Italy: Measure and process updates for Operation Bialystok

Posted on 2022/02/03 by darknights

January 2022

As we approach the end of the trial of Operation Bialystok, it seems to us to be the right moment to spread some considerations on its progress. Although we are not interested in following the pace dictated by repression, nor in taking a victimistic or alarmist stance in the face of the activities of police institutions, we believe it is important to share information and impressions about what is happening at the court level. By conscious choice, we will summarize aspects and moments that we consider noteworthy, at the expense of a detailed and chronological description of the trial in which we are involved.

As far as the framework of the investigation is concerned, we refer to the texts “Sull’operazione Bialystok” (On the Bialystok operation) already published and circulated on the web and “Testo e contesto” (Text and context).

At the time of writing all defendants in this proceeding are at large. On January 27th a positive response was received to a request for the end of the precautionary measures to which 4 defendants were still subject (3 obligations to stay and one obligation to present themselves for weekly signatures), so that at the moment only one person remains under obligations to stay. The differences in conditions are mainly due to the different timing in the presentation of the appeals which brought the same before different courts, and to the specificity of the individual positions regarding the crimes charged.

Broadly speaking, up to now the process has been marked by hours and hours of endless hearings for the delineation of the anarchist context both nationally and internationally, hearings where we defendants have almost never been nominated. Only after many hearings did we begin to talk about the so-called specific facts. There was a certain interest and prominence in the moments in which the international relations of the defendants were exposed; this was not because the prosecution brought who knows what elements, on the contrary, we witnessed a real climbing on mirrors, but more because of the play of roles within the institution of justice. It is evident that an assize court, used to dealing with crimes of a certain gravity, sees in the international dimension of the investigation the possibility of its own raison d’être. And this, we say, on the level of the actual courtroom show; behind the scenes, that is, on the level of the investigation, and therefore of the repressive strategy, we also see something else, that is, a direction that looks like it wants to be taken in the future. These, like others in the past, are attempts, sometimes successful and sometimes less so, to structure on a concrete level the collaboration of police and prosecutors’ offices on an international level regarding investigations. Leipzig, Germany: Parts for electric cars are scarce – let’s stop the cars of the city police!

Posted on 2022/02/02 by darknights

In order to break our political stagnation, due to the Coronavirus epidemic, we went out on the night of January 24th.
We decided to set fire to several vehicles of the municipal police – parked in the parking lot of the city hall, in Ossietzky street*.

We wanted to oppose the arming of the control and repression organs, which is linked to the pandemic situation.

If we look at the last years, we see a significant strengthening of the municipal police force.

The tightening of the police laws and the continuing crisis due to the pandemic are giving (have given) them more and more competences. We can see how they are “policing”. In an increasingly authoritarian and violent way.

It is the municipal police who impose violence when we have to be restricted in our so-called free time, outside of work.

Because the measures taken to curb the pandemic are intended to forcibly maintain our ability to work and to deprive us of our social freedoms.

You will always try to restrict our freedom of movement, especially at night, or to close down meeting places, rather than factories or office floors. But we will always find ways to oppose you, no matter how difficult it is. On October 23 last year**, you managed to ban our demonstration. The city was cordoned off by the cops in a military way, that day our room for maneuvering was limited, the direct truncheon in the face would have probably been the consequence in many situations. In the years to come we will be confronted with such bans again and again.

You can ban our demonstrations and control the areas where you expect us on those days. But we remain “Autonomous. Resistant. Irreducible”.

If you take us away during the day, we’ll fall back on the night.

People who will still do it!
Until you lay down your weapons and open the way for a new emancipatory beginning!

Attaque Notes:

* according to German newspapers, four electric cars of the Polizeibehörde (comparable to the municipal police in French cities) were set on fire in the backyard of the city hall in the Abtnaundorf district.
** A demonstration against the criminalization of the revolutionary movement and the stigmatization of the working-class district of Connewitz was planned in Leipzig on October 23, 2021, but was banned.

Athens, Greece: Responsibility claim for attacks in solidarity with comrade Haris Mantzouridis

Posted on 2022/01/30 by darknights

Comrade Haris Mantzouridis has been a prisoner of the state and its mechanisms for 4 months. On 13 October, uniformed masked men of the police kidnapped him from his house in front of his family and took him to the GADA (police HQ). There he is accused of involvement in a robbery of a safe deposit box in Zografou in 2018 with the only evidence being an “orphan” DNA sample found in adjacent premises after the suggestion that an “anonymous citizen” seems to have made to the cops.

The use of DNA as evidence of guilt while scientifically perverse and false is used extensively by the state and its repressive mechanisms to hostage and trap militants. At the same time, the existence of an “anonymous phone call” clearly shows the orchestrated effort of the state mechanism to trap the comrade.

The state crime and the vindictiveness towards Haris because of his long-time participation in the anarchist space continues and goes beyond any limit as while he has applied for release due to his serious mental health, the prison prosecutor prosecutes him for false self-harm with the purpose of attempting to escape, which sends him to the disciplinary court. At the moment, the comrade is being held in the psychiatric hospital of Korydallos prison with conditions there further discrediting his charged mental health. UK: About the total surveillance order facing anarchist comrade Toby Shone EN/DE/ES/FR/IT/PL *UPDATED*

Posted on 2022/01/27 - 2022/05/02 by darknights

* UPDATE * SCPO HEARING FOR ANARCHIST PRISONER TOBY SHONE HAS BEEN ADJOURNED UNTIL 6 MAY.

Even though the cops couldn’t prove their terrorism case against him after a four year investigation, anarchist prisoner Toby Shone is facing a Serious Crime Prevention Order that will legally sanction the criminalisation and total surveillance of him and everyone around him for years to come after his release.

In November 2020, a series of co-ordinated raids against one of the alleged administrators of the website 325.nostate.net was executed by counter-terrorism cops in the UK as part of “Operation Adream”. Several properties in the southwest of England were searched and one person, Toby Shone, was arrested at gunpoint in the Forest of Dean and charged under the Terrorism Act. This was the first time the British State attempted to prosecute an anarchist under modern terrorism legislation and the first time that somebody was prosecuted for being suspected of running an anarchist website.

Toby was originally charged with providing a service enabling others to access terrorist publications, with fundraising for terrorist purposes, and with two counts of possession of information likely to be useful to a terrorist. He pleaded not guilty, the cops weren’t able to produce any evidence, and the prosecution was forced to drop these charges on October 1st 2021.

In the end, Toby Shone was sentenced to 3 years 9 months in prison for 8 drug offenses on October 13, 2021. The ‘drugs’ were psychedelics and medicinal plants found at two of the four properties raided in November 2020, all collective spaces. He served 8 months of this sentence on remand at HMP Wandsworth and is currently held in HMP Bristol. He is due for release sometime between August and December 2022. Athens, Greece: Responsibility claim for arson attack on Hertz dealership in solidarity with Haris Mantzouridis & Steki Biologico

Posted on 2022/01/23 - 2022/01/23 by darknights

“The tradition of the oppressed teaches us that the ‘state of emergency’ we are now living in is not the exception but the rule. We must manage to grasp history with this awareness.” – Walter Benjamin.

The Greek state is in the process of strengthening and intensifying its repressive mechanisms and under the umbrella of the doctrine of “law and order” is further arming its defences. It creates and nurtures daily bipolar and tactics of social division (vaccinated-unvaccinated) and at the same time focuses on the narrative of the enemy within, with the anarchist space and its militants at the forefront. It applies a doctrine of shock, with the regime’s peak being terrorism, this time through the virus, the external threat from neighbouring countries, the projection of “violent” incidents in university campuses and the simultaneous silencing of the revaluations, impoverishment and poverty of the largest population of the country, the resisting parts of society becoming the recipients of the state’s vengeance. The aim of the current government of the New Democracy is to consolidate impoverishment by completing the work of the social democracy it succeeded. At the same time, faithful to its historical rendezvous with revisionism, the Greek right aspires to put a tombstone on the struggle against impoverishment by intensifying repression against the resisting parts of society and trying to delegitimise the memory of the struggle against the state and capital.

For more than 3 months now, the latest episode of this attack has been unfolding, the prosecution against comrade Haris Mantzouridis, who currently remains in custody in the psychiatric hospital of Korydallos prison. The case is based on a trumped-up indictment, which, in addition to the classic tactic of the “anonymous phone call” that pointed him out as a suspect, is reinforced with the last tool the repression has at its disposal, the “genetic material mix”, accusing the comrade of robbing a money transport company in 2018 and setting fire to a car dealership in 2009. After being kidnapped outside his home by security guards in October, the comrade was initially taken to Korydallos. There he had a first panic attack, which resulted in a head injury and his transfer to the psychiatric hospital in Dafni. During his hospitalization in Dafni he made two suicide attempts, for which the prosecution authorities vindictively and sadistically charged him with disciplinary misconduct, accusing him of “false self-harm with the purpose of escape”. Their goal is obvious: The physical and psychological annihilation of the comrade. At the same time, the attack on Haris Mantzourides sends a message to the wider antagonistic movement. The concerted persecution is part of a broader context of intensifying the use of genetic material for the construction of persecution against the anarchist space. The state has the ultimate goal of spreading fear in the ranks of the militants, showing that at any moment it can collect a sample (in cases even for petty charges) and through a mixture of matching, fabricate indictments, detain and torture physically and psychologically the people of the struggle. Athens, Greece: Claudio Lavazza – A whole life dedicated to the struggle

Posted on 2022/01/21 by darknights

Our anarchist comrade Claudio Lavazza has been in prison since 1996, having already completed 25 years of continuous detention. He is one of the longest serving political prisoners in Europe. Claudio was one of the militants who took up arms to oppose capitalist rule politically and militarily.

An insurgent proletarian who participated in conflicts and expropriations in the early years of joining the movement in the dynamic 1970s in Italy. Armed fighter of the revolutionary movement of the 70’s-80’s afterwards. Member of the Armed Proletarians for Communism, a horizontal guerrilla group with strong ideological influences from workers’ autonomy. Participant in the coalition of groups under the name ‘Organised Communists for Proletarian Liberation’, an armed project to support fugitives and free comrades and comrades-in-arms from prison. Accomplice to the 1981 attack on the prison in Frosinone where imprisoned militants were released.

At a time when the meaning and content of words had not been surrendered to museification, revisionism, and boundary activism. Instead, it found meaning through the practical cultivation of hope in those imprisoned and “exiled” from the legal order by the relentless repression of the state and the parastate. That words like freedom and solidarity would be put into practice with guns in their hands. Continue reading “Athens, Greece: Claudio Lavazza – A whole life dedicated to the struggle” →

Italy: Updates concerning Mauro Rossetti Busa

Posted on 2022/01/21 - 2022/01/21 by darknights

Mauro Busa tells us that since November his mail has been under censorship again up until 22nd May, subject to extension. He is continuing to do hunger strikes (he also writes about self-harming, for example cuts, but it is not clear whether this refers to the present or the past) in order to be transferred near Lucca so that he can see his family whom he hasn’t seen since 2018.

For anyone who wants to send him money, he says prison rules have changed and it is no longer possible to send money orders but only bank transfers:

DN Note: Letter from Mauro in 2020 explaining his case and reasoning for attacking the targets he claims.

Mauro was sentenced to 12 years of imprisonment for fire, evasion and manufacture of explosive material, threats and with the aggravating circumstance of recidivism and social danger. The original attacks took place in the vicinity of the Casapound headquarters and to the Eni distributor in Sant’Anna in 2018. The Eni distributor, the multinational is for some time in the sights of anarchists for activities abroad, and a building near the Casapound headquarters. Previously, Mauro Rossetti Busa had succeeded in Florence, in March 2004, in an attack on a public prosecutor. During the hearing his convictions were unwavering: “I’ll send you a packet-bomb, the next one will be for you and these cops,” he said.

Belarus: Blood on your hands – information about anarcho-partisan torture

Posted on 2022/01/19 by darknights

28/12/21

Today the sister of anarchist Dzmitry Dubovsky published a short story after visiting the activist in the detention center. In particular, the story is about the torture that was used against the guerrillas in the first days after the detention: the punishers cut the skin off Igor Olinevich‘s heels, and Dubovsky himself was strangled with a bag and suspended in a so-called swallow. Previously, it was already reported that Sergej Romanov cut open his veins because of beatings by border guards.

We are well aware that anarchist activists have repeatedly faced beatings by the punitive authorities. But since August 2020, the cops no longer have any brakes at all. This blatant sadism existed in the so-called “law enforcement” agencies even before the protests began. A person does not turn into an animal overnight. Many tortures and beatings before the “political” were tried on ordinary prisoners.

The story of the anarcho-partisans is just a drop of what is now happening in the country. There are thousands of people sitting behind bars who have no voice at all and we have no doubt that they are being beaten and tortured on an ongoing basis. Even after they are sentenced. The Belarusian dictatorship has evolved from an authoritarian regime into a sect of sadists, ready to shed blood not just to keep power, but to enjoy the process itself. If you have any doubts about the people working in the MIA/KGB system, then think of all those who are now fighting in prisons for your and our freedom.

We will never forget every drop of blood spilled in the fight against the regime. For every groan and cry, not only the officers, but every asshole who carried out the sentence will pay. You may have won in 2020, but the war on the dictatorship continues!

Until everyone is free!

Chile: Text from comrades Ignacio and Luis Avaca in response to the events of November 12

Posted on 2022/01/11 - 2022/01/11 by darknights

14/11/2021

In view of the events that took place on November 12 of this year, in which we were involved, we declare that it will never be an option for us to put our dignity at the disposal of the jailers, whether they are procedures completely subject to regulations, or simple humiliations. At times these may be perfectly regulatory, however, we are not guided by their rules, much less by the orders they expect us to obey, and, without wishing to victimize us, we consider that this whole spectacle was nothing more than a provocation and a targeted attack, from which they did not expect the aggressive response we gave them, always in defense of our dignity and integrity.

The facts:

At about 4 o’clock in the afternoon, a procedure takes place in module 85, in which, until now, we are locked up. This raid was attended by gendarmerie personnel from outside the module and officials from CEAC (gendarmerie canine training). From the beginning, the provocations by one of the latter officials became evident towards Luis, who received at least 3 open-handed blows to the head, as well as insults from the official. Up to this point we had decided not to get too worked up over the matter, but later, and again Luis was forced to perform a squat, a completely unnecessary humiliation in our eyes, but supposedly regulatory for the gendarmerie.

Faced with his refusal to perform the movement, the officer who was ordering him to do it pushes him to the ground, and a pack of other gendarmes accompany him, hitting him with their fists and even sticks. Ignacio attacked one of the officers who were beating and trying to reduce Luis, receiving the same treatment from another group of guards, who threw a large amount of pepper spray on his face and body. Once reduced and handcuffed, we were led away from the rest of the inmates, being constantly insulted and threatened by the gendarmes, who tirelessly repeated to us that “we were going to go to wash” to the high complexity modules, as a reprisal for our action, and for being ” anarchists” and/or “subversives”.

After this we were taken to the penitentiary hospital, where we were made to sign an injury report that did little or nothing to clarify the aggressions suffered. Once we were taken to the punishment cells, where we were isolated in a room together. At about 11 p.m. we were visited by the warden of the penitentiary complex, who was accompanied by an official with a Gopro type video camera, with which he recorded our narration of “our version” of the events.

The next day, we were taken to the internal guard cells, and only Ignacio (although the result applied to both), was interrogated and reclassified by one of the captains, who was present during the procedure, who after lying about his supposed knowledge of the consuctacion of the other subversive prisoners, not only repeated the previously mentioned “our version” of the events, but also told us that he was not the only one to be interrogated, not only repeated the aforementioned threat of “sending us to wash or be stabbed to death”, but also dared to say that we were not “subversives”, but only “kids”, that self-defense “did not apply” in prison, and that if we acted the way we did again, we would be moved to another module or prison. Subsequently we were informed that we would return to module 85 but in “conditional” status.

None of this surprises or frightens us, and if we have to defend ourselves again we will not hesitate to do so. We know that more attacks by the gendarmerie will come, either against us or against the anarchist-subversive comrades of modules 1 and 2, and we call for action, to show solidarity with facts, in the face of future institutional harassment and/or reprisals against those of us who resist this treatment.

Caged and never defeated!
Death to prison and to the society that needs it!

Ignacio and Luis.

Belarus: 18 to 20 years’ imprisonment for Belarusian anarcho-partisans

Posted on 2022/01/08 - 2022/01/08 by darknights

The sentence was announced today for a group of anarcho-partisans who held a series of direct actions against the dictatorship about a year ago. In an attempt to isolate the activists, the trial was held in camera and only the pronouncement of the sentence was made public.

Sentences:

  • Siarhei Ramanau – 20 years
  • Ihar Alinevich – 20 years
  • Dzmitry Rezanovich – 19
  • Dzmitry Dubousky – 18 years

Enormous sentences for symbolic actions are an example of the dictatorship’s fear of anarchists. So far, these sentences are the longest in the history of political repression in the country.
