Italy: Juan Sorroche – ‘Reflection on the General Context of the Causes of the Struggle’

Posted on 2024/05/03 by darknights

Regarding my convictions and trial charges and the nexus of non-systemic revolutionary struggle action practices and “my” meaning of the anarchist vision

“(…) The reality is precisely this complex thing that cannot be traced back to the results of a judicial proceeding. This will always be arbitrary and will be based not on evidence but on force, not on logic but on domination. Difficult reasoning? Maybe so, but reasoning that once done can never be forgotten” [Published with the title “Noterelle su Sacco e Vanzetti. In margine a un convegno di studi”, in “Anarchismo”, n. 63, July 1989, pp. 36-40].
Alfredo Maria Bonanno, A mano armata, Pensiero e azione, Edizioni Anarchismo

In remembrance, and a warm greeting and see you soon comrade Alfredo!

Note:

To facilitate the writing of the text, I chose to use mainly the masculine as a gender ending. Aware of the importance of rejecting and countering gender abuses (as of any kind), I trust in the reader’s understanding so that no one feels discriminated against.

Premise:

Hello to all, compañeras and to all, compañeros

I am Juan Sorroche, an anarchist prisoner arrested on May 22, 2019 and I write from the AS2 section of the Terni prison where I have been locked up for 5 years.

After my heavy sentence on January 26, 2024 in Rome in the Court of Cassation trial for the action against the Lega Nord, a party that was and is part of the government of the Italian State, a strongly racist, misogynistic and xenophobic party.

As an anarchist prisoner I would like to make clear to comrades, revolutionaries, outcasts and oppressed the connection of the causes of the struggle for which I am here in prison today as an anarchist prisoner.

In the first instance, even though the prosecutor had removed the charge of “political massacre” (285), I was sentenced to 28 years in prison plus 3 years of probation. On appeal, almost half of the sentence, I was sentenced to 14 years and 7 months. A few days ago, the Court of Cassation definitively sentenced me to 14 years and 7 months, a significant and exemplary sentence for the attack.

In the first instance, I want to say that I entered prison already having spent a cumulative period of about 8 years behind bars for my struggles in Italy, which is why I escaped into hiding in 2016 to continue living-fighting. Of these 8 years, 4 years are for the “NO TAV trial”. Subsequently, the other 4 years were different trials related to anti-prison and anti-CPR struggles, anti-fascist and anti-democratic struggles, struggles against technologies, GMOs, “environmentalists”, in which I took part, always trying to include the anti-state and anti-capitalist aspect of anarchism in Trentino as well as in different Italian situations. Including the Susa Valley, a path that I had taken in the past years in the NO TAV struggle against one of the projects of capital and the State and the devastating tentacle of the high-speed train. I was arrested, among many others, for the days of struggle and violent clashes of July 3, 2011. During the trial and during my imprisonment at the time, I claimed with a personal statement those days of struggle and the paths of opposition to the TAV and more generally the anti-state and anti-capitalist aspect. I refused the defense in the “NOTAV Trial”, positioning myself anti-juridically even trying to fight in court by refusing the trial, believing that I should not “defend” myself in that judicial theater, and for this I was sentenced to 4 years and 6 months. And I take those decisions with my head held high.

In May 2019, after 2 and a half years on the run, I was arrested together with another comrade accused of having supported my being on the run, and then the comrade was sentenced for aiding and abetting to a year and a half, a sentence that was significant and exemplary as we had not seen each other for years, and it gave us a hint of the new tenor of the trials to come.

When I was arrested, little by little, I became aware of a series of investigations and trials that see me accused of several attacks (with terrorist aims) in Italy:

– the bombs at the headquarters of the Lega Nord in Treviso for the attack of 12/08/2018, regarding the two explosive devices, one exploded and another full of nails discovered by the bomb squad in the form of a trap to carry out the components of the building and the police; these were placed in the headquarters of the Lega Nord in Treviso and were claimed with the claim:

“Let’s hit them at home!!!: (…) to specifically attack racism and exploitation. To strike at the state, capital and its perpetrators. Direct action makes it clear to us why and how. For an internationalist, rebellious, and anarchist solidarity! Solidarity with all prisoners (…). And to all the rebels locked up in the homeland prisons of the world!”
Haris Hatzimihelakis Cell/Black International 1881/2018

– the bomb at the Surveillance Court of Trento 2014. Sentenced in the first instance to 3 years and 2 months, then acquitted on appeal, I must soon go to the Supreme Court. Claimed anonymously: in solidarity and to give voice to the prisoners who struggle with dignity in all prisons and to the anarchist comrades who were in prison isolated in AS2 in Italy and other anarchist prisoners in the world.

– the bomb against the POL GAI (police academy) claimed by cell H, I report some sketches of the published claim:

“(…) as a cell H (C.A.A.) akin to the Black International and we join the call to action for a BLACK DECEMBER. We attacked one of the armed arms of the state. In this “school” cops from all over Italy and other countries are educated. This is a small signal against war. We stand in solidarity with all the people who are fighting against all states and capital. Our thoughts go out to the many comrades who have been repressed, locked up, tortured, or killed in the present and in the past. In solidarity with all the detainees who are struggling.”

This is in the context of the campaign launched by anarchist prisoners in Greece for a Black December, called international in the context of anarchist action in 2015.

A trial that I will begin shortly.

To date, I have accumulated 23 years in prison.

Actions that I agree with because for me they are part of the history of our movement of struggle in non-systemic revolutionary anarchism of action and of the struggle for freedom of all the oppressed in the world. Regardless of whether or not I am responsible for these facts. And I am determined to move forward in my anarchist life in order to live-fight within my limited possibilities as a prisoner. Cassation sentence in the trial on the action against the Villorba League headquarters: upheld the sentence issued by the court of appeals against Juan Sorroche (Jan. 26, 2024)

We report below a brief update taken from the internet site “Il Rovescio” regarding the ruling of the court of cassation
of Jan. 26 as part of the trial against fellow anarchist Juan Sorroche, currently imprisoned in the AS2 section of the prison in Terni, for the action against the League’s headquarters in Villorba (in the province of Treviso) on August 12, 2018 (two devices, the first deflagrated, the second unexploded and defused by police forces). Recently, shortly before the hearing, the comrade published a
text, for the time being disclosed only as a downloadable attachment (“Small background analysis of my latest sentence in the appeal of 14 years and 7 months during the period of solidarity struggle with Alfredo”), which we will publish as soon as possible on this website.

Comrade’s address:

Juan Antonio Sorroche Fernandez

C. C. di Terni
strada delle Campore 32
05100 Terni

* * *

On Jan. 26, the Court of Cassation rejected both the defense appeal and that of the prosecutor, upholding the sentence of 14  years and 7 months in prison imposed on Juan in the appeal trial for the action against the League’s Villorba (Treviso) headquarters. Love and rage for Juan and all the imprisoned comrades!

Italy: Gatherings in solidarity with Alfredo Cospito, all imprisoned comrades and prisoners in revolt (Terni and Spoleto, November 1, 2022)

Posted on 2022/10/30 - 2022/11/12 by darknights

ALFREDO OUT FROM 41 BIS
CLOSE THE 41 BIS
EVERYONE FREE

Since Oct. 20, fellow anarchist Alfredo Cospito has been on hunger strike in Sassari prison against the 41 bis regime in which he was placed last May after ten years of detention in High Security. The unprecedented decision to lock up an anarchist in 41 bis is just the tip of the iceberg of the authoritarian turn underway in Italy, a turn that was inaugurated with the March 2020 prison massacre, continued with the investigations against union struggles, with logistics workers accused of “extortion” against the boss because they demanded wage increases, in a particularly fierce preventive counterrevolution against the anarchist movement as indicated by the seizures of books and newspapers, the endless special surveillance, the sentencing of Juan Sorroche to 28 years in prison, and the Cassation of the Scripta Manent trial.

TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 1.
10 a.m.: Terni Prison.
2 p.m.: Spoleto Prison.
SOLIDARITY GATHERINGS

– We bring news of Alfredo’s struggle under the 41 bis sections!
– In solidarity with Juan, prisoner in High Security in Terni Prison!
– Solidarity with the medium-security prisoners in the Terni jail protagonists of the uprising last October 16!
– Solidarity with Roberto Morandi, communist revolutionary in 41 bis in Spoleto prison!

Note: Comrades Juan Sorroche (since Oct. 25, in Terni prison) and Ivan Alocco (since Oct. 27, in Villepinte prison, France) are on hunger strike in support and solidarity with Alfredo.

Italy: Statement of Juan Sorroche in front of the court of Treviso and against the telematization of the democratic inquisition.

Posted on 2022/06/18 - 2022/06/18 by darknights

In this umpteenth hearing in videoconference and after many requests, all denied, to appear and attend in person and not in absence to all the hearings of the trial that sees me charged, for the heavy and infamous accusation of massacre, I have to face the issue of videoconferencing, which enters, or to be more precise, was entering, in the infamous logic of the differentiation of the penitentiary circuits, in which the individual prisoner and accused is demonized and dehumanized by the said “considerable social dangerousness”. And I said that I was entering, because the videoconference, the trial in absentia, has been extended to all the prisoners in Italian prisons, who have been left without a real defense and with the marginalization that all this implies for all the defendants who suffer this imposition, through a liberticidal dynamic of the umpteenth emergency, this time for the Covid-19 emergency, which then became law. It is known, it is already evident and unmasked – and I am not only talking about the contradiction of this problem especially, or of one law or another – how the specific problem of the videoconference has reduced the defense to be a farce, annulling in fact the defendant within the trial.

This court will probably say that this has nothing to do with the trial taking place today.

But I believe it does, and what is more, I believe it is a fundamental issue. I am talking about the contradiction that the States possess by their own systemic nature, the fundamental problem is the disintegration and degeneration that dresses itself as emergentialism, and has the objective of breaking and directing the consolidated and ordinary legality at will, transforming it into another legality. We see it with the same dynamics of the perpetual emergency, and the specific plan of the videoconference is only an example of how the systemic authoritarianism liberticidal system expands in a capillary way. It is the exception, the emergency of today, that forges the law of tomorrow, reducing it more and more. The trials by videoconference, that is, in absentia, have been established by the continuous emergencies within the said social dangerousness, which is already the norm, such as the trial by videoconference for all the prisoners in Italian prisons. And it is not that this does not have repercussions on the real conditions of the entire trial, since it hinders the management of a real defense of the accused, creating a contradiction with what your own democratic and bourgeois law argues. Italy: Update on cassation hearing for Scripta Manent trial and transfer of anarchist Alfredo Cospito from Terni prison to Sassari prison

Posted on 2022/05/27 by darknights

Update on the cassation hearing for the Scripta Manent trial and transfer of anarchist Alfredo Cospito from Terni prison to that of Sassari (Italy, May 25, 2022)

The cassation hearing of the Scripta Manent trial was held today, May 25, in Rome. The attorney general argued for the rejection of all the requests (of the prosecution and the defence) with the exception of the crime of massacre, for which he requested a referral to the court of appeal for the requalification from ‘common massacre’ to ‘political massacre’. The hearing was adjourned to June 27 for the last defence arguments and the final verdict.

Meanwhile, also today, Alfredo Cospito was transferred to Bancali prison, located near Sassari (in Sardinia). As is known, the 41 bis prison regime (the most restrictive penitentiary regime in Italian prisons) was ordered for the comrade, with a measure effective from May 5.

The comrade’s new address is as follows:

Alfredo Cospito
C. C. di Sassari “Giovanni Bacchiddu”
Strada provinciale 56 n. 4
Località Bancali
07100 Sassari (Italy)

Below is the address of the other comrade currently imprisoned for Scripta Manent, Anna Beniamino, imprisoned in the Rebibbia prison in Rome:

Anna Beniamino
C. C. di Roma Rebibbia femminile
via Bartolo Longo 92
00156 Roma (Italy)

Rome, Italy: For an international revolutionary solidarity

Posted on 2022/05/21 - 2022/05/21 by darknights

“…I think that the new can only come from their collision (of anarchist terrorism and creative anarchy), because life is contrast: rational and irrational, hate and love, everything but the mortal, static “balance”. Harmony is the daughter of “imbalance”, of chaos. “*

Well, what has been hovering for a while has finally manifested itself: on May 5, the anarchist comrade Alfredo Cospito, already detained in the AS2 section [High Security 2; Att.Nt) of the Terni prison, received the notification of the application of the 41 bis against him.
This detention regime, requested by the judges and approved by the Ministry of Justice, with the signature of the Minister Marta Cartabia, as we know, involves: the annihilation of the individual, an extension of the isolation, the deprivation of books, the lack of information and news from the outside world… in short, torture. Italy: Censorship of correspondence for anarchist Alfredo Cospito extended again (March 2022)

Posted on 2022/03/26 by darknights

We inform that in the middle of March the censorship of correspondence (incoming and outgoing) for anarchist comrade Alfredo Cospito, currently imprisoned in section AS2 (“High Security 2”) of Terni prison, was renewed once again. The censorship will last three months, until June. The measure had also been ordered between September and December 2021 and between December 2021 and March of this year.

We remind that the comrade, arrested in September 2012, already sentenced to 9 years and 5 months for the wounding of Adinolfi (CEO of Ansaldo Nucleare), was sentenced to a further 20 years in the “Scripta Manent” trial held in Turin, whose court of cassation hearing will be held on May 25 in Rome. In addition, the comrade has recently received an arrest order for the “Sibilla” operation of November 11, as he is accused of incitement to commit crimes with the aggravating circumstance of the purpose of terrorism, in relation with the publication of the anarchist paper “Vetriolo”. The arrest order was subsequently annulled by the Perugia re-examination court on December 16, while the investigation remains open.

Let’s break the isolation: revolutionary solidarity with the imprisoned anarchists.

The address of the comrade:

Alfredo Cospito
Casa Circondariale di Terni
strada delle Campore 32
05100 Terni (Italy)
