Athens, Greece: A brief review of the events of the last days in Exarcheia

Posted on 2022/01/19 - 2022/01/19 by darknights

We raise this update as we have noticed that in the mainstream media and the wider media, the events of the last few days, as well as the solidarity march for the Biologio steki, completely silence the fact that Exarcheia was, is and will be a neighbourhood that fights against gentrification and repression. We want to make it clear that these events are mass actions spontaneously flanked by people and prove that no matter how much Mitsotakis and his whole family want to, Exarcheia will not submit to their vices.

Wednesday 12/01/22

Since this morning, bulldozers and contractor crews arrive in Messolonghiou and proceed to excavate the pavement in order to electrify the new building where a luxury apartment block is being erected. After the work is temporarily halted due to complaints from residents, police forces arrive at the site. In the evening of the same day, a banner is displayed against the gentrification of Exarchia and people cover the holes that the bulldozers have made in the pedestrian street with earth. Athens, Greece: Tearing up Messolonghiou for luxury apartments + Gathering & Intervention against the destruction of Messolonghiou

Posted on 2022/01/19 - 2022/01/19 by darknights

This morning a bulldozer was tearing up the pedestrian street of Messolonghiou for the electrification of a building of luxury apartments.

Some people from the neighborhood approached the workers and asked them the reason for the works. The contractor said it was ΔΕΗ (electric company) works to supply electricity to the building intended for luxury apartments. When asked for the contractor’s documents, he refused them as he also denied the connection of the works with the building, while at the same time they were going in and out of the building.

The individuals managed to stop the works and the contractor left, but Messolonghi remains a wreck. 15 minutes later 6 DRASI and DELTA motorcycles arrived at the site and searched for the people.

Exarcheia is a neighbourhood under threat of gentrification. Residents are being displaced, squats are being vacated, rents are going up. This building in Messolonghiou, intended for luxury housing for the rich and tourists, is another example of the march of capital. Every day we see the neighbourhood being changed and transformed into a playground for big investors. At the same time the square and the turnpike are under constant threat. Athens, Greece: Molotov attack on motorcycle cops

Posted on 2022/01/19 - 2022/01/19 by darknights

04/01/22

The reality of the state, capital and patriarchy is misery and death. It is imposed as normality through the rhetoric and propaganda of the rulers, an impoverishment that is condensed into a lifetime of work in suffocating spaces and times, with unpaid overtime, counter shifts, ridiculous wages and high cost of living. The unhealthy social-working environment for the physical and mental condition of the underprivileged. The patriarchal violence that perpetuates the nightmare of the Greek family and protects the gendered relations of power-openness-oppression. To the detention camps for immigrants, to the imprisonment of those who resist and those who somehow threaten the national-state sovereignty and its political-economic interests. Still, anyone who is left over from the cycle of perpetuating the capitalist market is marginalized, paranormalized, and when they don’t comply they are shot with .38 bullets. Murders christened workplace accidents, murders at the border for the national ideal, murders of inmates for lack of medical care, femicides christened family tragedies, murders of individuals for deviating from gender norms, murders to preserve the integrity of “Sacred Property”, millions of murders of non-human animals on the altar of capital… And we who, in spite of the times, will not get used to death.

The December 2008 uprising has left in our consciences a signal of militant resistance of the oppressed. It did not come out of nowhere. It was the explosion that followed after the conflicts and struggles of the previous years. Today, in the face of repressive mechanisms that are constantly being technologically equipped and reinforced by the hiring of cops, and listening to the legacy of the global uprisings of the past, we insist that faith and consistency in struggle are necessary to create cracks in the face of domination. Our organization and will to go on the counterattack illuminates the weak points of the opponents, terrifies the state and its vassals, and gives strength to those fighting for freedom.

The Greek state since its foundation has included in its territory minorities that do not identify with its national characteristics and is forcibly trying to integrate them. Several have succumbed, some have been expelled, others have been exterminated and others are still fighting for the autonomy of their communities. Roma communities are the target of racist rhetoric that maps them as dangerous to the national body. From the media’s promotion of them as uncivilized and criminals, the endorsement of their physical extermination by trashy cops, the judicial acquittal of the killers and the silence – or consent – of the householders, the state’s strategy of control and assimilation is being implemented. On 22/10/21 the 18-year-old Roma Nikos Sampanis attempts to escape from a chase by a group of DIAS – and under the accusation that he was committing a crime – is murdered in cold blood by 7 determined uniformed bastards. In their form is personified what we hated most. And against them, they have not only what they aim at: for all those murdered by state, capital and patriarchy we will avenge. On Wednesday 8/12 at midnight, we set up a trap on Katehaki Street for passing DIAS motorbikes. We had ensured the safety of ourselves and other passing vehicles. Through our own fault the motorbike we targeted overtook the burning molotovs and no cop injury was caused. However, the uniformed bastards who were spared for seconds got a clear message by looking fearfully at the fire that broke out a few metres behind them. Ahead of them, they will meet the new attacks and the struggles that will continue.

Athens, Greece: Responsibility claim for burning of cop motorbike

Posted on 2022/01/19 by darknights

Our comrade Alexis, December belongs to you.

That’s why we, like rabid wolves, at dawn on December 8th, in Kefalas Street in Poligono, Athens, destroyed the motorbike of a well-known family of cops, giving a message to all state servants that we know what time they finish their service and where they are coming home from.

For Vassilis Magos, Nikos Sampanis, Alexis Grigoropoulos.

The flag looks nice burnt!

Athens, Greece: Updates news about Anarchist prisoners Marios Seisidis and Charis Mantzouridis

Posted on 2022/01/11 by darknights

After his transfer to the Korydallos Prisoner Psychiatric Hospital on 24/12 and resulting negative in a rapid test conducted for preventive reasons, comrade Charis Mantzouridis was placed in “quarantine” in the only space they have, in the disciplinary isolation infrastructure.

We talked about this space in the previous update, when the comrade was transferred there. It is a cell with a broken window, freezing, with mattresses ripped open, with blood and excrement everywhere, with food discarded by everyone, with prisoners constantly being added to the same place, abolishing even the supposed concept of quarantine. As we said at the time, the situation in this place is but a small example of the overall barbaric condition of keeping all prisoners in prison and the minimal measures taken to protect them from the pandemic.

On 30 December, after six days of his stay there, a rapid test was carried out again and he tested positive for the virus, and since then he has remained in isolation without the possibility of communication. It has been 17 days since the comrade has been in the prison within the prison, without medical supervision and without his relatives knowing anything about his health, both physical due to covid and mental.

Immediate release of comrade Charis  Mantzouridis!

Athens, Greece: Call for participation in the defense of the Squatted Community of Prosfygika on Alexandras Avenue (EN, TUR, ES, IT, DE, FR)

Posted on 2021/12/20 - 2022/01/30 by darknights

Hello comrades,

We address this call to collectives and individuals from all around the world to join the combative defense of PROSFYGIKA against the imminent repression. The attempted evacuation of our neighborhood must be turned into a central event of resistance and a victory against political power and the gentrification of our neighborhoods in the metropolis.

WHAT WE INVITE YOU TO DEFEND:

The building complex of Prosfygika was built in 1933 for the refugees coming from Asia minor.

In the conditions of the time, a vibrant working class neighbourhood with communal characteristics emerged. Today,it is one of the biggest building complexes in the center of Athens, which is still not gentrified and exploited by big investors or the state. It is a place of strategic significance, since it is located between the two ‘pillars’ of authority – the Supreme Court on one hand and the Police Headquarters on the other.

Within this socio-spatial frame, some militants, who were already living in the neighborhood as squatters, decided to organize. In 2010 they initiated the Community of Squatted Prosfygika, having as its central decision-making political organ the Assembly of Squatted Prosfygika (SY.KA.PRO.). A communal body for everyday life and political struggle. Athens, Greece: Taking responsibility for the arson of the vehicle of Michaloliakos – Zaroulia* by Proletarian Cell Dimitris Dagklis

Posted on 2021/12/14 - 2021/12/14 by darknights

The capitalist management of the pandemic reveals in the most blatant way how barbaric and murderous the capitalist system is. A system that destroys everything in its path in the name of supposed growth. It destroys and pollutes the natural environment, the primary cause of pandemics.

It condemns entire peoples and the lower social strata to poverty, sets up hundreds of deaths from COVID 19 around the world, absence of hospitals, vaccines in African countries and other protective measures.

In Greece, and while we are in the fourth wave of the pandemic, the government continues to methodically undermine the already degraded  ΕΣΥ (Εθνικό Σύστημα Υγείας, National Healthcare Service) for the sole purpose of privatising it. Moreover, a current strengthening of the ΕΣΥ will in future be an obstacle to the further exploitation of health care as a field of profit for private capital.

The law on protests, the labour and environmental bill, the new system of admission to higher education, the teacher evaluation, the university police, the reorganisation of basic goods are all coming to secure a ‘new’ reality for thousands of workers and beyond.

In this condition of an all-out attack on the popular strata, the fascists are also making their reappearance. Various far-right groups, sometimes more vigorously and sometimes not, are trying to fill the gap left by X.A.  (Χρυσή Αυγή, Golden Dawn, Neo-Nazi Party) It was to be expected that this would happen. On the one hand, because fascism will exist as long as there is poverty and exploitation (acting as a disorienting factor in the struggle against the state and capital) and on the other hand, because such paramilitary groups function as a repressive complement to the official state apparatus. Athens, Greece : Attack against Municipal Police Station in Pagkrati area

Posted on 2021/12/08 by darknights

We live in a period where it is not so easy to make demonstrations without being attacked by the cops. The reason is not to close the streets for the flow of commercial interests but it is also to spread fear in the society, the breaking of the solidarity that might grow out of collective moments of struggle and make us to helpless targets of their thirst of power. It does not matter the reason of the demonstration. It could be teachers, firefighters, anarchists. We live in a period where it could be dangerous to make a demonstration. Because we are few and the squads of the uniformed death regime are many.

In Exarchia the constant attacks on MAT stopped when we lost Polytechnio and Delta came back to the streets. The city of Athens seems full of cops and cameras. But our desire to watch the democratic facade breaking down is still alive.

In the end of another murderous year, where we saw a lot of executions of migrants in the borders, at the sea and the land, executions in the streets from the police, death in prisons, death from Covid because the regime prefers to give all the money to buy new toys for the uniformed forces, we decided to strike back with the few means that we own.

In the morning of 3rd December we broke with stones the facade of the Municipal Police in Pagkrati, Vinkelman Street. We hope the piece of trash inside to felt a little bit of the fear, which the same ones, spread everywhere. One of the reasons we chose the municipal police is a murder. On February 1st, 2013, immigrant street vendors in the neighbourhood of Thissio got chased off by the Athens municipal police. They trapped one of them in a corner, above the train rails. When the cops attempted to steal the worker’s merchandise, Babakar Ndiaye (38 years old from Senegal) fell onto the subway tracks from 7 meters high and died instantly. We will not forget and we will not forgive. We want to remember Babakar Ndiaye alive and we will not let his murderers forget what they did to him. Municipal police can also kill, and to give them weapons is a matter of time like in all the countries.

The new law on molotovs didn’t make us afraid because anyway using molotov was a felony and when we have them, we will use them or police will not find them. We never carried molotovs and thinking that is a high charged crime.

The action we did wants to give a message. Beyond molotovs and guns you can find more easy means to attack to easy targets. Stones, in the street and towards targets are very good if you don’t let your DNA on them. You don’t have to carry them, you don’t have to be very close to the target and plus to this, some time they create more damage to cops and materials than molotovs do. So, let’s act as we can and use the means accordingly and as upgraded as possible but without every time to lose the chance for action. The city is big and targets are everywhere.

Glasgow, Scotland: Banner Drop at the Greek Consulate for the 13 years since the state murder of anarchist Alexis Grigoropoulos in Greece EN,Gàidhlig,GR

[GLASGOW] Banner Drop at the Greek Consulate for the 13 years since the state murder of anarchist Alexis Grigoropoulos.

‘A bullet in the heart of Alexandros to close the circle of the statist machine’s omnipotence. A bloodstain on the Messolonghiou pedestrian street to open the circle of rebellion that wrecked the legal order and sowed chaos and anarchy in all cities throughout Greece.’

– Nikos Romanos, Requiem for a Journey of No Return.

As of today, 6/12/2021, it has been 13 years since the Greek state murdered the anarchist Alexis Grigoropoulos. Alexis was shot by two cops, E. Korkoneas and V. Saraliotis, in the neighbourhood of Exarcheia, following minor clashes with the police. As soon as the news of Alexis’s murder broke, a spontaneous insurrection began. Protests, riots, expropriations and occupations of public buildings were but some of the collective expressions of rage. Despite the attempts of state and capital to depoliticise the murder, we must not forget that Alexis was killed because of his political beliefs – he challenged in practice the authority of the police and, by extension, that of the state. This is the violence faced every day by those whose existence the state deems undesirable, those who are a threat to their social order.

13 years later, the spirit of the December revolt is alive in the resistance of the Anarchist/Anti-Authoritarian movement. As anarchists, we stand in solidarity with all insurrections against the state apparatus worldwide, present and future. Our struggles take place in our streets and neighbourhoods, in our workplaces, schools and universities. We will reclaim our space and our lives.

FROM ATHENS TO SCOTLAND, INSURRECTIONS ARE NOT A UTOPIA.

Athens, Greece: Taking responsibility for the attack on the Acropolis police station

Posted on 2021/12/05 by darknights

Source: athens.indymedia. Translated by act for freedom now!

On Saturday 27 November we attacked the Acropolis police station with molotov cocktails. At the time of the attack the guard cop and 4 undercover cops sitting in front of the police station, at the sound of the cry “murderers” scampered and hid in the building while we set fire to the guard post and the entrance of the police station.

We haven’t said the last word yet, these are Alexi’s days.

It is not remembrance, or melancholy nostalgia. It is the very idea of rebellion against our oppressors and exploiters. It is the fiery flame of yesterday that drives the gestures of resistance of today.

It is not a desire for repetition, but the very reality of exploitation, death politics, totalitarian control, segregation and total state management of the pandemic.

It is the intensity of oppression, of the suffocating present that arms us with the will, the desire, the strength to attack the state apparatus. It is the December 2008 uprising that fills us with the faith that the situation can and must change, that those from below can come back to the forefront by claiming their own lives.

The murder of comrade Alexandros Grigoropoulos on December 6, 2008 by the cops Korkoneas and Saraliotis sparked an uprising in the whole of Greece. Large sections of society appropriated the slogans, the proclamations and the practices of the anarchist space and took to the streets against everything that oppresses and exploits us.
