Chile: Words by Mónica Caballero, Marcelo Villarroel and Juan Aliste for the day in memory of Luisa Toledo at Espacio Fénix.

Posted on 2023/04/01 by darknights

Words by Mónica Caballero

Luisa Toledo’s persistence in the beautiful exercise of remembrance was probably one of the triggering factors that made us know and commemorate today the murder of Rafael and Eduardo Vergara Toledo by the police and at the same time that this day became the moment in which we evoke all the fallen young combatants.

It is difficult to separate the small and strong figure of Luisa from March 29th, I see in her resilience forged in the immense pain for the loss of her children, as the substrate that has nourished the path of the generations of young fighters of yesterday, today and tomorrow, who continue and will continue to confront domination in its different forms.

Comrades like the mother of the Vergara Toledo brothers leave us multiple teachings, which can be felt in practice, in their example. An example that shows us that no matter how many blows you receive, you can always get up and that scars heal better among comrades and that they are worthy of pride.

With our pains and our dead we continue in the persistent combative memory.

No one is forgotten

Chapter 10: OPSEC for Informational Self-Determination

OPSEC is military and intelligence jargon for “operational security” and refers to techniques designed to prevent their people being caught during or after an “operation”.

The fact that we have to talk about such things at all when it comes to issues like exercising the fundamental right to freedom of assembly or small acts of civil disobedience is a clear indication of how far the state’s mania for security and collection has already developed. It is generally better to invest resources on pushing back the security apparatus than in a technical arms race with state agencies.

Nevertheless, there is of course nothing wrong with trying to avoid giving unnecessary material to state authorities and exercising the right to informational self-determination. To prevent or at least significantly limit leaving casual traces, it is necessary to wear new gloves, a face mask, a hair net or, even better, closed headgear (e.g. a swimming cap) and washed clothes with long sleeves and pant legs[1]. Chile: Necessary words. 15 years in prison. Text by comrade Marcelo Villarroel

Posted on 2023/03/18 by darknights

I have been in prison for 15 uninterrupted years. 22 months in Patagonia, territory occupied by the Argentine state where I was detained and the other 13 years and 2 months in the maximum and high security sections of Santiago and Rancagua where I am today at the time of writing these letters.

Necessary letters as an inevitable reference of the passage of time and its implications.

As an inescapable trace of an oiled memory Kon la gazolina ke has lit thousands of barricades and vindictive fires demanding the release of anarchist and subversive prisoners through the years of struggle and resistance inside Chilean prisons.

I have been living for 15 years in high and maximum security confinement regimes in which sensory deprivation tends to be normalized as well as the hostilities of the environment, the structure and the internal order of the whole prison daily where the goal is to break your will and make you a citizen prisoner respectful of all its repressive and authoritarian internal order built to break the indomitable spirit of those of us who walk standing up, dignified and without fear within the prison reality through which we have had to pass.

Even from the captivity I have seen and lived the oblivion and amnesia of the majorities, the comfort and the conveniences of many, the complicit silence and the artful attack of the press and the police, their politicians and all those who in some way or another have made us invisible, defamed and attacked us from the comfort of a computer, from their comfort zones, from their privileged positions as harmless citizens servile to the normality of what exists. Chile: The Wound is still bleeding and the fuse is still burning. A new March 29th. Text of the anarchist prisoner Aldo Hernandez

The Wound is still bleeding and the fuse is still burning. A new March 29th. Text of the anarchist prisoner Aldo Hernandez.

Metal against metal, heavy blows at the entrance of the building where that night I slept with my beloved daughter and my brother, the reaction I had before their machine guns and imminent violence to which we would be subjected was to wake up and dress my daughter and tell her that the police were coming for me, I managed to tell her that I loved her forever and ever, to be strong and be calm. I stood in front of her in the face of their weapons and arrogance.

Damn cowards, they investigated me for more than a year, followed me, placed cameras, photographed me, listened to me …while they were on my heels and preferred to expose a minor to the violent raid that we lived that early morning of December 22, 2022. Despicable beings that only because of their fear did not stop me before, they were clear that this individual would not receive them in a good way, but on the contrary, with all the courage that those of us who carry the confrontation to power and its servants carry, that courage that runs through our veins, that the enemies will never be able to understand. In the pure style of the fascism of the D.I.N.A or the C.N.I. they came to me, I cannot forgive and even less forget that they subjected my daughter to a “subtle interrogation”. I hate them every second a little more, remember that my body is the one that is imprisoned today, my ideas and projects continue to travel illegally through the streets of this territory with the desire to concretize in action what I have reflected with different comrades and sisters and brothers.

I send hugs in this month marked with our blood in the history of which I am also a part. Encouragement and strength to those who make memory a daily exercise to nourish us. On certain dates the streets are ours and we can give way to the possibility of attack against the different police, those who carry in their history and uniforms the blood and pain that we have been forced to feel for the loss of beautiful loved ones.

FIRE AND EXPLOSIONS TO THE LAIRS OF THE ENEMY. SHOT BY SHOT AND BLASTS TO THEIR UNIFORMS. YOUNG COMBATANTS OF YESTERDAY, TODAY AND TOMORROW WILL CONTINUE TO BE PRESENT, IN THE STREETS WITNESS OF OUR COURAGE AND INSURRECTIONAL CONVICTION. MARCH 29TH NOBODY IS FORGOTTEN.

My warmest greetings and complicity to the beautiful and historic population of La Victoria, to the beloved Villa Francia where the words of Luisa Toledo and Manuel Vergara are echoes that resound loudly in every passage and avenue forever, to the brothers and sisters of Lo Hermida and Peñalolen who create scenarios of confrontations, to La Pincoya that does not forget its subversive and rebellious character.

Italy: ‘The homeland of Beccaria? A homeland of gravediggers’ – Anna Beniamino

Posted on 2023/02/21 - 2023/02/21 by darknights

The homeland of Beccaria? A homeland of gravediggers

So many people are digging for a corpse, but no one takes the responsibility of being the executioner. At the same time, it’s full of gravediggers ready to throw shovels of mud preparing the grave for the anarchist. A confused and dishevelled ballet around the gallows with many bit players: ‘zero tolerance’, institutional blame-game, audience depending changes of course, the spectre of anarchy that keeps the government, or rather the state, ‘under checkmate’, and then the ‘mass-murdering’ anarchists colluding with the mass-murdering mafiosi, with the appearance on stage of the PD [Partito Democratico, “Democratic Party”].

A poorly written and poorly acted theater, a scramble of ignorant ‘experts’, of professional and compulsive liars, of low journalism, sloth and cowardice that does nothing but reveal what is the potential of an individual waging a struggle alone against the state moloch. A moloch, by the way, that by its own makers claim must be very fragile if a few writings on the walls, broken shop windows and a few burnt cars are enough to put it in ‘danger’.

Whichever way you look at it, the struggle of an anarchist thrown into a torture regime has broken the prevailing narrative. Despite the ridiculous attempt to credit him as colluding with (or, even worse, directed by…) the Mafia, despite the ridiculous attempt to misrepresent his acts and words, it would seem that a little critical sense prevails, and that the attempt to undermine his credibility and integrity achieves the opposite effect of bringing out the linear coherence of anti-authoritarians and revolutionaries who continue to defend their ideas and practices without being distracted by the fireworks of post-modern media politics. And that unite, whereas repression would divide.

Shifting the focus away from the smokescreen that has been raised, which forces one to respond to low-grade rubbish, it would suffice to sustain oneself on the cornerstones of anti-authoritarian thinking: to talk of a weld between anarchists and the Mafia (and its corollary: that antagonism in the streets supports the ‘mafiosi’) is an oxymoron, just as it would be to speak of a weld between anarchists and the State for who, in case anyone had forgotten, has always made the rejection of political delegation a bulwark against the representative drift and the trafficking that underlies it. Exactly why opposing imprisonment and torture does not mean sanctifying the people inside, who are often enslaved subservients (and/or also applying) the same political and authoritarian dynamics.

Anarchism is guilty of having been swept aside and mistreated by official historiography or swallowed up in the vortex of inculture of 21st century digital illiteracy, yet its contribution to the development of the tensions and revolutionary path of the last two centuries has been fundamental, although often overexposed to the risk of instrumentalisation, internal purges or self-dissolution, unable to make the results obtained bear fruit in the long term.

However, anarchism has the virtue of being a mala erba, tenacious and difficult to uproot, which relapses more powerfully if one tries to eradicate it. That is what we are experiencing. Its mercurial ability to unite and divide, its fluidity and unpredictability have given it the ability to raise one of the thorniest, most censored and misrepresented issues: prison and torture regimes.

So much needs to be discussed, in the immediate term and in perspective. Now there is a man to support, all the way to the end, since too many are playing without restraint on his very life.

‘Until the demolition of every prison. Always with anarchy.’ Document of the Open Assembly of Anarchists for the initiative in solidarity with Alfredo Cospito in front of the Italian Embassy (Athens, Greece, Feb. 16, 2023)

We publish “Until the demolition of every prison. Always with anarchy,” the call for the Feb. 16 initiative in front of the Italian Embassy in Athens in solidarity with anarchist Alfredo Cospito on hunger strike to the bitter end. The enormous movement of international solidarity that has manifested itself in recent months is proof of how to the isolation and censorship of the state and its prisons we will always oppose the tenacity and consistency of our ideas and practices. This text and the initiative of the Open Assembly of Anarchists, reaffirming the perspective of international revolutionary solidarity, are a further contribution in this regard.

UNTIL THE DEMOLITION OF EVERY PRISON. ALWAYS WITH ANARCHY

Because for those who love life, reacting when it is turned into surviving is a necessary act.
– Anna Beniamino, “Declaration of beginning hunger strike,” Nov. 7, 2022

Alfredo Cospito, imprisoned anarchist convicted of the crime “massacre” in the “Scripta Manent” trial – a charge concerning the double explosive attack on the Carabinieri Cadet School in Fossano, claimed by Rivolta Anonima e Tremenda / Federazione Anarchica Informale (RAT/FAI) – has been on hunger strike against the 41 bis prison regime and hostile life imprisonment since Oct. 20, when he was imprisoned in the Bancali prison in Sassari, Sardinia. Since May 5, and after ten years in prison, the state has chosen to reinforce the isolation of the comrade (who until then had contributed significantly to the debate among anarchists with letters, articles and interventions) through the detention regime provided for in Article 41 bis of the Italian Prison Order (the carcere duro), a law-abomination that, in essence, requalifies imprisonment into a form of special isolation even on the intellectual and sensory level. It is a suffocating stranglehold that almost completely nullifies communication and contact with the outside world, a torture of psychosomatic annihilation against militants in order to force them to political “repentance.”

Moreover, the purpose of this regime is to create a barrier to revolutionary-antiauthoritarian dialogue between comrades inside and outside prisons. Systematic censorship and the attempt to annihilate the very existence of political prisoners reveal the teeth of democracy and the fear of authoritarian forces of those who carry and spread the seed of revolt and attack for the demolition of the world of the state and capital.

Alfredo Cospito, a continuer of anarchist discourse and practice, raises the shield of the hunger strike to repel the vindictiveness of the state apparatus. The Italian state, with its fascist practices-through the last elections and beyond-has a long history of confrontational tension with anarchists, its enemies who over the years have had trials and investigations for their actions and beliefs, even at the cost of death.

Also imprisoned in the same annihilation regime are three political prisoners, members of the Red Brigades for the Construction of the Combatant Communist Party (BR-PCC) arrested in 2003, Nadia Lioce, Marco Mezzasalma and Roberto Morandi, while Diana Blefari – also a member of the BR-PCC and a longtime prisoner in the solitary confinement of the 41 bis regime – committed suicide in 2009.

With the approval of the new Penal Code and with the even more recent approval of the new Penitentiary Code by the Greek state, “maximum security” prisons or wards now have as their purpose “increased supervision” of “unruly” prisoners, apart, of course, from political prisoners, convicted under the main counterrevolutionary legal instrument par excellence applied to guerrilla warfare, 187A; all seven years after the abolition of Type C prisons thanks to the struggle waged through hunger strikes by political prisoners at the time. This latest development in the state’s legal arsenal is nothing less than a tendency to absolutize prison conditions, also placing a regulation on social confinement with surveillance and control outside the confines of the prison and opening a serious possibility for the introduction of solitary confinement and torture models (similar to 41 bis) in Greek prisons as well. Prisoners in Korydallos and Domokos prisons are still engaged in resistance mobilizations against the new and further authoritarian Penitentiary Code. $hile: Urgent words in the face of an extinguishing flame. Written by Mónica Caballero in response to Alfredo Cospito’s hunger strike.

Posted on 2023/02/08 by darknights

I have had the pleasure of reading the words of comrades from different territories, who showed their fervent solidarity with the hunger strike of Alfredo Cospito, to get out of the torture regime of 41 bis. In these lands a group of subversive, anarchist, anti-authoritarian, anti-speciesist and nihilist prisoners also expressed our unconditional solidarity with the comrade. To fraternize with a comrade as valuable as Alfredo, and even more so in the difficult moment he is going through, is a necessity for those of us who position ourselves as negators and antagonists to the current life governed by authority. Sending words of solidarity from prison to a like-minded comrade is never too much.

In my case, when I have received words of solidarity from a comrade while imprisoned, I have always valued and treasured them as something very precious. But at this moment comrade Alfredo Cospito needs words to be transformed into actions, to attack, coerce, subvert, manipulate, threaten, etc. To all those who have the power to change his prison situation and/or who sustain the 41 bis regime.

Alfredo’s situation is no longer preoccupying and has become urgent. The matter is simple, if Cospito’s request is not granted, he will die and there are not too many days left if he continues his hunger strike.

To make the decision and carry out a mobilization such as a hunger strike, has many difficulties, your struggle is in multiple scenarios, on the one hand you have a whole repressive and judicial framework with several tools that bet on dissuading you to stop the strike, on the other hand there is your own survival instinct, your own body! $hile: Words of Mawünhko and Tomás from prison in solidarity with Alfredo Cospito

Posted on 2023/02/03 by darknights

Alfredo, today the weight of a mountain is trying to knock you down. We wonder how many times a day you struggle with your own mind. You have let us know the strength of your convictions, your body is emaciated, yet you have said it yourself “I will let myself die. My body is the last protest.”
Dangerous and highly contagious is your essence, every day in prison we think of you. A mighty forest dwells in your mind and only untamed spirits lurk in it.

Undecipherable to the powerful is your inexhaustible source of subversion. Until the last of your days you will continue your battle, from a small, dark cell, without communication, only with yourself. But in the dimension of your thoughts with your most beautiful memories, with each of your battles pumping through your veins, strengthening each millenary tree that stands in that forest.
A labyrinth with no exit is your mind for the slaughterers, for us a sweet and pleasant passage that you have let us visit, feel, observe…

For the end of the 41bis regime! Active solidarity with Alfredo Cospito!
Fire to all the prisons of the world!

Mawünhko, from San Miguel prison.
Tomás, from Santiago 1 prison.

$hile: Active Solidarity with Alfredo Cospito by Joaquín García

Posted on 2023/01/27 - 2023/01/27 by darknights

Even being distant from any idealization, it is inevitable to feel a deep admiration and respect for Alfredo Cospito, who has been able to sustain an extensive hunger strike, with his body as a battlefield, and an unwavering decision, in his struggle for the end of isolation in the nefarious 41 bis regime in which he has been for many months. Sometimes it is intangible for many to have a concrete notion of what this means, I think that perhaps it is the individual experiences that bring us a little closer to such a crude reality, and even so, it is impossible to feel what those who throw themselves into this battle feel, the physical and mental exhaustion, the sleepless nights and that every gesture costs as much as the greatest effort. We are left with the anguish, the dizziness in the stomach, and the eternal frustration of feeling that we still have to do a lot to balance, at least a little, the scales on which our defeats and victories are measured.

Anarchic, nihilistic, informal and international solidarity with Alfredo!
Let the cry of his body at war resound in every action!

$hile: From Chile to Italy. A loud cry of insurrectional complicity for Alfredo Cóspito (Marcelo Villarroel)

Words of comrade Marcelo Villarroel from prison. From Chile to Italy –
A loud cry of insurrectional complicity for Alfredo Cóspito!!!
Alfredo Cóspito is an anarchist comrade from Turin imprisoned since September 2012 after the kneecapping of Roberto Adinolfi (on May 7), executive director of Italian nuclear company Ansaldo Nucleare. This act claimed by the “Olga” Cell Informal Anarchist Federation / International Revolutionary Front for which he was sentenced to 10 years and 8 months. He was also sentenced to 20 years (first degree), for the explosive attack on the Carabinieri training school in Fossano (Cuneo) on June 2, 2006, claimed by Terrible Anonymous Revolt – Informal Anarchist Federation, which provoked the state response through the operation “Scripta Manent”.

Alfredo has been an anarchist comrade in active praxis for decades. Always consistent with his anti-authoritarian projectuality, he has maintained several antagonistic initiatives for which, even though he has been in prison for more than 10 years, the Italian fascist state does not forgive him.

In May of this year he was transferred to the Bancali prison in Sardinia where he was locked up under the 41 bis extreme isolation regime.

This prison regime was the Italian state’s response in 1992 to the rising violence of the mafia.

Since then, political prisoners of the Red Brigades have also been imprisoned under the same regime. Continue reading “$hile: From Chile to Italy. A loud cry of insurrectional complicity for Alfredo Cóspito (Marcelo Villarroel)” →
