Contributions from Jasul, Adit and Eat for the solidarity infonight in Bristol and London, UK, about the repression after the uprising across the Indonesian archipelago. From Jasul and Adit.

Hello comrades, warm greetings from Bandung to Bristol.

We introduce ourselves as prisoners from what is known as the “Chaos Star.” This correspondence carries fragments of memory from years marked by chaos, surveillance, and arrests. We send this message from behind the bars of a prison in—so called—Indonesia. We are currently serving sentences related to the August 2025 unrest, the pipe bomb attack on a police post in December 2024, and the destruction of Bank Hana during the anti–TNI Bill protests in March and May Day 2025.

The unrest last August became the largest manhunt against activists and anarchists since 1998. This year, 703 political prisoners—although we reject that label—are still undergoing legal processes or are detained. We prefer to be called Anarchist Prisoners rather than Political Prisoners. This is an issue we want to critique. The label “political prisoner” places us within certain relations of power: we are framed as symbols of resistance, victims or survivors of a regime, or tools for legitimizing particular political agendas. Instead, we are Anarchist Prisoners. We reject the very foundation of politics itself. Our emphasis is on the autonomy of the subject and individual disobedience, without serving any project or representation tied to political agendas. By using the label Anarchist Prisoners, we assert a distance from the language of power and maintain a position outside the political field that seeks to regulate, define, and justify everything. Indonesia: Paramilitaries attempt to murder comrade Andrie Yunus – Statement from the Persaudaraan Pekerja Anarko-Sindikalis (PPAS-IWA)

Posted on 2026/03/20 - 2026/03/20 by darknights

Persaudaraan Pekerja Anarko-Sindikalis, part of the International Workers’ Association (PPAS-IWA), strongly condemns the attempted murder of Andrie Yunus, a human rights activist and Deputy Coordinator of the Commission for Missing Persons and Victims of Violence (KontraS). On the night of 12 March 2026, Andrie Yunus was attacked with acid, resulting in burns covering 24% of his body—including his eyes and face especially the right side, chest, and both hands. This act cannot be dismissed as an accident alone, as it was carried out in an organized and planned manner; targeting vital body parts; using tools that are not easily obtained and crucially: and most importantly, preceded by terror and stalking since the previous days.

Andrie Yunus is a worker who has dedicated his life to public interest advocacy and defending victims of human rights violations and state violence who lack access to legal services. Throughout this work, he has consistently called out the State—whose operations are rife with violence, exploitation, corrupt practices, and subservience to the interests of capitalists.

The acid attack on Andrie Yunus occurred immediately after he recorded a podcast on remilitarization and the judicial review of the TNI (Indonesian National Armed Forces) Law. Approximately one year prior, he had forced his way into a meeting room at a luxury hotel where political elites were preparing to pass the same TNI Law—legislation that was later opposed by many groups for weakening the position of civilians in the limited job market. Surabaya, Indonesia: Riot outside East Java government building against the new Military law

Posted on 2025/03/28 - 2025/03/28 by darknights

A violent clash broke out Monday in the Indonesian metropolis of Surabaya between police and demonstrators protesting against the country’s newly passed military law.

Around 1,000 students and activists dressed in black participated in the protest in front of an East Java government building.

Holding posters that said “Reject the Military Law”, and “The Military Should Return to the Barracks”, protesters hurled rocks, sticks, and Molotov cocktails towards the police guarding the demonstration.

The revision to the armed forces law, pushed mainly by President Prabowo Subianto’s coalition, was aimed at expanding the military’s role beyond defence in a country long influenced by its powerful armed forces especially under the brutal military dictatorship of Suharto called the “New Order” who were avowedly anti-communist and anti-anarchist. Large-scale killings and civil unrest primarily targeting members and supposed sympathizers of the Communist Party of Indonesia (PKI) were carried out in Indonesia from 1965 to 1966. Other affected groups included alleged communist sympathisers, Gerwani women, trade unionists, ethnic Javanese Abangan, ethnic Chinese, atheists, so-called “unbelievers”, and alleged leftists in general. The dictatorship eventually fell in the May 1998 Indonesia riots triggered by corruption, economic problems, including food shortages, mass unemployment, increasing repression, genocide in East Timor and following the 1997 Asian financial crisis.

Bandung, West Java, Indonesia: “Reject the National Army law”, “No Rules, Just Chaos”, and “Burn World Bank” wrote by a group of informal affinity

Posted on 2025/03/22 by darknights

We are responsible for the burning of Two Hana Bank ATM machines, the Hana Bank office building, a capitalist-owned advertising videotron, and a motor vehicle belonging to the Indonesian National Army. The arson occurred after a space occupation carried out by demonstrators in the aftermath of a demonstration against the passage of the Indonesian National Army Law (TNI law), the arson occurred in Bandung, West Java on Friday night 21/03/2025.

The action carried out by the demonstrators in front of the Regional House of Representatives (DPRD) was not ignored at all by anti-riot police, despite the throwing of molotov cocktails, propane, stones and firecrackers into the veranda of the building. Until in the end, we chose direct action by burning at several points above.

We are completely beyond the authority of the language of the state and capitalism, we are irrationality, we are a form of the illogicality of the authority of the language itself. We are one of the informal organizations of the end of the world who do not believe in the coming of enlightenment for tomorrow, because for us the future is a new form of suffering. We are a fire that devours entire city buildings at night. We do not believe in the revolution of the left and other social anarchists. We are writers and poets, insurrection is poetry, poetry is insurrection.

Death to The State!
Death to The National Army!
Death to an Entire Civilization!
Burn The World Bank!
Long Live The Conspiracy of Cells of Fire!
Long Live The Free Association of Autonomous Fire!
Long Live FAI/IRF Long Live Anarchy!
