The present social system cannot mitigate social inequalities, because it generates them and is built on them. It cannot eliminate wars, because it breeds wars and feeds on them. It does not care about the ecological destruction of the planet it creates.
The current social system, which has profit as its religion and ideology, is responsible for the thousands killed in labor “accidents”, the thousands of dead migrants at the borders, the millions killed by wars, hunger, water shortages.
The primary violence of Capital, the violence of exploitation, the violence of the oppressors aimed at maintaining and increasing social inequalities, the blatant contempt for the lives of the people of our Class, must be crushed.
The violence of the State and Capital is terrorizing the social base. The violence of the repressive mechanisms, the violence of poverty and unemployment, alienation, apathy and alienation.
The repressive mechanisms of the State are, especially at this juncture, the vanguard of a peculiar democratic junta that is shredding every notion of freedom and justice. It strikes at every voice of protest and resistance. The constant upgrading of the State’s legal arsenal, with the passing of ongoing and new decrees that shrink individual freedoms and collective acquis, aims to criminalize the traditional forms of resistance of the class/contest movement (demonstration, strike). At the same time, it creates conditions of preventive counter-insurgency until the final surrender of the (antagonistic movement) to the appetites of the employers, the fascists, the repressive mechanisms. The permanent bans on even the most peaceful means of protest and questioning and the crushing of those who strongly and stubbornly resist this condition is a breakthrough for the post-independence period.
The ongoing repressive attacks against striking workers, the permanent occupying police army at the universities and in the neighbourhood of Exarcheia, the unyielding attitude of the government towards the last means of struggle of political prisoners (such as the hunger strike), the constant impunity of uniformed murderers and torturers and their rewarding by the media (see the murder of Sampanis), reveal the extreme intensification of the repressive policy implemented by the modern neoliberal/police state.
They reveal that violence and poverty are the only condition of “prosperity” guaranteed by capitalism for the vast majority of the social base. That the capitalist crisis will either pass over us or provide an opportunity for a generalised proletarian counter-attack by the insurgents who are suffocating in the captivity of their material conditions of subsistence.
The latest “play” of police brutality unfolded on Friday 9/11 after the end of the mass demonstration in defence of Exarcheia. A woman, on her way to get her motorbike from Tsamadou Street, was threatened and subjected to sexist comments by the riot police forces guarding the Metro construction site in the square. The woman responded verbally to the ongoing provocations, resulting in her being punched all over her body and abused behind the closed metal sheets of the construction site.
The Minister of Public Security, Takis Theodorikakos, is the moral perpetrator of this attack, but also of the police violence and terrorism in general, which has been escalating recently, the main representative of the doctrine of zero tolerance and the war that the State and its extreme right-wing administrators have declared against society and movements. This is why on Saturday night, September 10, we attacked his political office and the police officers guarding the entrance to his apartment building (something that the minister and the establishment media “forgot” to mention), in one of the best-guarded spots in the tourist centre.
We should say that we were immensely amused by the tweet of the former Communist Youth, ex-PASOK and current far-right Theodorikakos about “brazen” people who attacked his office. Let us clarify that the primary target of our attack was the armed guards of his office who were shrieking inarticulately while being pelted with stones and paint. We, armed – this time – only with stones, return the description of the insolent to Theodorikakos and the killers of the police, who, hiding behind clubs, tear gas and batons, unleash their sadistic fury on anyone who resists.
We do not forget the visits and congratulations of Theodorikakos to the uniformed murderers of Nikos Sampanis, even before his blood was dry, thus prejudging the outcome of their “justice”. We do not forget his statements and his pseudo-bullying about Evros, at the same time that the Greek state is creating hundreds of dead migrants at the borders and in the Aegean. We are not forgetting the hundreds of people beaten and tortured at the demonstrations and police stations. So, for our part, we pledge to continue to spoil their nights. Either way, with as many cops as they fill our streets, universities and neighborhoods, no one is deterred….
