Greece: ‘To break the codes of repression’, Financial support for court expenses of comrade Kostas K. EN/GR

Back in the distant 2007, at a time of underlying and subtle social processes that would culminate in the December 2008 uprising, the authorities were looking after one of their favourite children. George Voulgarakis, a member of the deepest party-apparatus of New Democracy and Minister of Public Order, is caught up in the maelstrom of phone tapping scandals and ‘disappearances’ of Pakistani migrants and refugees. The state, however, always takes care of its children and Voulgarakis goes on “vacation”, away from the “hot potato” of the Ministry of Public Order, taking over the “loose” Ministry of Culture.

But some people do not forget and do not forgive. At 10:00am on July 3, 2007, a few hours after Voulgarakis and his police escort arrived at the ministry on Bouboulinas Street, they were attacked by a group of twenty comrades, with Molotov cocktails and a bag full of gasoline canisters and camping gas canisters, that fell into Voulgarakis’ own vehicle. The policemen open fire on the comrades, only thus managing to make them retreat.

In the text in which they claimed responsibility, they state:

“The attack on Culture Minister G. Voulgarakis was carried out as a sign of solidarity with the imprisoned militants. The Minister of Culture was chosen because a representative of the government is always a target of militants, let alone when he has served as Minister of Public Order and his term of office has remained unforgettable. He was the political head of the Ministry of Order when he intercepted and monitored the conversations of hundreds of citizens through vodafone. He was the political head of the Ministry of Order and responsible for the abduction and interrogation of dozens of Pakistani migrants. Finally, under the orders of Voulgarakis and on the occasion of the robbery of the National Bank in January 2006, for which Yannis Dimitrakis is on trial on 6 July, the anti-authoritarian movement was subjected to one of the most furious assaults of recent years with pogroms, kidnappings, slander, smears and finally prosecutions of anarchists. Freedom to those imprisoned in the cells. Solidarity to all persecuted comrades. Greece: Dimitris Chatzivasileiadis – Speech of internationalist solidarity in the context of the trial of the Organization Revolutionary Self-Defense

Since May ’22, a counter-revolutionary trial has been taking place against anarchist fighters, for participation in the armed Organization Revolutionary Self-Defense. This trial comes at a time when the state-capitalist regime is climaxing its aggression against the oppressed, the exploited and excluded. The anarchist Dimitris Chatzivasileiadis is also on trial for this case, while he has taken responsibility, both in public and in this courtroom, for his participation in revolutionary struggle through the Organization of Revolutionary Self-Defense, as well as for keeping the weapons (which in the repressive operation of November ‘19, fell into the hands of the state), in order to continue the guerrilla struggle through the experience and strategy of the Organization Revolutionary Self-Defense. The court of appeal of this particular military tribunal of the counter-revolution will be completed in January ‘23.

Throughout the course of this trial, Dimitris Chatzivasileiadis has been defending the right of revolutionary struggle, the necessity of guerrilla organization and of the armed social self-defense against the tyranny of power, and has been deconstructing and attacking bourgeois justice and its counter-revolutionary laws, inside the enemy field. With an eye to the world revolution, from the beginning of the trial, Dimitris Chatzivasileiadis is speaking about movements and struggles in all parts of the globe, expressing solidarity with those who are struggling, with current struggles, with the political prisoners and their fight today, and with reference to fighters who have been killed. These days, a struggle in italian prisons is taking place; comrade Alfredo Cospito is on hunger strike already for more than 65 days, against the state of total isolation, 41-bis, that has been imposed on him. With the awareness of how critical Alfredo Cospito’s struggle is, comrade Dimitris made extensive reference to Alfredo’s fight, during the trial. Berlin, Germany: Attack with Fire for Thanos Chatziangelou

When we carried the spirit of solidarity to Berlin-Neukölln in the first hours of January 3, Thanos Chatziangelou was in the 15th day of his hunger and thirst strike.

Our target was a truck from the car rental company Hertz, which we burned completely because Hertz – not only in Greece, but especially there – provides vehicles to the enemy (police, military, private security forces) at reduced prices. In the USA, in December, Hertz had to pay almost 170 million dollars in compensation to former customers who were falsely accused by Hertz of stealing rental cars, some of whom ended up in jail.

We found the Sonnenallee in Neukölln, a neighbourhood where there are frequent clashes with the police, to be a suitable place for the fire. After the riots there on New Year’s Eve, the politicians and the press went on a rampage against the “migrant youths”. We, on the other hand, welcome every rocket and firecracker used against the cops and show solidarity with the rioters.

Rome. On New Year’s Eve we had zero desire to celebrate. We took to the streets full of rage. Supported by an unusual as well as thick fog, we attacked with fire the multinational Hertz, burning 4 vans. Those shits in Greece have made deals to supply vehicles to the cops.

BE WHERE THEY DON’T EXPECT – ROME JANUARY 1 – 25 HERTZ VEHICLES SET ON FIRE

During the 1st night of the year we left flammable material and lit the triggers on ten HERTZ car rental vehicles parked along the Appia Nuova. According to media reports a total of 25 vehicles including cars and vans were devoured by flames.

Hertz collaborates with the Greek police by supplying them with vehicles at bargain prices thereby making itself complicit in the often murderous repressive violence that it exercises on a daily basis to protect the economic and political elites that dominate through the Greek state. On December 5 just past, on the very day before the anniversary of the death of the young anarchist Alexis Grigoropoulos, a policeman shot and killed a 16-year-old member of the local Roma community, Kostas Fragoulis, in Thessaloniki. The same had happened the previous year. The Greek police are responsible not only for the repression of the anarchist movement active in that country, but also for continuous violence through harassment, beatings, rape (a recent case occurred in a barracks in Athens) and murders against the poorest and most marginalized components of the population, as well as anyone who tries to organize to defend themselves against the systemic violence of capitalism, confirming themselves as the state organ predisposed to disciplining the exploited and oppressed. That is why anyone who collaborates with this institution is to be regarded as an enemy of anyone who fights for the freedom and self-determination of peoples in an internationalist logic, and treated accordingly. For these reasons we attacked Hertz in Rome and will continue to do so at every opportunity. We call through this action on Hertz, since we cannot appeal to any arguments and ethics since the only reasonable value and argument for this company is evidently profit and economic growth, to stop any cooperation with the Greek police, otherwise the losses caused by international anarchist solidarity could be greater than the profits…

With this gesture we want to send a message of closeness and solidarity to:

Thanos Chatziangelou, on hunger and thirst strike since December 19 in Nigrita Prison to demand explanations about his punitive transfer from Korydallos Prison;

to Alfredo Cospito, on hunger strike since Oct. 20 against the 41bis regime to which he has been subjected since May 2022 and the hostile life sentence;

to Ivan Alocco, again on hunger strike since Dec. 22 in solidarity with Alfredo, imprisoned in France being accused of several arson attacks against diplomatic and company cars;

to Juan and Anna; to Rupert recently arrested for accumulated sentences; and to Massimo, whose house arrest has been confirmed;

to Toby Shone forced into British jails and who will be subjected to particularly restrictive measures because of his claimed anarchism;

to all anarchist and rebel prisoners in the world;

to all those anarchists of action who stubbornly continue to risk their freedom to chase the craziest of dreams. Forward comrades! Our hearts beat in unison despite miles separating us!

Our comrades on strike instill in us determination. This is not the time of despair and resignation for us, this is the time of conscious anger that arms our will to act.

Scripta Manent:
A political trial against 20 years of the history of revolutionary anarchism

The events:

At dawn on 6 September 2016, 32 comrades throughout the Italian State were awakened by the civil police (DIGOS). The result of the first part of the police operation called “Scripta Manent”, ordered by the Turin Public Prosecutor’s Office through its investigator Roberto Maria Sparagna, is 15 suspects and 7 arrests. On the other hand, an eighth anarchist, in charge of the Anarchist Black Cross publishing project (now closed), is arrested after a house search against him in which batteries and an electrician’s manual were found. In addition to comrades Alfredo Cospito and Nicola Gai, already in prison since 2012 having been tried and convicted for the injury of Roberto Adinolfi, (CEO of Ansaldo Nucleare) action taken by “Nucleo Olga of FAI/FRI”, comrades Alessandro, Marco, Danilo, Valentina and Anna are arrested. For the comrades, articles 270 bis (on association with terrorist purposes), 280 bis (on terrorist acts with lethal or explosive devices) and 285 (on massacre) are triggered for various reasons, which are in question starting from as far back as 2003 and all relating to a series of attacks specifically signed by the “Informal Anarchist Federation” through the cells FAI/Narodnaya Volya (FAI/ People’s Will), “Cooperativa Artigiana Fuoco e Affini FAI/Collaboration of Fire and Artifacts (Occasionally Spectacular))”, “FAI/RAT ((Rivolta Anonima e Tremenda/Federazione Anarchica Informale – Anonymous and Tremendous Revolt/Informal Anarchist Federation)” and “Nucleo Olga FAI/FRI” (FAI/IRF Cell Olga).

Thus, there is the umpteenth investigation of the Informal Anarchist Federation, another attempt to fish in the darkness just to secure a salary, which between the period of investigation and trial, makes as many servants of the State as possible fatten their pockets. During the first months of this operation, the arrested comrades have been subjected to bans on meeting each other, censorship of correspondence, complete isolation and several transfers. In April 2017, the announcement of the closure of the investigation – for those arrested and under investigation in September 2016 – added, in addition to the crimes previously contested, to 12 of the 17 original accused to Article 414 of the Criminal Code (on incitement to commit a criminal act with terrorist purposes) as authors and/or distributors of the work of the Anarchist Black Cross, the newspaper and the blog, making explicit reference to certain opinion articles and other articles from No. 0 to No. 3. With regard to the offence of incitement to crime, the aggravating circumstance of “committing the act by means of computer and telematic tools” is also mentioned. Thessaloniki, Greece: Responsibility claim for solidarity attack on stores with the anarchist hunger/thirst strike of Thanos Chatziangelou

Lately the state has been intensifying social misery and repression while at the same time sharpening class barriers, making survival a luxury. It is trying to impose total social control over every aspect of our lives, thus reinforcing its counterinsurgency policy. One of the social groups that experience this control to the greatest extent is the prisoners, being a subject completely cut off and stigmatized from the rest of society, thus becoming the perfect breeding ground for the harshest state policies.

Thus, on 28/10 the new penal code is passed which, among other things, includes the tightening of the conditions of leave and conditional dismissal, tightening of disciplinary procedures, extending the detention time of those accused of criminal-terrorist organizations, robberies or drugs, reintroducing type C prisons as ” Maximum Security Prisons ” and the prohibition of transfer to rural prisons. In this way, the regime of exclusion experienced by political prisoners is deepened while at the same time it is extended to other categories of crimes, increasing the time of incarceration of those who fall into this category. Immediately after the passing of the bill, mobilizations against it started in many prisons throughout Greece, with the participation of many criminal and political prisoners.

Thanos Chatziangelou actively participated in the above mobilizations and was quickly targeted by the state, culminating in his vindictive transfer to Nigrita prison on 19/12, as happened a few days later with Kostas Dimalexis who was transferred to Trikala prison. The purpose of these transfers is to remove the militants, who have not stopped opposing their oppressors, from the communities of struggle they had created. Thanos’ response was immediate, starting a hunger and thirst strike on 19/12 demanding the disclosure of the reason for his transfer and his return to Korydallos prison. Patras, Greece: ΟΣΕ van delivered to flames in solidarity with Thanos Chatziaggelou

In the evening of 28 to 29 December we delivered to the flames a service van of the ΟΣΕ (Railway Organisation of Greece) in the area of Agia Sophia, in Patras as a small contribution to the struggle of comrade Thanos Chatziaggelou, on hunger and thirst strike since 19/12. We consciously chose this day as it was called a day of nationwide solidarity for Thanos.

Comrade Thanos hold on tight.

The prisoners of the Greek prisons have been fighting their own struggle against the new penal law for about a month now and that is why they are being targeted. We, your comrades, from our side, are acting as we ought at every possible opportunity, raising the flames of solidarity, revenge and attack, hoping that they will reach your unyielding consciences and light up your difficult nights of captivity, even for a while.

WHOEVER FORGETS THE PRISONERS OF WAR FORGETS THE WAR ITSELF

Athens, Greece: Responsibility claim for attack on the offices of New Democracy in Koukaki

In October 2022, within the framework of the zero tolerance doctrine, the new Penitentiary Code is passed, which among other things makes the granting of leave and the conditional release of prisoners even more difficult and essentially restores the C-type prisons with the “maximum security prisons”. In response to this law, on 28 October, mobilisations by prisoners in prisons throughout the country began. The state, in an attempt to intimidate those who are struggling, reacts vindictively, targeting some of them with threats and bullshit in their cells.

Thus, at dawn on Monday 19/12 the kidnapping of the political prisoner for participation in the organization Anarchist Action, Thanos Chatziaggelou, and his transfer from his cell in Korydallos to the prison of Nigrita Serres. In the same way, on 22/12, the transfer of comrade K. Dimalexis to the prison of Trikala was carried out. On the same night of his abduction, comrade Th. Chatziaggelou starts a hunger and thirst strike demanding the disclosure of the reason for his transfer and his return to Korydallos. The comrade’s health is in a very critical condition and he is in danger of suffering kidney failure or cardiac arrest. In an attempt to discredit his struggle, a verbal prosecution proposal is made to force-feed the striker, a practice that constitutes torture and endangers his health. In solidarity, prisoners G. Michaelides, F. Tziotzis, I. Rodopoulos, L. Vougiouklakis and F. Daskalas go on symbolic or non-symbolic hunger strikes, putting their bodies on the mound.

As a minimal sign of solidarity with comrade Th. Chatziaggelou and the rest of the strikers, we chose on 27/12 to attack by breaking the facade and throwing paint at the offices of the New Democracy party in Koukaki, which as a government applies the doctrine of zero tolerance, at least against those who do not enjoy its favour.

Athens, Greece: Action claim by Anarchists for incendiary attack on a Hertz van

On Wednesday night 14/12 we carried out an incendiary attack on a Hertz van which was parked in the area of Exarcheia.

This company, known for its investments on the one hand and as an important cog in the capitalist world on the other, is a political opponent for us.

The area of Exarcheia, and not only, is not safe for these vehicles and everything connected with this world. Exarcheia was, is and will be an area that gave birth to and still nurtures political consciousnesses that dream of the destruction of this world.

This attack was a reflexive move in response to the events of the last few days; the arrests of the December 6 march, the arrests of the march for Kostas Fragoulis, the blockade of our comrades in law; the days of Alexis and the blood that never ceases to seek revenge, when fourteen Decembers later the State and its armed trash arm, shoot and kill.

The attack is dedicated to the memory of Kostas Fragoulis, killed by a cop’s bullet.
