GRECIA: COMUNICADO DE NIKOS MAZIOTIS – LXS REVOLUCIONARIXS NO SE «CORRIGEN» NI « SE MEJORAN MORALMENTE»

Si dijera lo contrario, empezaría a preguntarme si me he equivocado y he violado mis principios y valores morales.

Greece: Nikos Maziotis – On the Latest Rejection of My Parole

Posted on 2024/07/09 by darknights

For the 5th time, the Lamia Criminal Court has recently rejected my request for conditional release despite the 3rd consecutive positive prosecution. During the last 2.5 years since I have reached the law of suspension by law, Lamia’s judicial councils, including the Lamia Council I had once appealed, have rejected a total of 6 times my request for conditional release. It is now very likely that I will be one of the few prisoners nationwide – if not the only one – with a temporary prison sentence with the maximum sentence of 20 years under the 2019 Presidential Code that will get the entire sentence without parole. And I will probably be the only one of dozens of political (anarchist and other) prisoners who have spent the last 20 years in prison with a sentence of temporary imprisonment, who is exempt from parole. Of course, the reasons for rejection are still political-opinional: that I refuse to recognize as criminal the acts for which I have been convicted, namely the action of the Revolutionary Struggle, as mentioned in the recent rejection decree, but also the precedent of September 2023.

The issue of repentance for the political opponents of the political-economic regime has now been historically established as a necessary criterion and condition for the granting of conditional release, thus continuing the historical tradition of the Greek state in other eras, from the years of the Metaxas dictatorship, the years of the civil war and the post-civil war period to the junta of the colonels.

Of course, the Council of Misdemeanors of Lamia has proven that it has double standards in these cases, as proved by the case of the recent – albeit temporary – release of the “führer” of the neo-Nazi organization Golden Dawn. In a country and a place where many do not have a short historical memory as the state authorities want and hope, the Lamia Misdemeanour Council was irreparably exposed socially and this is not negated by the fact that the release order was overturned by an appellate prosecutor after government-political intervention.

Once again, the historical tradition of the Greek state is confirmed and the political sympathies of several state bodies are not hidden. Just as the collaborators after 1945, the Security Battalions, the Chites, the ancestors of Golden Dawn, were treated favorably by the post-occupation state, few of them were tried and even fewer remained in prison, so today we see their descendants receiving the same favorable treatment from the current state and their “justice”. Of the 28 convicted of the neo-Nazi organization after the murder of Pavlos Fyssas, 21 are already free, while the rest do not have significant time left in detention. After all, they are “their own children”. It was nothing but a parastatal apparatus, i.e. an offshoot of the state apparatus itself, which had been operating for years, since the 1990s, with the tolerance of the police, and did the “dirty” work of the state. That is, anti-immigrant pogroms and racist attacks, beatings, stabbings, assistance of riot police in clashes with anarchists posing as “indignant” citizens, attacks on hangouts, occupations of the anarchist/anti-authoritarian space. Traditionally, the Greek state has always treated the parastatals with the glove, such as these fascists, nostalgics for the colonels’ junta who in 1978 carried out indiscriminate bombings at the Rex and Elli cinemas because they screened films that were not politically correct according to them, with content that was not “nationalist”. It is no coincidence that among them was the later “führer” of Golden Dawn. The same was done to the parastatal assassins – members of ONED-ND – of Professor Nikos Tebonera in January 1991 who had been ordered to break in a “dynamic” way the mathematical occupations of that period. Greece: A few words about the ‘witch hunt’ of the Counterterrorism by anarchist comrade Fotis Tziotizis

Posted on 2024/03/05 - 2024/03/05 by darknights

I no longer cease to be amazed and wonder what the police and journalists come up with for cases that disrupt their peace. I have seen and read a lot these days about the alleged major operation of the DAEEV (Directorate for Dealing with Special Violent Crimes ΔΑΕΕΒ, Anti Terrorist) and the dismantling of a dangerous terrorist organization.

Vile absurdities were uttered, scenarios of science fiction. They even went so far as to talk about payments between those involved in order to create the narrative of organized crime and dangerous individuals. False information was published concerning the 6 detainees, using previous conversations from people who had absolutely no connection with each other, thus creating an atmosphere of confusion and misdirection.

I have been portrayed as an obsessive, dangerous person who teeters between two worlds: the political and the criminal, as they call it, with the sole objective of seeking revenge against the prosecuting authorities. What I want to say to all the Pretenderis and Evangelatos of this world is that, besides being ridiculous, you are also foolish because you are trying to convince the world of the profile of a person that serves you and at the same time how well your government, which has been feeding you all these years, is doing its job. You are the very same garbage that covers up state murders like in Tempi and you try to shield all the responsible friends of yours and primarily the then Minister Karamanlis with every ridiculous means available. You didn’t care for even a second about the children who were murdered because of you, and provocatively you shift the blame right and left, while we all know about the friendly appointments without a public examination authority, the bribery in Serres, and so on. The henchmen of your then Minister. We all remember the minister saying that it is a shame to talk about security issues on the railway, and 8 days later we become witnesses to capitalist-state crime in Tempi.

You are the same ones who remain silent when the police evict poor people from their homes for debts to your bosses, the bankers. You are the same ones who dine with golden spoons next to the real mafia of this country – politicians and businessmen – laughing at the suffering of the oppressed.

Therefore, I am happy and content that I don’t resemble you in the slightest. I have learned to look the world in the eye and not deceive them, to care for people and take a stance on whatever happens. I am proud to have grown up with values that you don’t even know.

I may be a captive in your prisons, but my soul and mind are and will remain free. So continue your witch hunt, create scenarios that serve you, and label whatever and however you want.

You were born cowards, and you will live as thugs.

‘I want to go on my way,

bypassing the hesitant

and the slow-walkers’

P.S: The above text is just a few words about the restoration of truth and a critique of the current condition. I will provide a more detailed explanation once I am called for the interrogative procedure and have the indictment in my hands.

Greece: One-day hunger strike in response to the internationalist call for action in solidarity with Marcelo Villarroel

One-day hunger strike in response to the internationalist call for action in solidarity with Marcelo Villarroel

“These are times of clarity and definitions”

“I am from the war, a classic son of the working class, of the city growing up in a population where the code of struggle was and is for survival in the always precarious material conditions, but with strong bonds of communal solidarity as a life practice… Respect for the mapu ñuke, the search for a harmonious relationship with the planet, the recovery of spaces and territories and their clean control to build an autonomous path with values that oppose the bourgeois way of teaching and the ideology of the great God of Capital, perpetuated with blood and fire by the Chilean national state, and all its death apparatus, are aspects that make it impossible for me to ignore the bonds with and deep feelings about the struggle for the liberation of wallmapu.

These are times of clarity and definitions. Autonomous, anti-authoritarian and anarchist subversive practices in this part of the world cannot ignore the territoriality of the conflict, nor can they remain only in general and tepid solidarity….

The mode of confrontation is our inalienable choice in prison and on the street, we are not victims of circumstances, but conscious warriors of a fight to the death for the Total Liberation of peoples, individuals and communities. This is where all our efforts are made and renewed. “1

On March 15, Mapuche anarchist comrade Marcelo Villarroel Sepúlveda passed 15 years of captivity. The decisions of the Chilean state want him to serve 13 more years in prison, according to its junta laws (from Pinochet). Athens, Greece: ‘Until the demolition of every prison. Always with anarchy.’ Document of the Open Assembly of Anarchists for the initiative in solidarity with Alfredo Cospito in front of the Italian Embassy

‘Until the demolition of every prison. Always with anarchy.’ Document of the Open Assembly of Anarchists for the initiative in solidarity with Alfredo Cospito in front of the Italian Embassy (Athens, Greece, Feb. 16, 2023)

We publish “Until the demolition of every prison. Always with anarchy,” the call for the Feb. 16 initiative in front of the Italian Embassy in Athens in solidarity with anarchist Alfredo Cospito on hunger strike to the bitter end. The enormous movement of international solidarity that has manifested itself in recent months is proof of how to the isolation and censorship of the state and its prisons we will always oppose the tenacity and consistency of our ideas and practices. This text and the initiative of the Open Assembly of Anarchists, reaffirming the perspective of international revolutionary solidarity, are a further contribution in this regard.

* * *

UNTIL THE DEMOLITION OF EVERY PRISON. ALWAYS WITH ANARCHY

Because for those who love life, reacting when it is turned into surviving is a necessary act.
– Anna Beniamino, “Declaration of beginning hunger strike,” Nov. 7, 2022

Alfredo Cospito, imprisoned anarchist convicted of the crime “massacre” in the “Scripta Manent” trial – a charge concerning the double explosive attack on the Carabinieri Cadet School in Fossano, claimed by Rivolta Anonima e Tremenda / Federazione Anarchica Informale (RAT/FAI) – has been on hunger strike against the 41 bis prison regime and hostile life imprisonment since Oct. 20, when he was imprisoned in the Bancali prison in Sassari, Sardinia. Since May 5, and after ten years in prison, the state has chosen to reinforce the isolation of the comrade (who until then had contributed significantly to the debate among anarchists with letters, articles and interventions) through the detention regime provided for in Article 41 bis of the Italian Prison Order (the carcere duro), a law-abomination that, in essence, requalifies imprisonment into a form of special isolation even on the intellectual and sensory level. It is a suffocating stranglehold that almost completely nullifies communication and contact with the outside world, a torture of psychosomatic annihilation against militants in order to force them to political “repentance.”

Moreover, the purpose of this regime is to create a barrier to revolutionary-antiauthoritarian dialogue between comrades inside and outside prisons. Systematic censorship and the attempt to annihilate the very existence of political prisoners reveal the teeth of democracy and the fear of authoritarian forces of those who carry and spread the seed of revolt and attack for the demolition of the world of the state and capital.

Alfredo Cospito, a continuer of anarchist discourse and practice, raises the shield of the hunger strike to repel the vindictiveness of the state apparatus. The Italian state, with its fascist practices-through the last elections and beyond-has a long history of confrontational tension with anarchists, its enemies who over the years have had trials and investigations for their actions and beliefs, even at the cost of death.

Also imprisoned in the same annihilation regime are three political prisoners, members of the Red Brigades for the Construction of the Combatant Communist Party (BR-PCC) arrested in 2003, Nadia Lioce, Marco Mezzasalma and Roberto Morandi, while Diana Blefari – also a member of the BR-PCC and a longtime prisoner in the solitary confinement of the 41 bis regime – committed suicide in 2009.

With the approval of the new Penal Code and with the even more recent approval of the new Penitentiary Code by the Greek state, “maximum security” prisons or wards now have as their purpose “increased supervision” of “unruly” prisoners, apart, of course, from political prisoners, convicted under the main counterrevolutionary legal instrument par excellence applied to guerrilla warfare, 187A; all seven years after the abolition of Type C prisons thanks to the struggle waged through hunger strikes by political prisoners at the time. This latest development in the state’s legal arsenal is nothing less than a tendency to absolutize prison conditions, also placing a regulation on social confinement with surveillance and control outside the confines of the prison and opening a serious possibility for the introduction of solitary confinement and torture models (similar to 41 bis) in Greek prisons as well. Prisoners in Korydallos and Domokos prisons are still engaged in resistance mobilizations against the new and further authoritarian Penitentiary Code. Greece: Solidarity to comrade Thanos Chatziangelou hunger and thirst strike – Pola Roupa & Nikos Maziotis, members of Revolutionary Struggle

Posted on 2023/01/04 by darknights

Solidarity to comrade Thanos Chatziangelou, member of the Anarchist Action organization who is on hunger and thirst strike since 19/12/2022 and is in danger if he has not already suffered permanent damage to his health.

We are living in times of a general unbridling of state violence and repression in a general environment of social crisis, misery and impoverishment: Suppression of self-managed spaces of resistance, violent repression of demonstrations, state killings with the organs of the state going unpunished, continuous hardening of criminal and ”penitentiary” legislation with one of its main objectives being to deal with political opponents of the state.

The state’s increasingly intense attack on prisoner militants has reached the point where it does not even accept the demands made through hunger strikes, which are not even mentioned in the new Penitentiary Code, as they were in the old one, but involuntary hospitalisation and forced feeding, which constitutes torture, are now being rearranged.

Comrade Thanos’ request to return to Korydallos prison should be granted.

Solidarity with the anarchist prisoners L. Vougiouklaki, F. Daskala, G. Michailidis, K. Dimalexis and I. Rodopoulos, who are on hunger strike and accompanying Thanos Chatziangelou, who are also on hunger strike.

No comrade should be left alone in the face of state repression.

Greece: Text of Solidarity for the hunger striker Giannis Michailidis by Giannis Dimitrakis

Posted on 2022/06/01 by darknights

The militant and conscious start of the struggle that comrade Giannis Michailidis began on May 23, as a hunger striker, claiming his freedom from the prison hellholes, can only find me in solidarity with him, and, to the extent possible, with every means and way by his side. Unfortunately, my state of health does not allow me to unite words with action, so that I can accompany his struggle, for a short or long period, with a hunger strike.

I want to hope that the knowledge and experience gained a year ago from the movement, when it clashed with the same state mechanisms to justify D. It has left those who participated with a qualitative basis on which to recombine thought and action in more effective ways, leading collective solidarity to rise again as our weapon against the authoritarian rodents, like a sharp blade, cutting the state chains that vindictively hold a comrade captive and opening the way to freedom.

Good strength, all of us together have nothing and no one to fear.

The fear for freedom is stronger than all the others (fear in the heart belongs more to the bosses)

SOLIDARITY IS OUR WEAPON

Since 24/05, our friend and comrade, anarchist political prisoner Giannis Dimitrakis is being hospitalized at Lamia with heavy injuries from the murderous attack against him at Domokos prison. At the very moment, it appears that Giannis has overcomed the danger of the first hours. The injuries that he sustained however, have caused multiple hematomas in the head that influence basic functions of his brain.

On the murderous attack against anarchist comrade Giannis Dimitrakis

Since 24/05, our friend and comrade, anarchist political prisoner Giannis Dimitrakis is being hospitalized at Lamia with heavy injuries from the murderous attack against him at Domokos prison. At the very moment, it appears that Giannis has overcomed the danger of the first hours. The injuries that he sustained however, have caused multiple hematomas in the head that influence basic functions of his brain. On Sunday 30/05, many of us gathered outside of the hospital of Lamia. We shouted slogans just a few meters away from his bedroom window to express our solidarity, even though Giannis could not hear us. Since then, his state seems to be improving. For his health to be fully restored, however, continuiing monitoring from specialized medical personell is required for several months. It is obvious that such care cannot be given in the prison environment.

In this critical condition, the scumbags of the New Democracy government, the murderers of prisoners, Michalis Chrisochoidis, Sofia Nicholaou and their substitents, after trying to downgrade and even withhold the incident, decided on Thursday 03/06 the transport of Giannis Dimitrakis back to Domokos prison, going as far as to place him in an isolation cell for covid prevention purposes. The transfer of our comrade there, while his brain functions remain in immediate danger, is basically like a second murder attempt against him. Domokos prison is scheduled to soon become a discipline prison (type C) for political and undisciplined prisoners, although the prison does not fulfill the requirements to support decent health care that is needed for the recovery of a prisoner with such heavy injuries. After the near murder of Dimitris Koufontinas by the government, while he struggles to recover from his recent hunger strike in the same miserable conditions of the same prison, the murderous attack on Giannis is added to this equation as well. As Assembly of Solidarity with political prisoners and persecuted fighters, and as a solidarity movement in general, we are determined not to let our comrade helpless in their blood stained hands. Nothing can stay unanswered, not one of the death policy managers can be left in peace. As an assembly we generally try to see the issue of prisons system not separated but as a part of the big picture of the social and political issue. In the same way, we see the political prisoners as comrades first, but also as captives of the social-class war that always festers in this cruel capitalist world. In the same way, we understand the legal and prison system, firstly as a state policy determined by the class war, but also as a part of the total policy of the economy, health, education and environment as well. In all these fields, state and capital are moving in a neoliberal approach, attempting to demolish what is left as an obstacle in the way of capitalist development. At the same time, they try to silence every voice of resistance and drown every revolutionary prespective and tradition in sorrow. They use propaganda in order to strengthen their violence and dominance policy. Keeping that in mind, we consider both the specific events and the general state of the Greek prison system as social and political events that mirror the situation outside of prison as well.

Greece: Text by Nikos Maziotis, Member of Revolutionary Struggle, on the Denial of Exit Permit

Posted on 2021/07/13 - 2021/07/13 by darknights

I am already serving 8.5 years in prison for the activities of the organization Revolutionary Struggle. I have been sentenced for all the attacks of the organization to 137 years in total, of which the new CP stipulates that in 20 years are suspended. According to the «penitentiary» code, even with the latest modifications made by the government last November, when it increased the limits for granting leave to convicts with 10 years or more of sentence – from 1/5 of the sentence as it was before, to 3/10 – I am entitled to be granted a short leave, since instead of the 6 years required for someone with 20 years of sentence, I have served 8.5 years. I should also point out that I have served most of my sentence to the limit of being eligible for parole at 3/5th of it, as stipulated by law for decades. In fact, as I have been informed by the secretariat of the Domokos C.C. where I am detained, in the first months of 2022 I will serve 3/5 of my sentence. That is to say, the 12 years gross of the 20 years of imprisonment which will then include more than 9 years of my stay in prison plus 3 years of working days of beneficial computation in the serving of my sentence.

The granting of short furlough days to prisoners, which has been legislated following prisoner struggles, is essentially a transitional stage in the preparation of prisoners from confinement to release with restrictive conditions due to the suspension of serving the remaining 2/5ths of the sentence.
