Starting today, the Ears and Eyes project is now hosted by the Counter-Surveillance Resource Center (CSRC). The present website will not be updated anymore. The new address is:

This new website has a modern design, is easier for us to update and brings advanced search features to our database, allowing you to filter and search through our 100 cases of surveillance devices hidden by law enforcement and intelligence agencies.

Athens, Greece: Responsibility claim for attacks on Airbnb, hotels and cameras in Exarcheia

In a virgin forest, a wild mountain, a quiet clean sea, a beautiful neighbourhood, the capitalist sees a “fillet”, a new field of investment and profitability. There is nothing in the world we live in, in the world of state power and the capitalist organization of the economy, that does not have a certain exchange value, that is not valued in money. Such is the nature of capital that it is driven to perpetual expansion as a condition of its survival and reproduction. Everything in nature and society is a target and a field for exploitation. In a miniature version of this process, the neighbourhood of Exarchia has recently been subjected to one of the strongest attacks in recent decades by the State and Capital. Like many other neighbourhoods in the centre of Athens, Exarcheia is still an ‘unexploited’ field for various kinds of big investors. A neighbourhood in the centre of the city, in the midst of its facade, that has been “left behind” in terms of infrastructure, big investments and profit supply to the capitalist machine.

But it is also a special neighborhood. It is different from the other – several other – downtown neighbourhoods that remain ‘underdeveloped’ and undeveloped and for which the same future of ‘development’ is foreseen. It is the neighbourhood of movements, of struggles, of politicised youth, of radicalism, of anarchists. The state has every reason to allocate many of its forces and resources to subjugate, refine, clean up, normalize Exarcheia and offer it, under its auspices, as a pawn to investors. The state knows that, traditionally, Exarcheia is the reference point of radical movements, the “headquarters” of the internal enemy. In recent years, and with particular intensity during the New Democracy government, the state has been attempting to fight what it imagines to be the final battle for the neighbourhood.

This is not, of course, a choice detached from the big picture of state policy. At the juncture of the last few years, the state seems to have considered – and, moreover, proclaimed – that it is the historically and socially appropriate moment to end the deep-rooted domestic revolutionary tradition, political radicalism, anarchists, movements, what its right-wing managers call the “ideological hegemony of the left”. In the era of economic crisis, high inflation and the coming recession, war and geopolitical upheavals, the Greek state is being shielded in the face of an unstable future. Spain: “Bark, then ride” About the discovery of a new police infiltrator.

In these days of commotion at the discovery of the new police infiltrator, from security culture, by allusions also, we want to launch some reflections.

Blame leads nowhere

First of all, we would like to send a warm greeting to the people who have had to deal closely with this situation. We know what it means to give our trust, time, support, affection and body to our loved ones and what it means when we are betrayed and instrumentalized. Especially if it is a case like this one, in which some of our colleagues have also been involved in more intimate relationships with this subject.

But it is useless to whip ourselves now that we already know it, when suddenly comments and ideas appear that, in the past, come out quickly, but are not very visible when the infiltration is taking place. We have to bear in mind that these tasks are part of police and state tactics with many years of experience that, in most cases, will surpass us. Either because of the means used, because of the intentions that lead the State to infiltrate someone, because we are a visible target, because they are trained for it and because we are human and we cannot always detect it easily. We count on the fact that this is something recurrent and permanent, that there have been, will be and will be more infiltrations that we have and that, until the hare jumps (in the cases in which it happens), it is complicated to find out. That is what it is all about and that is what they work hard at, however, they also have failures and letdowns of guard that allow us to pull the thread of some detail that, as unnoticed as it may seem to us, can lead to discover someone. What can be done now is to learn from the mistakes made, analyze the path of this person with us and see how it can affect us in the future. And at the same time, take into consideration the investigative work that has been done, the sensitivity in detecting suspicious behavior and the rapid dissemination of information to avoid further damage. Without forgetting the set of repressive tools that the state has at its disposal, infiltration being just one more and certainly less common compared to others.

Let’s take responsibility, let’s acquire good practices

But despite the fact that all this seeks to whip, the feeling of guilt and mistrust, it is true that it is in our hands to continue implementing a culture of security that safeguards our spaces of struggle and the people who are part of it. This goes through many axes, some of which have been exposed in these cycles of talks that were made from this project, with special emphasis on police work and forms of repression and highlighting the figure of infiltrators and whistleblowers as a tactic used. Claim of incendiary attack on a telecommunications cell tower in solidarity with Alfredo Cospito on hunger strike to the bitter end (Turin, Jan. 28, 2023)

DIRECT ACTION AGAINST TELEPHONE REPEATERS FOR ALFREDO AGAINST 41 BIS

On the night of 27.01 to 28.01, we attacked a cell tower with fire and with immense pleasure, in response to the international call to action in solidarity with Alfredo Cospito (from 22.01 to 28.01). Alfredo has been on hunger strike since 20.10 against 41 BIS and hostile life imprisonment.

On that night we arrived, with a smile on our faces, in the woods of the Turin hillside, increasingly cemented by the presence of the rich and infested with numerous repeaters, sources of innumerable harmfulness, both environmentally and socially.
Attacking a repeater used by IREN (a company that also operates some incinerators in Italy), WIND (one of the promoters of 5G/civilian and military use and artificial intelligence), private surveillance companies and the police, was the least we could do.

This is our small but confrontational and determined contribution to the struggle that is being carried out with great courage and firmness by our comrade Alfredo.

Last November 3, in Grugliasco (To), someone thought well of damaging a 4/5G antenna; we only continued in the same direction with further precision and with the will to sabotage that daily “normality” indifferent to the violence that power carries out every day.

The current hypersupervising and invasive technological society is creating a hyper-connected and digitized world that does not want to give a chance to those who resist and those who do not want to become accomplices of an energy-intensive system aimed at infinite production capable only of creating death and devastation in every part of the moribund globe.

Our enemy, the state, always thinks that by repressing one of us, it can intimidate a thousand; but now is the time to make them understand, once and for all, that their calculations sometimes do not add up.
It is time to consolidate certain practices (the direct actions) that not a few individualities have put in place in recent months. It is time to continue in that direction with additional strength and new forward momentum, without hesitation or fear.

It has been a long time since there have been numerous sabotage of 4/5G antennas and fiber optic installations in France (from 01.01.2022 to 30.10.2022 there are more than 104), as well as direct actions against some wind farms. Even in “our” territories, where the natural and animal world is increasingly domesticated, enslaved and musealized, it is time to raise our heads and act firmly, lucidly and precisely. If not now when?

With your head, with your heart, with your hands, alongside Alfredo and all the people who do not give up.

In the early morning hours of January 16, 2023, we gained access to a well-secured area in the Germaniastraße in Berlin-Tempelhof and took 25 Amazon Prime vehicles out of circulation using incendiary devices. A fire of solidarity with the squatters in Lützerath and the prisoners on hunger strike.

The consumer mania on Black Friday and the lucrative Christmas business are over. The pompous charity and the little bit of contemplation give way to the usual routine of everyday life. The elbows are again extended to be able to exist in the competition of the present society. Inflation and the rising cost of living apparently defying the commodity rush and the associated plundering of the planet and its resources continues unperturbed in the new year and fills the coffers of the crisis winners of the online trade. Amazon’s monopoly position and extensive business model have long revealed it to be a dependency factor for many. But the company stands for much more than just flushing products onto the market at rock-bottom prices.

Your thoughts and feelings are worth their weight in gold

The IT giant’s technological developments point to a bleak future of a dystopian surveillance and control society. Amazon, as a driving force in the establishment of digital capitalism, is not only permanently changing the economy, but also everyday life, social behavior and even our ways of thinking. Artificial intelligences and algorithms are able to contr ol and manipulate needs. Calculations that can be derived from this are already shaping today what will be made into money tomorrow. With a wide range of products and technological infrastructure (servers), the company is pushing into more and more areas of life to satisfy its insatiable hunger for data. Be it through the surveillance software Amazon Ring, which acts as an all-seeing eye guarding the properties of the rich and – now also installed in vehicles – subjects the environment to permanent monitoring. By the voice assistance Alexa, which lurks as ears of the AI in the living rooms and bedrooms and attends even the most intimate moments. By means of facial recognition programs and sensors that are supposed to interpret emotions and direct customers through the self-pay stores of Amazon-Go. Or with a variety of developments in the fields of health and biotechnology to capture everything physical and break it down into numbers. Amazon knows that anyone who has large amounts of information and data at their disposal and can translate the present into mathematical dimensions also has the power to influence the future to their own advantage. China: ‘The Invisible Coat’

China is probably ahead of everyone else in turning the country into a digital concentration camp. CCTV cameras are installed almost at every step and residents are very tired of the constant monitoring, believing that the state thus interferes in their personal lives.

However, for every action of the state, a person looks for counteraction.

Graduate students from Wuhan University won Huawei’s cybersecurity innovation competition, demonstrating a coat whose camouflage prints can hide a person’s identity from AI cameras.

The contest winners say the prints were created using artificial intelligence. The whole point of the pattern on the fabric is to reflect light, so that surveillance cameras can’t react to visible light. At night, special devices, with which the coat is also equipped, distort the thermal radiation and thus manage to deceive the infrared sensors of smart cameras.

The “smart” coat is called InvisDefense. The creators are confident that they have found a reliable way to bypass human recognition technology. Engineers tested their development on campus surveillance cameras. According to the results of the tests, it became clear that in reality the detection accuracy is 57%.

In the future, the developers intend to create “invisible” objects for AI cameras. It can be all sorts of objects or even a car. They are also studying the possibility of bypassing other types of cameras that use remote sensing of satellites or aircraft.

The developers themselves say that their work is intended to identify vulnerabilities in the surveillance system in order to improve it. However, stealth coats are already on sale and at a relatively low price.

Italy: A bug was found at the Circolo Anarchico “La Faglia” in Foligno

On the evening of Dec. 16, a bug was discovered inside the Circolo Anarchico “La Faglia” in Foligno, which has been open since October this year. The device, which was connected to the electrical system of the space, consisted of a microphone, two antennas, a SIM card, a memory card and was also equipped with a battery. All housed inside a power outlet.

We are not surprised by these attentions, to which we have been accustomed for years, which have been repeated throughout the Spoleto Circolaccio experience, yet the nausea never goes away toward those who spend their lives listening to the affairs of others.

Our thoughts, however, go with affection to Alfredo Cospito who is dedicating his life, as he always did, until his last breath, to freedom.

Italy: Same story, same place, same shack. Discovery of bug in a Rome apartment

Probably in the days leading up to the November 12 demonstration in Rome in solidarity with Alfredo and the other comrades imprisoned on hunger strike, someone snuck into the house where we live to plant a bug. Perhaps with a sense of irony, or perhaps with investigative “acumen,” that in the continuing misinterpretation of the “solidarity and complicity” that develops among anarchists will have caused them to anticipate a collective hunger strike, the intruders thought that the most suitable place to house their bug was the back of the kitchen oven. Powered by the cord of the same appliance, it was also equipped with a battery. The incident is aggravated by recurrence, as another bug had already been found in the same place, powered by the same power cord, several months ago. Time passes but control remains.

We will not be intimidated by the attention paid to us by some among those responsible for the detention of revolutionary prisoners.
Our thoughts are fixed on the comrades who even from inside a jail are continuing the struggle.
To them all the esteem, anger and love they deserve.

Chile: 4 comrades arrested for the incendiary attack on the meat company “Susaron”

On November 3, the BIPE (Brigade of Special Police Investigations) of the PDI arrested 4 comrades accused of the incendiary attack carried out by the ” Grupo de Respuesta Animal” on September 18, 2022 against trucks of the meat company “Susaron” in the commune of Quilicura.

The investigation would have allowed through surveillance cameras to track the car where they were moving, in addition to triangulating the signal of cell phones in the house where they had gathered before and after the incendiary attack.

Two comrades were also charged with possession of ammunition in the homes that were raided and the four were charged with arson.

The three comrades were taken to Santiago 1 prison/company and the comrade to San Miguel Prison.

Active solidarity with the arrested anti-speciesist comrades!
