Last week, the International Motor Show (IAA) took place in Munich. Once again, all kinds of corporations were able to show off their great, shiny cars at this summertime trade show and congratulate each other on their economic successes in their air-conditioned conference rooms, limousines and exhibition halls.
At the same time, there’s a fire again this summer in Rhodes. In Portugal. On Maui.
At the same time, the homes of many are being flooded. In Slovenia or in Austria.
The livelihoods of many are destroyed. These deadly disasters have many causes. The IAA is one of them. We say switch off the system of destruction!
Therefore we torched some new Teslas in Frankfurt tonight. As a salute to the protests in Munich. As one attack among many on the destructive auto industry.
Tesla is one of our most prominent enemies. The company represents like no other the ideology of green capitalism and the ongoing global and colonial destruction. Electric motors are constantly presented as the clean alternative. This is a cynical lie. Like other corporations, Tesla exploits resources worldwide. The raw materials needed for the batteries of electric cars, such as lithium and cobalt, are mined in Latin America or Africa under lousy conditions. For transport and production, fossil fuels are needed despite the great green coating.
All this always happens in connection with the oppression of indigenous communities, whose resistance must be a signal for us to act.
Tesla accepts all this to produce cars that can creep around here in the inner cities. That show every day: There is prosperity. But just not for everyone. In the corporate logic, only a few are entitled to own such cars. It is a class issue who drives or is allowed to drive these cars.
