While tourists stroll along the shiny new harbor dock, houses have been cleared and the exploited and poor pushed to the margins of the city. Neighborhoods have been buried under concrete. It is the same dynamic of gentrification and repression that we know from other meetings of the world’s powerful.

The tradition of colonization manifests itself through the exploitation of the rainforest, industrial agriculture, mining, and oil production, which destroy indigenous territories. [In Germany’s seventh-largest city, Düsseldorf, located in the North Rhine-Westphalia region, the “Angry Birds Commando” is regularly in the news.

In August 2024, for example, it claimed responsibility for setting fire to railway signal cables in Mettmann, adding to its previous sabotage attacks on rail traffic: one in Düsseldorf in January 2024, and five others in the same city claimed in May 2023. And since the angry birds can also be generous, last September they published a little manual entitled “Setting fire to cables for beginners”, which contains a number of homemade retardant techniques.

But let’s move on to more recent news: on Thursday night, shortly before 6 a.m. on Friday January 24, a fire broke out in a cable shaft near Eller station, a district in the south-east of Düsseldorf, interrupting rail traffic on the city’s most important freight line, as well as passenger line S1 between Düsseldorf and Solingen. This time, while the Angry Birds Commando’s communiqué no. 3 was written in rhyme, the one published the following day on de.indymedia and entitled “Switch off Deutsche Bahn – Communiqué no. 4” is in the form of an Open Letter.

Below is a translation from the German of this text, which develops its own vision of collapse, as a contribution to the ongoing debates within the revolutionary movement. To put this statement from across the Rhine into context, it’s worth rereading the brochure “Switch off! Radical interventions against the destruction of the planet”.

On Friday morning (January 24), we used tried-and-tested methods to take Düsseldorf’s most important freight line out of service for at least 12 hours. For at least 24 hours, its use was only possible with severe restrictions. In addition to the immediate economic damage, we would like to draw your attention to the following appeal. We would also like to apologize to the travelers affected, and hope that at least one or other of the commuters was able to enjoy a day off in this way.

Dear fellow citizen,

We were lied to. We’ve been told that our leaders always act in our best interests. We were told that we lived in the best of societies. That we were the envy of the world. That nowhere had it ever been better. That the answer to every question was “technical progress!” and that the answer to all the problems that ensued was “even more!”. We’re supposed to believe that we can live without whales, beetles, bats, forests and clean water, but that without the state, the economy and the police, we couldn’t survive a week. We’ve been led to believe that Elon Musk and his gang will build us a paradise on Mars and download our consciousness into the cloud, but that a life without smartphones and cars is utopian, that economic change is even impossible.
And we were told that everything would be fine if we did our jobs well, voted, and let the politicians do their jobs.

Let’s look at ourselves: sick, cowardly and lazy, we stare at our screens wondering what went wrong. Under the blows of constant propaganda, too dumb and confused to recognize genocide as such, it’s no wonder they can even sell us natural gas, fighter jets and solar power as sustainable. Cancer, diabetes, bad posture, severe depression and many others are no longer exceptional these days, even among the young. We drag ourselves into minimum-wage jobs where we’re treated like sub-humans. We’re then allowed to do things that don’t really make sense to us. But maybe things will get better with the next vacation. Or the new television. Or retirement. Or simply when the next beer has been drunk. The 3rd issue of the anarcho-nihilist/insurrectionary newspaper “Blessed Is The Flame” has been published. Its pages contain reports of direct actions, claims of responsibility, texts, poems, and news from anarchist prisoners and trials that were published in November and December 2024 in ten different languages across various parts of the world, or were sent to us via email and are being published for the first time. (Some of the texts published for the first time will also be uploaded as standalone posts on our blog, blessed-is-the-flame.espivblogs.net.)

Our goal is not only to break down the linguistic barriers that hinder information, solidarity, and the dissemination of propaganda by the deed on an international level but also to give counter-information a printed form. We believe it is crucial for counter-information to transcend the limits of the digital realm.

In an era of rapid developments, we unfortunately published the 3rd issue a bit later than we had planned, as this is the first time the newspaper is officially published in seven different languages: Greek, English, Spanish, Indonesian, French, Italian, and German. A new post will include links to all these translations, once they are published on the respective counter-information platforms.

We extend our heartfelt thanks to all comrades—both within Greece and abroad—who contribute by translating, offering financial support, and enabling the circulation of this newspaper in different parts of the world. On the night of April 28 to 29, 2024, we carried out an incendiary attack on the Armin Papperger’s property in Hermannsburg, Turnerstr. on the corner of Immenhoop, where an incendiary device was placed on his garden shed. Papperger is CEO of Rheinmetall, one of the big players in the German armaments industry.

Papperger feels at home here in the Südheide. Surrounded by military training areas and not far from the GÜZ combat training center in the Altmark. The Rheinmetall plant in Unterlüß is only a stone’s throw away. This is where thousands of forced laborers who worked for the German war economy at the Rheinmetall-Borsig Rheinmetall-Borsig plant for the German war economy. In 2023 the Group, which has been promoted to the DAX index, increased its turnover to 7.2 billion euros, with a target of 10 billion euros for 2024. Before February 2022 the annual production of artillery shells was 70,000 units, 350,000 in 2023 and 700,000 in 2024. Following the takeover of the Spanish ammunition company Expal, Rheinmetall sees itself as the the world’s largest manufacturer of artillery ammunition. The groundbreaking ceremony for a for a new production facility in Unterlüß was attended by Federal Chancellor Olaf Scholz, the Ukrainian ambassador and Defense Minister Boris Pistorius (“Germany must become fit for war”). The new factory is expected to 200,000 shells a year.

Papperger is one of the arms managers with a particularly high media presence. The days when the armaments industry suffered from its image are over. In March 2024, Vice Chancellor Robert Habeck assured at a meeting of the 20 most important German arms manufacturers: “We need this industry!” Self-confident and offensively, killing machines can now be presented and advertised. And Rheinmetall has other things to offer besides ammunition, of course tanks in particular: the Lynx and Puma infantry fighting vehicles, the Boxer wheeled tank and the Skyranger anti-aircraft tank. For the Leopard Rheinmetall produces the gun barrel. Rheinmetall also stockpiles various old tank types, which have now been sold to Ukraine, complete with ammunition at a hefty profit. But parts production for the US F35 fighter jet is also on offer.

Rheinmetall plans, produces and murders not only on a national framework. The Group employs over 30,000 workers worldwide in 28 countries. A new ammunition production facility is planned in Ukraine and a maintenance plant for tanks is also due to open there in summer 2024. In addition, the production of infantry fighting battle tanks is also planned. There are also plans for an artillery factory and Rheinmetall is developing a completely new type of battle tank. In the USA, Rheinmetall is participating in tenders and is close to winning a 45 billion dollar contract for the successor to the Bradley infantry fighting vehicle. The development of the Russian market is now off the table for the time being. But as recently as 2011, Rheinmetall concluded a contract with the Russian government for the delivery of a training center for the Russian army and saw itself in the role of a pioneer and door opener.

However, the so-called turnaround does not only mean gigantic rearmament armament and new record profits for the arms industry. It also means a reorientation of the entire society towards war. About the Switch Off! attack campaign

A year ago in Europe a campaign of attack against companies and infrastructures that feed the ecological catastrophe around the world, entitled Switch Off! was launched. Large and small actions have positioned themselves in offensive from the concern and need to confront an evident eco-systemic collapse provoked by the global capitalist machinery that destroys everything in its path.

The intention of the campaign is to “attack the system in a sustainable way”, placing direct action in a common context through anonymous communication with each other, inviting to arm themselves with their own means and go on the offensive against the productive infrastructure and with it the property, without falling into false discursive, institutional and/or technological illusions, “making it clear that there can be no green capitalist alternative, nor peace with the existing conditions”.

In a first statement of presentation we can see more precisely what is the background and objective of why to invite the use of the slogan “Switch Off!”:

The certainty that the current system will lead to the collapse of the massively damaged ecosystem has already moved countless people and driven them into resistance. Tens of thousands are taking to the streets against the capitalist machinery’s “business as usual”, people are resisting the destructive large-scale projects en masse, the system’s infrastructure is being blocked and courageous fighters are setting fire to the machines that are robbing them of their livelihoods.

What we need in the struggle against the destruction of nature and the resulting social misery is the common striving for the real revolutionary break and the freedom of all. For an initiative that rejects all compromises and cosmetic corrections of the state and brings about a transformation of our social relations.

Because the destruction of the planet by the neoliberal economic system is inextricably linked to patriarchal thought patterns, racism and colonialism. The initiative for this must necessarily come from below. From the struggles of the marginalized. From the struggles of those who oppose the state’s promise of salvation with a self-organized, solidary coexistence. From the struggles of those who see that there can be no compromise in the fight against the systemic destruction of the biosphere.

We should also be aware that we cannot completely prevent the gradual collapse of a massively damaged ecosystem. Not the loss of biodiversity. Not the depletion of resources. We will not be able to prevent the climate catastrophe, as we are already in the midst of it. Admitting this – without any doomsday pathos – does not paralyze us. On the contrary: it should open up the question for us and our contexts of what our lives and our revolutionary struggles could look like in the future.

We can hardly block and sabotage as radically and uncompromisingly as the climate change caused by capitalism requires. But we should not be discouraged by this. Let us question, sabotage and sustainably attack the infrastructure of capitalism in the fight against exploitation. So that another world becomes possible! Let us cooperate with each other in solidarity so that we can live a dignified life. Let us realize our ideas in the here and now and already within our struggles and actions. We will not be lulled into complacency by the attempts at appeasement by those in power.

Against their technological solutions

The solutions offered by those in power for the now noticeable effects of the ecological crisis are primarily technological. This is obviously also driven by lobbying, but above all it is a strategy to legitimize themselves. The development, control and application of the “technologies of the future”, which are supposed to make growth capitalism “sustainable”, are in the hands of the state, industry and science and are inextricably linked to them. If we are being sold the illusion that climate change can be stopped technologically, then this is based on the belief that those in power only need to take the right steps, the right measures, to save this world.  For one thing, they have absolutely no interest in ending the expansionist capitalism that secures their position of power. And for another, technological reform, with the new dependencies it produces, is also doomed to failure. Examples of this could be e-mobility or technologies for the production of so-called renewable energies. The required raw materials are often procured in the course of neo-colonial environmental exploitation. The transportation of these raw materials and components is in turn highly dependent on fossil fuels. Berlin, Germany: Against environmental destruction, oppression and war – fire for CEMEX concrete plant

Inspired by a series of actions and sabotages against “the world of concrete” in France (2), Belgium and Switzerland, we visited the CEMEX concrete plant on Schleusenufer in Berlin-Kreuzberg in the early hours of December 27 and used fire to stop several concrete mixer trucks and bring the conveyor belt and a technical building to a standstill.

A master among the climate killers

The wasteland of concrete and asphalt continues to spread. In Germany alone, up to 30 hectares of living soil are buried under the most sought-after building material every day. Roads, squares, commercial areas, industrial plants and houses; huge parts of the earth’s surface are already sealed and infrastructure projects such as dams, freeways, bridges, airports etc. consume several billion tons of concrete every year.

All this is not without consequences. Concrete is considered the climate killer par excellence. Almost 10 percent of the carbon dioxide that this system currently blows into the air comes from the cement industry. That is almost three times as much as air traffic. At the same time, concrete production consumes enormous amounts of resources. Sand in particular, which is essential for production, is already in short supply, which is why coastal areas and sometimes entire islands are being dredged worldwide. With devastating effects on the surrounding ecosystems. The increasing sealing of soils also has catastrophic consequences. Urban areas are heating up more and more, while rainwater can no longer seep into the ground. Groundwater reservoirs are not filling up as before, which will lead to water shortages in many places in the long term or has already done so. Drought and aridity are the result of this on the one hand, while flooding and erosion are occurring elsewhere due to increasingly frequent heavy rainfall. More than that, every additional meter of concrete destroys habitats and food sources. Frankfurt, Germany: Switch Off – the system of destruction! Teslas torched

Once again, all kinds of corporations were able to show off their great, shiny cars at this summertime trade show and congratulate each other on their economic successes in their air-conditioned conference rooms, limousines and exhibition halls.

The livelihoods of many are destroyed. These deadly disasters have many causes. The IAA is one of them. We say switch off the system of destruction!

Therefore we torched some new Teslas in Frankfurt tonight. As a salute to the protests in Munich. As one attack among many on the destructive auto industry.

Tesla is one of our most prominent enemies. The company represents like no other the ideology of green capitalism and the ongoing global and colonial destruction. Electric motors are constantly presented as the clean alternative. This is a cynical lie. Like other corporations, Tesla exploits resources worldwide. The raw materials needed for the batteries of electric cars, such as lithium and cobalt, are mined in Latin America or Africa under lousy conditions. For transport and production, fossil fuels are needed despite the great green coating.
All this always happens in connection with the oppression of indigenous communities, whose resistance must be a signal for us to act.

Tesla accepts all this to produce cars that can creep around here in the inner cities. That show every day: There is prosperity. But just not for everyone. Somebody has to build all this shit, the highways through forests, the jails, the palaces of the rich in the formerly green backyards of Berlin’s old buildings, the concrete aisles along the banks of the Spree River.

As we walk through the city, we repeatedly encounter the signs of a handful of companies that want to use them to mark who owns the city. Among them is Züblin, a construction corporation that pours cement on the explosive increase in rents. Züblin has long been active in the business of the capitalist attack on our living spaces, and was already targeted forty years ago for this reason, when construction machinery burned because of its involvement in the construction of Runway West in Frankfurt. During the Nazi regime, Züblin used forced laborers at Frankfurt Airport. Through its connection with Strabag, Züblin has become one of the leading tree killers, see the expansion of the A49 through the Danni or A66 through the Fechenheimer forest.

Naming such actors and sabotaging them unpredictably can be a modest contribution to the long-term wave of action towards revolt.

We set off a firebomb under the Audi of Bremen’s Interior Senator Mäurer near his front door on Weidedamm in Findorff, Bremen on July 19, 2023.

It feels like Mäurer has always been the senator for the interior, but for at least 16 years his job has been the unscrupulous implementation of the murderous European and German refugee regulations in the area of the Hanseatic city of Bremen. He was recently reappointed as the city’s chief manhunter for another four years. During his long tenure, he is responsible for thousands of deportations, arrests and imprisonments with all kinds of consequences for those affected. He has always backed murderous cops, such as the killers of Qosay Sadam Khalef and Mohamed Idrissi.

Mäurer had so-called “danger spots” set up in order to be able to carry out “independent-suspicion checks”. Twice a year, at the conferences of the interior ministers, he and his colleagues sing the chorus: “more weapons, tougher laws, more prisons…”.

This was also the case in June 2023, when shortly after the extreme tightening of EU refugee policy, the conference of interior ministers demanded further powers. 2000 km of border fences, tens of thousands of deaths in the Mediterranean, all this was still not enough for them.

Against left-wing radical subversion, Mäurer relies on observations and house searches. He provided administrative assistance for a year-long observation of the “Querlenker” car pool by federal authorities, which was carried out at great technical expense. During the presentation of the last Bremen report on the protection of the constitution, he speculated that the relative calm among “left-wing extremists” could be deceptive. He could be right.

The ongoing destruction of the earth, climate disasters, drought, water shortages, hunger and wars for the remaining resources, will force millions more people to flee. Military and police authorities of Fortress Europe will fight these people even harder. Also because of this:

With our small fire we also remember two revolutionaries who died last year: Ronald Fritzsch and Rolf Heißler. Both began to organize militantly at the end of the 1960s. Later, they fought as urban guerrillas with the June 2nd Movement and the RAF (Red Army Faction), and after their arrests, many years in jail. We will not forget their energetic commitment to a communist or anarchist future.
