Athens, Greece: Update on the intervention on Kontra channel about the anarchist G. Michailidis

On Tuesday 12/7 and while our companion is on his 52nd day of hunger strike, an intervention by 20 people took place on Kontra channel during a broadcast by A. Yamalis. During the intervention, a banner was put up and parts of the text of the assembly in solidarity with the anarchist hunger striker G. Michailidis were read.

The comrade is now in danger of severe multiple organ failure. After 8.5 years of detention, he demands the obvious. The release to which he has been entitled for 7 months according to their own laws. In order to justify the indefinite hostage-taking of the comrade, the pretext is used that the prisoner “does not meet the essential conditions for release, as there is a risk of committing new offences”.

In addition to the exceptional regime against political prisoners, whi Giannis is fighting with his body barricaded, it also exposes the whole mechanism of cover-up and bias that reflects what their “justice” really is; while our comrade is melting in a miserable cell of the Lamia hospital, to defiantly release “their people”. Lignadis, Hortarias, Filipidis, Korkoneas, Leventis.

We have no illusions. The justice system that has released murderers and rapists in the last few days is classist. We declare in all tones that our anger will drown you. Street justice will not let you exterminate our comrade.

On Monday night 11/7 we attacked the Patras courthouse, painting the facade and breaking its windows, in solidarity with the anarchist comrade Giannis Michailidis who is on hunger strike since 23/5, waging a struggle against state vengeance with his own body as a weapon.

The comrade, having already served about 8.5 years in prison since December 2021, is entitled to his temporary release from prison, something that runs up against the refusals of the competent judges and councils, as in essence, he does not abandon his militant identity, course and dignity, as clearly demanded by the extortionist regime imposed on him.

It is the same justice that is now avenging the comrade but also so many other militants, so many others who are in the excluded and impoverished social strata, all this prison population that is being beaten by the repressive state boot of the law and order doctrine, the new prison and penal regulations.

In the person of the anarchist comrade Giannis Michailidis, the state takes revenge on all those who stand up against the violence and the rottenness of the capitalist authoritarian world, who take a stand for struggle and action. At the same time, every rapist, every fascist, every uniformed murderer, every paramilitary, every golden boy, every politician responsible for scandals and so many others who are the children, the cogs of political and economic power, enjoy either immunity or the favour of justice.

Make no mistake, justice is and will be class-based in the capitalist/extremist world, and every cop killer like Korkoneas and those who tortured Zack/Zackie, every Golden Dawn, every Hortaria*, every Filippidis**, and so on will continue to walk with the state’s backs amply provided for them.

The militant dignity, history and the means of struggle, the ideas for a free world of equality and solidarity, the anti-statist/anti-capitalist struggle is the only way against the murderous nature of this world that spreads poverty, refugeeism, wars, inequality, misery. This is the road that comrade Giannis Michailidis is walking and we stand unwaveringly by his side.

Exarcheia, Athens, Greece: Update from the rally-march against the release of cop Korkoneas who killed Alexis Grigoropoulos on 6th December 2008

On Tuesday 5 July a rally was called against the release of Korkoneas. The meeting was called at 20.00 at the intersection of Messolongiou and Tzavella. The response of the people was quite large, and it was decided to hold a march through the streets of Exarchia. The pulse was strong from start to finish, and slogans were constantly shouted, with the aim of demonstrating that “justice” is clearly class-based: On the one hand, it releases the cop-killer of Alexandros, by decision of the Lamia Court of Appeal, the same court of appeal that on the other hand deprives the anarchist hunger striker from 23/5, Giannis Michailidis, of his freedom. The march moved through the streets of Exarcheia, and ended exactly at the point where it started, namely at the monument of Alexandros.

After the end of the march, people chose to clash with the repressive forces that were positioned in the vicinity of Exarcheia, but also in many places in the neighbourhood. Another extreme form of authoritarianism and indiscriminate repression unfolded in Exarchia by the Greek Police assault battalions. Following the attacks by the riot police and DELTA forces, the repressive forces surrounded Exarcheia, drowned the neighbourhood in chemicals again and stormed the shops in the area, where patrons were having a drink. They began to bully and drag people into the pile. Specifically, in the bar “5 streets”, despite the strong protests and disapproval, all the people were brought to the GADA by MAT and OPKE, while not even the employees of the shop were spared from the “sweeping” operation. A spontaneous solidarity gathering was immediately called outside the GADA, where a large number of people in solidarity were present. The people who were arrested were released a few hours later. Athens, Greece: Incendiary attack of an Alpha Bank branch in Michalakopoulou by ‘Militant Solidarity’

We take responsibility for the placement of 2 powerful incendiary devices on the facade of the bank ALPHA BANK- ABC FACTORS at 48 Michalakopoulou Street, which is located in the same building as AXA Insurance, late on Friday night, July 1. We chose such a central point of the city attempting to send a strong signal of solidarity to Giannis Michailidis who is on hunger strike since 23/5.

In addition, we cannot but comment on the occasion of this action a well orchestrated plan to cover up the solidarity movements in the face of the striker, with the essence of this cover-up being at the very core of Michailidis’ strike. The state administration has kept the strike and many of the actions that accompany it ‘secret’, apparently aiming to de-politicise and end it in terms of defeat and retreat. We stand by the comrade’s side for his release at a time when his health is getting worse by the day. The attack at this moment is a one-way street.

THEIR JUSTICE IS A MISGUIDED DECEPTION

The historical examples of judicial decisions that throw their own children – the whole shipowning dog pack, the ecclesiastical mob, the political establishment and its most prominent straw men – into the mud are numerous. Some do not get the publicity they deserve, others are de-nominated in an attempt to disorientate public opinion and others are simply headlines, infuriating the average person with their neutral texture. Unfortunately, in recent days their judicial time has been very dense and we cannot let it go unattended. All the more so when at the same time the anarchist prisoner Michailidis is fighting at the risk of his own life and claiming the release that – again, according to their own laws – he is entitled to, making his judicial hostage-taking even more challenging. After 8.5 years in prison, after all these arbitrary actions against me, I decided to put an end to my 11 years of suffering, by putting a stop to the practice of pre-trial detention, or the additional punishment of escape through legal loopholes. After 5 more months of pre-trial detention, I start a hunger strike for my release. This choice, with the deep motivation of the much desired freedom, I intend to support it with the same consistency that I have supported my choices so far and for which I am being persecuted.

For 11 years I have experienced state vengeance against choices in line with my values and ideas. The difficult journey, from which I choose to share some blatant vengeful acts of arbitrariness against me, began in the distant 2011, when an arrest warrant was issued against me for the Conspiracy of Cells of Fire case, for which I was eventually acquitted as there was not the slightest connection between me and the charge against me. It was the incrimination of a relationship of solidarity with wanted anarchists that put me in their place when they were arrested.

After 2 years of being on the run, I too am now walking through the heavy doors of prison, as the existence of a warrant that entails a decade of incarceration has led to certain choices and consequent mistakes. The comrades who were arrested at the time in the bank robbery in Velvento, Kozani, were tortured by the police, which is common, and then the Ministry of Public Order published photos of our swollen faces, provoking a public reaction. Of course, no police officer was accused of this by the blind Greek justice system. After more than 60 days of hunger strike, today 25 July, the Judicial Council of Lamia is meeting once again to request his release. After the previous rejections of his request, comrade Giannis Michailidis is now in immediate danger of serious permanent damage to his health. We have no illusions about civil justice and its role. STRUGGLE FOR THE RELEASE OF POLITICAL PRISONERS

Anarchist prisoner Giannis Michailidis has been imprisoned for more than 8 and a half years in the cells of democracy and 3 years in fugitive status in two different periods. His consistent commitment to the anarchist struggle, his unrepentant stance in front of the executioners of bourgeois justice, his practical questioning of the world of power and bourgeois legitimacy has put him in the crosshairs of the repressive and judicial mechanisms for years.

Giannis was prosecuted on the basis of a trumped-up charge of the mass revolt of the prisoners of Korydallos prison against the violent seizure of the then hunger-striking anarchist prisoner Dinos Giagtzoglou.

A persecution that targeted, without any evidence beyond solidarity texts, all the political prisoners of that period in order to put them in a new regime of hostage-taking, discontinued leaves, transfer from rural prisons, etc. Faced with the risk of prolonging his imprisonment and being transferred from the rural prisons where he was being held Giannis chose freedom, making an escape that allowed him to walk the paths of freedom for which he has fought consistently and at great cost throughout his life.
