a room – cell with four walls. No window, except for a small skylight on one side, and no television (although the psychiatric examination he underwent when he was admitted to hospital was free of pathological findings). In other words, he is physically and sensorially isolated, without the slightest constant support, supervision and care from his family, his lawyer and his doctor. All this is harmful to the striker, causing him additional stress and contributing to the destabilisation of his body, as it is a kind of torture.
And the paradox is that all this is forced to be done in this torturous way, in the hospital setting, where ethically and morally the rules of hospitalization must not be violated and all patients must be provided with decent conditions.
I, from my part, will once again stress the seriousness of the health of the striker Giannis Michailidis, calling on every competent body to provide an immediate solution in order to avoid any fatal outcome of the strike.

The imprisoned comrade Dimitris Hatzivassiliadis started a hunger strike today in solidarity with the hunger striker Giannis Michailidis. The anarchist G. In the evening of 02/07 a group of comrades moved towards the building of YMET with the aim of attacking with stones and Molotov cocktails. At the same time, other comrades were setting up barricades outside the campus gate. After the attack and clashes with the cops guarding the building, a total of more than a hundred comrades lined the barricades.
Despite the widespread and murderous chemical firing, people stood their ground and the formations continued for about an hour, resulting in injuries to riot cops.
The attack was carried out in solidarity with the hunger striker, anarchist G. Michailidis, who claims the freedom that the state and the judges are vengefully depriving him of, even though he has fulfilled the conditions for conditional dismissal according to their laws. The struggle of comrade Giannis Michailidis is a struggle of all of us. And even more so for all political prisoners. Once again, without, of course, come down to earth, we see the stripping of bourgeois justice. The unbelievable irony, at the same time that the Lamia Court of Appeal releases the murderer Korkoneas from prison, the council of judges of Amfissa rejects the requests of comrade Giannis for release, which he is entitled to under their own laws, poushing him to a hunger strike. Justice is not blind. It has class and social criteria, and it is constantly reminding those who forget this and demonstrating it to those who struggle.
And since all we have is each other, I am starting a hunger strike from today 04/07/2022 in solidarity with the comrade Giannis Michailidis.

On Sunday 3/7, we held an intervention of solidarity for the anarchist hunger striker Giannis Michailidis, who went on hunger strike on 23/5, at the concert of LEX. The intervention took place in the packed stadium of Nea Smyrni, where about 25,000 people had come to the concert. The text of the assembly was read out, banners were unfurled, and a warm and moving atmosphere prevailed. The response of the people at the concert was very positive, and at times they embraced the intervention by shouting slogans.
The intervention was held to propagate the 4th Panhellenic march in solidarity with comrade Giannis Michailidis, which has been called for Saturday 9/7, at 18.00, at Eleftherias Square in Lamia. – Zografou, Athens, Greece: Molotov Attack on local cop station and riot outside Zografou university campus in solidarity with Giannis Michailidis
Several hundred (not 50 like the media report) hooded in groups attack the MAT riot cops at the local cop station just round the corner from the Zorgrafou university campus, where there is also a 3 day Anti-Racist Festival occuring with Hip Hop live. The attack on the cops sparks a 2 hour battle with the cops at the entrance to the campus, in which burning tyre barricades, fire extinguishers, a rain of stones and wave after wave of molotov attacks are inflicted on the state murderers in uniform. The riot only stops after a continous assault by the cops with not only CS gas but the internationally banned CN gas that burns skin. Several comrades require immediate care from comrades after breathing in the gas. The attack on the cop station and following riot was accompanied by continous shouting of slogans for Giannis Michailidis. It is later reported in the mainstream capitalist media that four cops were injured during the clashes.

– Berlin, Germany: Update from a gathering-march in solidarity with G. Michailidis
On 01.07 a meeting was held outside the Ministry of Justice in solidarity with the fighter Özgül Emre and for her immediate release. Last Wednesday 29.06 the fighter successfully ended her hunger strike after she managed to win her demand and got her clothes back.
The assembly of solidarity with G. Michaelides participated in the gathering with anti-repression banners and slogans in different languages. Then a march took place from a central point in Berlin to the Kreuzberg neighbourhood. The march was pulsating and many slogans were shouted in solidarity with many captured fighters in different parts of the world.

– Athens, Greece: The 2nd march in solidarity with the anarchist hunger striker Giannis Michailidis
On Thursday 30 June, the Assembly of Solidarity with the anarchist hunger striker Giannis Michailidis called for the “3rd Panhellenic Day of Action and Solidarity for Giannis Michailidis”. In Athens the second central march took place, which started from Propylaea, passed through Omonia, reached Syntagma and ended again at Propylaea. It numbered about 600 people, and was supported by several organisations and collectives. The police presence was again strong, with riot police cordoned off left and right to the end. Their attitude in this particular march was more provocative and abusive. However, the march was completed as normal.

– Greece: Medical opinion for the hunger striker Giannis Michailidis.
On 24th of June 2022, I examined as his personal physician the detained hunger striker Mr. Michailidis in Lamia Hospital, who is hospitalized in the pathology clinic under surveillance.
From the clinical examination, as well as from the examination of his laboratory and paraclinical tests, the following results emerged: The hunger striker Mr. Michailidis, who is already on his 34th day of strike, has lost more than 21% of his body weight and has started to present serious health problems.
Specifically, I must point out that vital organs such as the liver, heart and spleen have already started to malfunction. Hunger striker Giannis Michailidis is already suffering from anaemia, thrombocytopenia, hypercholesterolemia and hypoalbuminemia.
He suffers from tachycardia and haemodynamic instability, severe gastrointestinal disorders and blood clotting disorders.
My medical assessment is that, in a very short period of time, he may develop severe multi-organ failure (circulatory, gastrointestinal, respiratory) as well as severe and irreversible failure of vital organs (liver failure, kidney failure, heart failure, brain haemorrhage), which may lead to “multi-organ failure”, a life-threatening condition for the hunger striker, or to the creation of permanent damage that will result in significant permanent disabilities.

– Exarcheia, Athens, Greece:
Protest and riot against the occupation of Exarcheia by cops and the construction of a metro station. DELTA motorcycle cops are attacked by the crowd assembling for the protest in the square, as the cops pass several times provocatively. A dynamic and strong protest marches through the streets of Exarcheia in support of the neighborhood and shouting also slogans for Giannis Michailidis. As night falls groups of hooded individuals spread out into the streets with molotovs, on the hunt for the cops, attacking the usual static postion of MAT riot cops outside the PASOK HQ, but also ambushing a DELTA squad once again. In actual fact the DELTA squad are not seen again all night, while the hooded ones numbering hundreds begin a riot that goes on for hours against the MAT riot squads that are called into Exarcheia. During the night a surveillance camera is also found in a car right at the point where the protest started and also the conflict began with the DELTA. The windows are smashed and the camera taken, all of of this occuring only a few days after Nikos Romanos was subjected to surveillance by a camera in a car.

On Friday 24.6 we held a rally and march in the Kreuzberg neighbourhood as part of the international day of solidarity with the anarchist hunger striker G. More than 60 comrades gathered at the Kottbuser Tor in Kreuzberg Zentrum and after one hour we moved to Marianneplatz, where the march ended.
During the rally the text of the comrade was read in German and English and an update of his situation was given in Turkish. Solidarity slogans were shouted and we went out into the street in a united manner. The march had a pulse, slogans were shouted in different languages, leaflets were handed out and there were several cloths of solidarity with the comrade and against the prisons. Also an informative text was read about the situation of the hunger striker Özgül Emre who has been held prisoner since 16.05 in a German prison in Rohrbach. Özgül Emre has been on hunger strike since the first day of her imprisonment for refusing to wear the prison uniform.

Anarchist Giannis Michailidis, a prisoner in Malandrinos prison, has been on hunger strike since 23/5 demanding his freedom. The comrade meets all the criteria for his temporary release, and against the vindictive prolongation of his detention he is putting his own body as a barrier at the risk of his health and life. Responding to the call for an international day of actions in support of his struggle on 24/6, we sabotaged 7 ATMs of various banks in the old town, in the center of Chania, as a minimal act of solidarity and at the same time expressing our opposition to the phenomenon of extreme touristization that we are experiencing in Chania.
Indicatively, there are no houses left to stay, rents are on the rise, and are already out of reach, the public space is filling up with more and more benches and cameras. Also, working conditions remain poor with poorly paid under-secured work, understaffed positions with increased parallel demands in the workplace, as “visitors” to our city are more than “in the record year” of 2019.

Exarcheia, Athens, Greece: How the mural in memory of Alexandros Grigoropoulos was created in Exarchia, for the week of memory and rebuilding of the memorial.
On Saturday, June 11, 2022, the days when the case of the cold-blooded murder of Alexandros Grigoropoulos was being heard at the Lamia Joint Court of Appeal, as regards the issue of the recognition of extenuating circumstances to the murderer of the 15-year-old, Epaminondas Korkoneas, the monument by the Anarchist Initiative against the state murders in Messolonghios Street and the mural created in memory of Alexis by the Political Stencil collective in Tzavella Street were presented in their entirety, despite the attempts to create a climate of terror, mainly by motorized police forces.
As the Anarchist Initiative writes: “The monuments of our own dead are our own symbols that encode historical periods of unrepentant struggle, revolutionary sacrifices, human hopes, frustrations and visions. Victories and defeats of a world that comes under the banner of struggle to win back its life. Their care, their protection, their promotion is the political duty of guarding our history. But it is also much more than that, claiming their territorial – material existence is a war for our memory and identity. Today 19/6, Giannis Michailidis is on his 28th day of hunger strike and is under guard at Lamia Hospital. His weight is 57.5 kg, down from 62.5 kg on 14/6, while at the start it was 73.1 kg, a loss of 21% of his original weight and a sugar level of 60. His condition is critical and as he approaches 30 days of starvation there is a very serious potential for a sharp decline and a risk of hypoglycemic shock and permanent damage to his health. At the same time, there is a lack of information to his family members, the hospital administration has so far not granted an attendant’s permit and there is a restriction on visiting hours. Already 39 days have passed since the meeting of the Amfissa Plenary Council without the verdict for his permanent release, which he is entitled to since December 2021. Michailidis, I appeal to end the wait immediately, on Monday, with a positive decision of the competent council. There is no more room for manoeuvre.From now on, every day that passes may have irreversible consequences for his health.

– Kaisariani, Greece: Arson of 8 luxury vehicles in the morning of 18/6 in solidarity with Giannis Michailidis by ‘solidarity shadows’.
– Exarcheia, Athens, Greece: At night a group of hooded individuals attack with molotovs a MAT riot cop position and DELTA motorcycle police patrolling the neighborhood. The ensuing battle which continues down streets sees a ‘rain’ of molotovs hit a back up MAT unit and an attempt by the DELTA to take many by surpise from behind who have been drawn into the riot from nearby bars. The DELTA are caught by surpise, leaving behind motorbikes running in fear, leading to one cop being hit in the head by a molotov and a bike being burned. Barricades are set up by a crowd now numbering nearly a 100 who have been drawn from the surrounding area because the MAT and DELTA dare to penetrate further into Exarcheia, indiscrimanatly throwing tear gas and flash bangs at patrons of the bars. They are forced to retreat by the ferocious resistance put up by the mob, who use tables, chairs and glasses from the bars to defend themselves. Of course none of this is reported in the capitalist scum media controlled by New Democracy, even if reported by others it is passed off as just another incident, when in actual fact it was clearly a sign of a dynamic and spontaneous fighting spirit that has not been in Exarcheia for a while.

The punitive mechanism and the illusion of its penitentiary character collapse in the face of the fierce resistance of the prisoners, who consciously choose to stand up against the conformity, discipline and compromise that domination tries to impose.
Comrade Yannis Michaelides, without renouncing his political identity, without signing statements of repentance, is fighting a long and difficult struggle for his freedom against the special regime of exception that the judicial process, bourgeois justice, has formed. Prison is a mechanism of coercion, the ultimate mechanism of control and recording, a system of surveillance and extermination, of forced transformation of character, but John has endured. He has not forgotten, he has not broken down, and he is now fighting, not only for his personal freedom, but for all those incarcerated and not, fighters who are persecuted for ideological and political reasons. One of the most recent examples is the rejection of applications for regular leave by comrade Paula Roupa on the occasion of the publication of her book, thus making it clear to all of us that anyone who defends subversive and revolutionary action will be tortured in a peculiar regime of repressive violence. State vindictiveness is nothing new. For all this we will stand in solidarity in any way we can with those who are hostages in the hands of the state.

In February his first application for release from prison was rejected and in May a negative prosecutor’s proposal was also announced, a few days later on 23/5 comrade G. On the afternoon of Friday 10 June, the 19th day of the hunger strike of comrade anarchist Yannis Michaelides, a half-hour counter-information intervention was held on the radio station “In Red” by the “Assembly of Anarchist Groups and Individuals for Solidarity with Comrade Hunger Striker Giannis Michailidis”
The intervention was made by interrupting the flow of the program and demanding that the pre-recorded text of the comrade as well as the assembly be played on air. In the half hour that the intervention lasted, texts were distributed to workers and leaflets were thrown inside and outside the building, while spontaneous distribution continued in the Kerameikos neighbourhood.

On Thursday 2 June at 19:00, as part of the first nationwide day of action in solidarity with the anarchist hunger striker Giannis Michailidis, a meeting was held at Syntagma, which was supported by a number of solidarity activists.
In Syntagma Square there was a microphone, texts were distributed, leaflets were thrown and slogans were written during our departure. There was a strong police presence lined up opposite the groups’ banners throughout the rally.

– Thessaloniki, Greece: Protests and riots occur in Thessaloniki in response to the murderous attack on a student who was protesting with others against the establishing of new ‘university cops’ and demolition of Steki Biologica, only adding to the insurrectionary atmosphere in Greece.
– Athens, Greece: Arson attack handing over to the flames the official vehicle used by the rector Andreas Boudouvis for his internal movements in the National Technical University of Athens. The attack communique calls for an action campaign to fight against the inpending arrival of ‘university cops’, which has sparked a continous conflict at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, resulting riots, protests and attacks, also with one student being put in hospital after being fired in the head directly from a tear gas gun, The conflict is starting to spread further around Greece. The action is dedicated also in solidarity to Giannis.

“On Tuesday 24/5 we chose, as an action to highlight our comrade’s hunger strike, to proceed with the occupation of the local news site thebest.gr. The occupation lasted about an hour and on the main page of the site the announcement of Yiannis’ hunger strike, the text of the solidarity assembly and the call from the Athens solidarity assembly for the solidarity assembly on Tuesday 24/5 at the Propylaea were uploaded.”

– Greece: Anarchist comrade Giannis Michailidis announces the beginning of his hunger strike for his realease after being on pre-trial detention for 5 months and having already served 11 years imprisonment.
– Thessaloniki, Greece: A rally in solidarity with anarchist Giannis Michailidis was held on the day of the hunger strike, which he has started by demanding his release, in the park outside the Thessaloniki Labour Centre.
More than 50 people supported the spontanious gathering, while during the meeting, leaflets were thrown and texts were handed out to local residents.

– Heraklion, Crete: Slogans painted all over the city in the middle of the night, especially on supermarkets calling for expropiation raids and in solidarity with the comrade on hunger strike.

Comrade and hunger striker Giannis Michailidis today completes 59 days of hunger strike. He has lost more than 24% of his body weight, as he has gone from 73 kg on 23/5 to 55.5 kg today. The threat to his life is now very serious as his white blood cell count has dropped so far below the lower normal limit (value: 2.43 with a range of 4.60-10.2 K/μL) leading to immunodeficiency. Platelets are also counted much lower than the lower normal limit (value: 90 with limits 142-424 K/μL) and Thrombocytopenia can cause serious and threatening internal bleeding. Based on his latest medical examinations and according to the treating physicians, he is at risk of serious osteoporosis and already feels pain in his joints. In addition, he has strong chest pain when trying to move around. He already has a possible permanent neurological problem in his eyes as the neurological examination showed diplopia in extremities due to lack of nutrients. The latest radiological examinations and ultrasound examination (on 18/7) showed that the organs that are now at immediate risk of permanent damage are the bile and the spleen, with the latest one facing an additional burden as Giannis has congenital Mediterranean anaemia (thalassaemia). Finally, there is strong pain in the left kidney. All of the above is not helped by his increased sleep disturbances and of course the sensory isolation he is in, which leads to the almost total absence of support, care and attention from his relatives and his personal physician.
All of the above makes it obvious that the state and the judicial mafia are exterminating our comrade. It is now that the responsibilities of all of us, weigh heavily, as we must stand in the way of this torture that Giannis is suffering. That is why we call on all of us to take to the streets and mass the calls in the coming days.
