Bristol, UK: Transcript of a talk by anarchist comrade Toby Shone at BASE for International Week of Solidarity with Anarchist Prisoners, August 2025
This is the rough transcript of Toby‘s talk at the solidarity event for anarchist prisoners on August 31st, 2025, at BASE social centre in Easton, Bristol, UK.
Hi everyone
Welcome to BASE social centre, I’m Toby Shone, I’m an anarchist ex-prisoner from the Forest of Dean. I was in the Operation Adream case, which was a co-ordinated international police operation which involved British, Dutch and German police, at least, we could say. I spent three years in various prisons in UK, mostly under 23 hour lockdown in conditions of solitary confinement. I also had 9 months in a secure bail hostel under anti-terrorist restrictions, and 3 months of bail conditions where I had to sign every day at a police station in the Forest.
I want to thank BASE for giving me this opportunity to talk. I’m not going to talk at length. And I want to properly thank all the comrades in Bristol who supported me during my imprisonment. The last time I was here for the International Week of Solidarity event, which was in 2023, I was out on license. As you probably know, the Counter-Terror Police South West had a surveillance team outside, and this event was a major reason cited by the National Security Division for my subsequent abduction back to prison. I have the surveillance report here from the police, so you can see the material on BASE, see the angle where the police took the surveillance photograph from, and see how the Counter-Terror Police South-West regard us. So it gives me great pleasure to be here with you all, to remember our prisoners and write them letters, to eat and exchange with everyone. It has a lot of meaning for me to be here and speak to you. Post-August Mass Action Manhunt in Surakarta (Solo): Arrest of Comrades Riky and Kipli a.k.a Blazevomit – Indonesia
As the authoritarian regime of Prabowo and Gibran tightens its grip on Indonesia in 2025, dissent has erupted across the nation. What began as a mass wave of protests against corruption, oppression, and systemic violence has turned into an unrelenting campaign of state-sponsored repression. In the streets, solidarity movements bloomed in the wake of a tragic event: the brutal killing of Affan, an online motorcycle driver run over by a Brimob [Mobile Brigade Corps- Special operations, paramilitary, and tactical unit of the Indonesian National Police] armored vehicle during a protest in Jakarta. This act of violence ignited an even greater fire of resistance, yet it also marked the beginning of a systematic crackdown on comrades, journalists, and anyone challenging the regime.
Two comrades from Solo, Rizky Ardiansyah, known as Riky, and Muhammad Rafli Andriansyah, or Kipli, were among the first to fall victim to the regime’s wave of arrests. The two were arrested in November for their involvement in a mass action in August at the Brimob Headquarters, Battalion C Pelopor, Manahan, Solo. They were charged with a range of serious offenses, including alleged property destruction and involvement in creating incendiary devices such as Molotov cocktails, accusations that were heavily inflated and fueled by visual evidence obtained by the police.
But the real story here is not just about the charges. They are a smokescreen, a tool used by the state to criminalize dissent and stifle the growing resistance. Both Riky and Kipli now face trial in Surakarta, with their hearings set for January 2026, but their plight is a reflection of a much larger reality: the state’s war against anyone who dares to oppose it. Letter from some imprisoned comrades from the ‘Chaos Star’ case (Indonesia)
Palang Hitam/ABC: This letter is by a section of the Chaos Star defendants in the West Java Paramilitary police compound. The reference in the signature to FAAF, is the Free Association of Autonomous Fires. Fire To The Prisons!
Greetings to friends and to enemies alike,
Even now, the structures of power—ancient, rigid, and towering—continue to stand. Yet last August, people cracked the illusion of their invincibility. They showed that nothing is beyond transformation when our desires converge into a force capable of opening pathways toward the worlds we long to create.
We are individualists because we refuse the ideological fantasies of withered anarchists who preach like missionaries of a fading religion.
We are individualists because we believe in an anarchy of imagination—creative, diverse, unbound.
We are individualists who hold that nihilism is a concrete passage toward self-actualization, beyond the messianic dead-ends of dividing reality into “good” and “evil,” knowing full well the complexity of life cannot be squeezed into the decaying relics of Judeo-Christian doctrine—relics that should be buried like the myths of prophets and their fading gods.
We are individualists because we believe in the absolute autonomy of each person to shape the life they desire—yet we also believe in cooperation, in the equality of individuals who pursue their desires together. Our anti-social anarchy is an active refusal of the old values reproduced endlessly in everyday life.
At the same time we are bewildered, amused, and entertained by the foolish accusations hurled by some social anarchists who label us “purists” as if our rejection of organization were born of loyalty to some classical anarchist canon—an ideology drenched in Eurocentrism, streaked with the colonial residue of Western civilization, and infused with the Enlightenment’s humanism, the very root of authoritarian democracy. We reject all ideologies. The rebels of Paris Commune in 1871, the revolutionaries of Spain in 1936, the dreamers of Paris in 1968, and those of August 2025—all remind us of brief lives that were truly worth living beyond any ideologies.
From behind these walls and bars, we send a sharp wind toward every wild soul, reminding them that they are not alone against the repulsive realities engineered by the powerful.
The compass of anarchy draws us together at the threshold between free will and the will to power. We belong to no formal anarchist organization (spare us).
We are not part of impotent collectives like the PRISONERS’ UNION, (Serikat Tahanan) nor of any group that claims us for their own—much less the so-called anarchist movement with its church-like rigidity and archaic morality.
Toward the fusion of social and individual anarchy, and toward the negation of every radical movement that mirrors—or even surpasses—the mental and physical prisons of the state and capitalism!
This is an open letter to all anarchist of praxis. Fuck all idols, burn all radical bibles, and attack the enemy on all fronts.

Projekt Feniks – Nieformalna Federacja Anarchistyczna (FAI)
Video: Conspiracy of Cells of Fire – Phoenix Project – An account of the FAI/IRF Project ‘Phoenix’ (Black International) 2015

English subtitled version of the film giving the account of the early part of the Phoenix Project, international project of sabotage and attack with over a dozen hits in a variety of different countries.
Dedicated to Alfredo Cospito and Nicola Gai, Olga Cell FAI/IRF, who took responsibility for the laming of CEO Roberto Adinolfi of Ansaldo Nucleare.
“We are here, where everything starts now.”
The Project of ‘Phoenix’ is the unfolding of a hidden map marking one of the routes to the Atlantis of practical theory. An unknown and lost continent that exists beyond the edges of the burning cities of the interzone. Created through action, dialogue and ideas and organised informally with anarchic principles of permanent autonomous attack, revolutionary solidarity and internationalism. A sequence of attacks by different radical direct action groups around the world, breaking the silence of isolation and striking back again against the prison societies of the techno-industrial system.
The imprisoned members of CCF are charged with instigation for the attacks, Spyros Mandylas and Andreas Tsavdaridis were arrested and charged for act #4 in the project, sending a parcel-bomb to the former commander of the anti-terrorist agency, Dimitris Xorianopoulos, whilst Christos Rodopoulos is reportedly accused of the mailing of the parcel bomb to Dimitris Mokkas, chief prosecutor in the CCF case, as act #6.
The Phoenix project is now renewed through the 2015 attacks in Chile, Czech Republic and Greece, with the comrades within the territory of Czech Republic initiating the campaign “Let’s destroy repression“. The story of the Phoenix continues to be written…

Against the repression against anarchists in Indonesia
In the past few years we have seen a massive crackdown on anarchist individuals and cells by the State. Though in some cases it was arbitrary arrests of individuals, the recent state-sponsored studies on anarchist activity in Indonesia has been brought to our attention.
It is because of these reasons and also to secure our comrades that are already targeted by the State that we need better infrastructure of resistance in this era of social control and surveillance. The necessity of this proposed solidarity infrastructure is part of our continual revolt against the state and its apparatus. We are not paranoid or overwhelmed by fear, in fact the opposite, we want to strike harder than before and we want to get better at storming the heavens. Call for revolutionary solidarity with anarchist comrades in Indonesia
Again the repressive international security state moves against the anarchist tendencies who fight to establish and maintain their existence as a threat to the system. The anarchists in Indonesia who are principled enough to put their words into actions are our comrades in struggle. In an increased atmosphere of anti-anarchist repression against the movement in Indonesia, alongside the criminalization of the Anarchist Black Cross group there, we call for international solidarity and closer contact for mutual aid and common projects, to aid anarchists under repression and help support anarchist infrastructures.
In April 2022, Muh Taufiqrrohman, a security consultant writing for Stratsea, published a short analytic article as part of calls for repression of the anarchist movement in Indonesia. The language of this security ‘expert’ is clearly drawn from the European ‘anti-extremist’ playbook. Since this analysis was no idle threat from Stratsea and the Indonesian regime, we can learn from, and analyze the strategy of European and American security companies to export repressive techniques to new countries for adoption of common approaches at a local level. Similar repressive analysis and implementation can be found as practiced in other countries and we can examine their proposals, understand them and act against them.
For a black international.
