One of the far-right activists who travelled to Southport on Tuesday night was Matthew Hankinson, an unrepentant neo-Nazi terrorist, who was jailed for six years for his membership of the proscribed neo-Nazi youth group National Action (NA).
Posts on Hankinson’s account on X (formerly Twitter) reveal he was present at the riot, where he took photographs and recorded videos of the violence. In one gleeful post, which included a video of a burning police van, Hankinson wrote: “‘Piggy in the middle’ Police vans trapped between English People showing solidarity in the face of foreign terror get set on fire by misguided Patriots who take vengence (sic) into their own hands. ”.
Before he was jailed, Hankinson lived outside St Helens in Newton-le-Willows.
NA were proscribed in the wake of the murder of Jo Cox MP after one of them posted “649 to go” on Twitter and they set the title on their website to “Death to traitors, Freedom for Britain”, the slogan said in court by Jo Cox’s killer.
Hankinson’s first post on X includes the same slogan and says: “Those who take issue with the Righteous and Just sentiment of these Noble words are those same subversive Traitors that are oppressing and destroying Britain.”
After NA were proscribed, Hankinson continued to be involved and was present at a meeting in a Wetherspoons where the now convicted neo-Nazi paedophile terrorist Jack Renshaw shared a plan to murder his local MP. Renshaw was jailed for life and must serve at least 20 years in prison.
The violence in Southport on Tuesday night, where far-right activists and racist locals rioted in a grieving community, has sparked a wave of anti-migrant violence with disorder taking place in London and Hartlepool last night and anti-migrant protests in Manchester and Aldershot. More protests are planned around the country over the coming days.
We revealed fascist group Patriotic Alternative (PA) were one of the groups behind the protest which turned violent in Southport on Tuesday evening. David Miles (aka Jack The Nipper) from the West Midlands, was one of the PA activists to have travelled to Southport.
Leading politicians are discussing responding to the Southport riot by proscribing the English Defence League, an organisation which has not existed for more than five years. Hankinson’s presence shows that state bans won’t stop neo-Nazis from being involved in violent disorder.

Patriotic Alternative (PA)’s regional organiser for Wales is Joe Butler, also known as Joe Marsh, a leading figure in the Pie & Mash Squad hooligan group. Butler is a violent fascist and football hooligan who was jailed in 2015 for attacking a female anti-austerity protester in central London the previous year.
The Pie & Mash Squad have been responsible for several attacks on left-wing activists, including an attack on a squat and an attack on a 12 year-old girl and her father. The attack on the squat in January 2017 was led by the Pie & Mash Squad who were joined by supporters of the now-banned neo-Nazi terrorist organisation National Action (NA). The squat mentioned was Belgravia ANAL Embassy a £15 million mansion in London’s bourgeois Belgravia neighbourhood which had been opened up to rough sleepers.

One activist to bus into town was David Miles (AKA the English Wanderer) from Birmingham, a core member of Patriotic Alternative (PA), the UK’s most active fascist group. Miles somewhat unwisely posted pictures of himself at the event on social media.

We would like to express that we don’t care for these political entities which we are also opposed to, we add this PDF because we find it clearly explains the increasing connections between the Conservative Party that has lurched more to the far right during and now out of power. It also identifies the far right scum involved which we will always never hesitate to broadcast far and wide. We also add that Turning Point is one of the most prominent groups that have been pushing the protests, riots, attacks on mosques and migrant accomodation that have spread in the last week.
Our report, Turning Point UK: Conservative hooligans, details our undercover infiltration of Turning Point UK (TPUK) which saw members of the group’s secret “elite” Direct Action Team offering to sell offensive weapons to other members ahead of protests which subsequently saw outbreaks of violent disorder.
TPUK has previously been endorsed by several leading figures in the Conservative Party, is involved in far-right street violence and has activists currently in prison.
TPUK’s honorary president, Conservative candidate Marco Longhi may have misled the Parliamentary Commissioner for Standards about his relationship to the group.
Allan Jones, a spokesperson for anti-fascist investigators Red Flare, said: “TPUK connects the halls of power to violent neo-Nazis involved in racist attacks. In between schmoozing with Conservative party establishment figures, Jack Ross has been rubbing shoulders with violent neo-Nazis convicted of hate crimes.
“Ross should be expelled from the Conservative party for leading a violent far-right street gang. If the people of Dudley decide to re-elect Marco Longhi, he’s got questions to answer about his relationship with TPUK.”
On 11 November 2023, TPUK mobilised for far-right protests which caused widespread violence and disruption across Westminster, leading to 126 arrests and Suella Braverman’s subsequent resignation as Home Secretary.

Since a couple of weeks, we have heard from many about the necessity of expressing themselves regarding what is “happening now in Gaza”. Arguments that seem to almost suggest that a new war has started are common even in radical or anarchist circles. Since the break out from Gaza took place, the Palestinian struggle for liberation has been suffering in Germany from being reduced to Hamas’ actions. The German State, political parties, and even sometimes our comrades, are very concerned about how far or close one can be towards Hamas’ ideas. But very little about the historical roots of an asymmetric war that has lasted more than 70 years is brought into discussion by these positions. An ongoing massacre of Palestinian people has been happening since the days of British colonialism, assisted by the establishment of an apartheid regime in an artificially created settler society.
Today, the need to condemn constructed horror stories, even when they have been already denied in the hegemonic media, still prevails in Germany. Instead of listening to voices from Palestine or their exiled communities, there is little resilience to the orientalist discourse that the state and the media are pushing, constructing the image of “the Arab” as the ultimate evil. This dynamic has been present in all so called “Wars on Terror” since 9/11, but it originated long before. Individuals and collectives, who have never been sympathizers of Hamas, today find themselves backed up against a wall, expected to follow the directives of a white german movement. First they must publicly declare their distance from Islamist ideas before being given the space to speak about their own political ideas about liberation from the colonial and fascist oppression of Israel.
The level of violence displayed in Berlin in the last few weeks cannot be explained merely as a reaction to the break out of Gaza. Students can be slapped by a teacher in school, people are facing brutal police violence in the streets, and demonstrations are systematically banned. Although anti-Semitism finds its greatest expressions in this territory, and we see it as our responsibility to fight the multiple expressions of white christian supremacy – be it Aiwagner, AFD, Reichsbürger or others – the German state deflects attention from this by accusing others. The idea of imported anti-Semitism is and remains a way for Germany to find a new demon of history and to push anti-Semitism from itself to Palestine in a historically revisionist way. The results are evident today. With the usual racist agitation, by constructing the idea that Palestinians are anti-Semitic by nature, the German state is trying to divide our class along ethnic and religious lines, as a smokescreen for the division between us and the gun-grabbers who are currently earning a lot of money from Rheinmetall shares.
In order to silence any resistance to the complicity between the german state and the Israel military and its Zionist authorities, the well-known narrative of guilt is utilized, unfolding it like a transparent mantle over the people socialized in the territory controlled by the german state.
Only now, after over 100 years?!
The sea of contradictions in which war is immersed weighs heavily upon us. Since over 100 years, we see images of Palestinian people being murdered by colonial forces. Since over 100 years, we see images of Palestinian people being displaced from their own territories. Since the II Oslo Accord in 1995, we have witnessed how the narrative artillery of peacemaking attacks all forms of self-defense and self-determination, characterizing them as barbaric, zeal-driven, or uncivilized.
We are sick and tired of seeing tons of rubble in Gaza, after decades of bombardments by the Israeli forces. And it is with this feeling that we observe the fences of the biggest prison in the world being torn down. People in Gaza have been subjected to constant violence, violence which we cannot even imagine being inflicted upon our own bodies but have normalized for others. After all, normalizing the oppression of certain people is a necessity of the colonial capitalist world we still live in. This beast needs the colonized to remain silent, to passively obey. The german “left” also loves victims to “care for” to redeem their guilt.
What disturbs some people in Germany today, is not the violence in and of itself, and not all deaths are equally disturbing. We internalize the valuation of the deaths we can put faces to, while we do not care about the faceless ones. We accept the fact that some can mourn for their beloved ones, and bury them, and at the same time we simply accept the disappearance of thousands and thousands. What disturbs some people, mostly the ones in power, is the fact that those expected to remain passive are taking action on a path to liberation, and this is when the system finally shakes. Through their actions, people in Gaza are forcing us in central Europe, to stop navel-gazing and to take a position on their reality. Today, people who should be pursuing the Western developmental ideal, throw in our faces a reality that is at times difficult for us to understand. This gets us out of our heads, forcing us to leave the place of those who dictate discourse, who say what is of interest and what is not, and demands that we draw attention to a reality that we all profit from. Or do we still think that our well-being and economic stability in this country is independent of the slaughter of others in the Global South? The Direct Action Cells carried out the arson attack on the home of the MP for Spartans (a far-right political party established in 2017) of Eastern Attica, Yannis Dimitrokalis, in the area of Ilizia during the morning of October 28. The choice of the date was not accidental. The era of resistance to the Nazi occupiers and their local collaborators, the sacrifices, suffering, toil and struggles of hundreds of thousands of fighters during the period 1940-1949 is a political heritage which we actively defend against all kinds of historical revisionists and falsifiers. The political ancestors of Dimitrokalis, Kasidiaris (Illias Kasidiaris, a far-right politician and one of the former leaders of Golden Dawn, who is still politically active despite being in prison since 2021) and his group are the ones who handed over to the Nazi German invaders the thousands of communists who were imprisoned and had begged in vain to be released to fight them. They are the ones who put on a hood and became informers. They are the ones who became black marketers and condemned hundreds of thousands to hunger and misery. They are the ones who became Hitlerites and National Socialists, swore allegiance to the Third Reich and fought on the side of the Germans and then the British imperialists. So let all these penny-pinching patriots know that history has recorded the political ancestors of Kasidiaris and his followers as the accomplices of those who stepped with their fascist boots on the heads of those who fought with their blood for altars and hearths.
With our attack shortly before the anniversary of the execution of the two neo-Nazis in Neos Heraklion by the organization “Fighting People’s Revolutionary Forces”, we wanted to send a message of militant anti-fascism by targeting a member of the largest far-right party in Greece at the moment. November 1 is a rallying point for fascists on a pan-European level. For us, November 1 symbolizes the political dynamic of armed action, its historical significance, its timeless necessity. It symbolizes the day when the constant victimization of the left and parts of the anarchist space were deafeningly shattered. Let us not forget that many political forces that are now rushing to participate in the anti-fascist rallies were the ones who, in the face of the fear of fascists and repression, had condemned the action and spoke of agent provocateurs and reactionaries. On the afternoon of Tuesday 21 February, after the end of the anti-war march that took place in the centre of Patras on the occasion of the visit of the American Secretary of State, we attacked the open offices of the fascist group “Patriotic Union” of the bankrupt* Prodromos Emfietzoglou, who has been involved in dozens of scandals since the Olympic Games and has now decided to turn to patriotism in order to continue receiving a crumb from the state budget, but also to confirm Samuel Johnson’s old saying that “patriotism is the last refuge of the scoundrels”.
In a city that retains indelible in its political history the class, social, anti-fascist struggles of the past and in which the activity of the fascist and parastatal mechanisms has left irreparable scars since the period of the Temponeras assassination2, it should be made clear and unambiguous in all directions and to all would-be imitators of Emfietzoglou that not an inch of land will be given to the enemies of freedom.
The existence of offices of a nationalist party in the central square of Patras, and anywhere else, cannot be tolerated and there has certainly been some misunderstanding on the part of Emfietzoglou with this choice. He would do well to pack up and leave…
Fascists, nationalists and other misfits, forget what you knew. This is Patras! We’re gonna kick your asses!

1 μπαταχτσή is the original word used in Greek, which is not completly translatable exactly as ‘bankrupt’. It is originally from the Turkish batakçi = bankrupt. It means a person or some one who gains from the state, especially the money from taxes, normally from corruption.
2 Nikos Temponeras was a secondary school mathematics teacher, a left-wing member of the Labour Anti-imperialist Front (EAM), who was assissinated by fascists/right wingers (even a member of New Democracy party) attempting to break up the occupation of a Patras school during the student demonstrations of 1990-91. Once again this murder amongst others in Greece’s modern history shows the complicity between racism, fascism and nationalism, that the crossover between the right wing New Democracy party (that is in power now), that members normally come from a fascist background, is a kind of requirement to be part of the party. This continues the well known slogan in Greece that ‘The Junta never ended!’
The capitalist management of the pandemic reveals in the most blatant way how barbaric and murderous the capitalist system is. A system that destroys everything in its path in the name of supposed growth.It destroys and pollutes the natural environment, the primary cause of pandemics.
It condemns entire peoples and the lower social strata to poverty, sets up hundreds of deaths from COVID 19 around the world, absence of hospitals, vaccines in African countries and other protective measures.
In Greece, and while we are in the fourth wave of the pandemic, the government continues to methodically undermine the already degraded ΕΣΥ (Εθνικό Σύστημα Υγείας, National Healthcare Service) for the sole purpose of privatising it. Moreover, a current strengthening of the ΕΣΥ will in future be an obstacle to the further exploitation of health care as a field of profit for private capital.
The law on protests, the labour and environmental bill, the new system of admission to higher education, the teacher evaluation, the university police, the reorganisation of basic goods are all coming to secure a ‘new’ reality for thousands of workers and beyond.
In this condition of an all-out attack on the popular strata, the fascists are also making their reappearance. Various far-right groups, sometimes more vigorously and sometimes not, are trying to fill the gap left by X.A. (Χρυσή Αυγή, Golden Dawn, Neo-Nazi Party) It was to be expected that this would happen. On the one hand, because fascism will exist as long as there is poverty and exploitation (acting as a disorienting factor in the struggle against the state and capital) and on the other hand, because such paramilitary groups function as a repressive complement to the official state apparatus.
