Under our noses the imperialist armies are massing in Ukraine, make no mistake, they are preparing, yet again, for a generalised slaughter. The British Army are already deploying troops and ‘high tech’ weapons, including missile systems to be installed along the Ukrainian coast. The Russian Army are similarly massing thousands of troops along the border, preparing for all out war.

Ukraine is of ‘strategic’ interest in the ongoing energy crisis engulfing Europe. One set of oligarchs want to place a new pipeline carrying world-poisoning fuel from Russia to the west. Another set want to frustrate these attempts to profit their own national bourgeousie. In addition to this, the U.S. and the U.K. want to bring Ukraine into ‘Nato’, their gangster-imperialist international formation which dreams only of endless war and plunder, especially now Afghanistan has been looted for all its worth, of fossil fuels as well as its opium (which continues to flood the western cities, the spoils of war!). Russia also has brutal imperialist ambitions, the only way their disgusting government of tin-pot autocrats, thieves and murderers can perpetuate itself is to redraw the class tension in Russian society into a nationalistic clash between Russia and ‘the west’.

Accordingly, this provides excellent cover for their sponsorship of real state terror, rather than the laughable antics which the british media focusses on, of providing assistance at every level to the grey beuraucrat manikins, all basically interchangable, who run Belarus and Kazakhstan, enriching themselves and those who can bribe them, while using their police to stamp on any sign of courageous upheaval.

Alla fine la guerra è arrivata. Dopo due anni di preparazione alla guerra, di canti, bandiere, disciplinamento, quel «siamo in guerra» annunciato a partire dalla primavera del 2020 è infine realtà. Le tragiche notizie che vengono dall’Ucraina sono la miccia che si andava cercando per la militarizzazione definitiva della nostra società.

Le guerre sono sempre un bagno di sangue per gli sfruttati e un ricco affare per i padroni. Non ci interessano le contrapposte ragioni della propaganda dei belligeranti. Gli sfruttati in Russia come in Ucraina, in Italia come negli Stati Uniti sono i nostri fratelli, il loro sangue è il nostro sangue. I governi, i generali, gli industriali, i finanzieri sono i nostri nemici, i nostri carnefici, i nostri affamatori.

L’arrogante e insaziabile espansione trentennale della NATO e la crisi interna della Russia sono state la miscela per la situazione esplosiva nella quale ci troviamo gettati. Rome, Italy: Texts and materials distributed during the initiative of 26/11/21 at Bencivenga + Contributions of Alfredo Cospito and Juan Sorroche

We receive and publish a series of texts and materials distributed during the initiative in solidarity with the Chilean prisoners, held at the Bencivenga Occupato on November 26, 2021. Two booklets: one on the hunger strike conducted by prisoners in Chile, the other is a collection of texts, many translated from the magazine Kalinov Most, which were intended to better focus the topics of the debate: the specific reality of Chilean prisons, solidarity, fight against prison. There are also two contributions of Juan and Alfredo for the initiative, which they asked to be disseminated.

UNTIL THE DESTRUCTION OF THE PRISON-SOCIETY

This initiative was born with the need to send, in our own small way, a gesture of solidarity to the comrades prisoners in Chile who in the first months of this year have undertaken two hard hunger strikes. We want to support them, also through the translations contained in the pamphlets prepared for this meeting, by spreading the determination with which they have carried out their struggle inside the prison, with the aim of feeling it closer to us who are outside those walls and far from those territories. Although at the end of their mobilization the prisoners did not get all that they demanded, it still allowed them to build and establish bonds of complicity, both inside and outside the prison. Ties that have made this struggle transcend barriers and borders and that, since it has clearly positioned itself against all forms of coercion and domination, have made it recognizable and vindicable by refractory people all over the world.

But it is not for simple voyeurism towards distant rebellions that we are here today. With this initiative we also intend to underline our complicity with our comrades who today are prisoners of the State, so that they know that they are not alone. Also in this part of the world we have anarchist prisoners who have recently conducted several struggles inside the prison. Struggles conducted individually or collectively, strikes and mass uprisings such as those of March 2020 against pandemic management inside prisons. Struggles whose quality, to take up a concept expressed with emphasis in the contribution that Juan, a prisoner in the Terni prison, wrote for this initiative, is closely related to the relationships that exist between inside and outside the prison. These relationships are the same on which prisoners and Chilean comrades have repeatedly insisted, stating that “the prison is part of the options of the struggle, it is part of it and therefore, instead of being a parenthesis or a pause, it is configured as one more scenario in which to carry out the clash” and that it is necessary to understand “the prisoner as an active comrade, in struggle, who is in this particular condition as a result of a chosen path that does not end within [those] four walls”. Relationships in which it is necessary to invest if we want to recognize a prisoner as our comrade, as a complicit in the struggle against all power, especially at this time when these relationships are under attack. The latest repressive operations in Italy have in fact, among others, the purpose of hitting the communication between the world outside and inside the prison, putting pressure on the epistolary communication through which prisoners continue to be part of the anarchist debate and struggle, providing reflections, contributions, proposals for action and stimuli for action. Now more than ever it is therefore the time to increase efforts in the direction of greater communication and complicity with the prisoners, having as its objective not mere support in the charitable way, but rather the reinforcement of our offensive capacity against this system of domination and exploitation. Thessaloniki, Greece: Message of resistance of the imprisoned anarchist Thanos Xatziagkelou

When the hours begin to count down to the complete loss of freedom from the teeth of confinement, each moment acquires its own distinct existential meaning. A smile, a touch, the warmth of a comrade’s voice in a cold phone call, the chants outside the interrogation are the flames which burn your heart, reminding you that nothing ends. Battles have casualties. The war itself has casualties. But nothing was given to us, nothing was given to us bloodlessy because we extended our hand. Nothing was won through prayers.

In this life, everything is won through faith and dedication to the field of social antagonism. With consistency in the battles and a relentless tension, a persistence on the offensive horizon. Through my small contribution to the evolution of the class struggle, beyond my contradictions and mistakes, if there is something that characterises me it is social consciousness and the commitment to the revolutionary duty. These are the two things that, on some evenings, become a noose around your neck and do not let you sleep. Screams, sobs, and even silences awaken, and they anger you, they enrage you, they arm you. Responsibility, comrades. We have responsibility. For all those restless nights I feel proud, because all of those nights I chose for my eyes to look at the stars. I remain unyielding, unrepetant, and angrier than ever, because I defend my proud captivity against the dead freedoms of decay.

All my thoughts, love and support remain adamantly on the side of these two people that are imprisoned next to me, giving the most important struggle of all of us. The struggle against the absurdity of repression. As for me, I will remind you that the revolution against tyranny is an account that remains open. And revolutionary violence ought to be a non-negotiable, one-way street.

Comrades, until we meet again on the battlefields, let us not compromise with anything less than everything.

Chile: Text from comrades Ignacio and Luis Avaca in response to the events of November 12

In view of the events that took place on November 12 of this year, in which we were involved, we declare that it will never be an option for us to put our dignity at the disposal of the jailers, whether they are procedures completely subject to regulations, or simple humiliations. At times these may be perfectly regulatory, however, we are not guided by their rules, much less by the orders they expect us to obey, and, without wishing to victimize us, we consider that this whole spectacle was nothing more than a provocation and a targeted attack, from which they did not expect the aggressive response we gave them, always in defense of our dignity and integrity.

The facts:

At about 4 o’clock in the afternoon, a procedure takes place in module 85, in which, until now, we are locked up. This raid was attended by gendarmerie personnel from outside the module and officials from CEAC (gendarmerie canine training). From the beginning, the provocations by one of the latter officials became evident towards Luis, who received at least 3 open-handed blows to the head, as well as insults from the official. Up to this point we had decided not to get too worked up over the matter, but later, and again Luis was forced to perform a squat, a completely unnecessary humiliation in our eyes, but supposedly regulatory for the gendarmerie.

Faced with his refusal to perform the movement, the officer who was ordering him to do it pushes him to the ground, and a pack of other gendarmes accompany him, hitting him with their fists and even sticks. Ignacio attacked one of the officers who were beating and trying to reduce Luis, receiving the same treatment from another group of guards, who threw a large amount of pepper spray on his face and body. Once reduced and handcuffed, we were led away from the rest of the inmates, being constantly insulted and threatened by the gendarmes, who tirelessly repeated to us that “we were going to go to wash” to the high complexity modules, as a reprisal for our action, and for being ” anarchists” and/or “subversives”.

After this we were taken to the penitentiary hospital, where we were made to sign an injury report that did little or nothing to clarify the aggressions suffered. Once we were taken to the punishment cells, where we were isolated in a room together. At about 11 p.m. we were visited by the warden of the penitentiary complex, who was accompanied by an official with a Gopro type video camera, with which he recorded our narration of “our version” of the events.

The next day, we were taken to the internal guard cells, and only Ignacio (although the result applied to both), was interrogated and reclassified by one of the captains, who was present during the procedure, who after lying about his supposed knowledge of the consuctacion of the other subversive prisoners, not only repeated the previously mentioned “our version” of the events, but also told us that he was not the only one to be interrogated, not only repeated the aforementioned threat of “sending us to wash or be stabbed to death”, but also dared to say that we were not “subversives”, but only “kids”, that self-defense “did not apply” in prison, and that if we acted the way we did again, we would be moved to another module or prison. Subsequently we were informed that we would return to module 85 but in “conditional” status.

None of this surprises or frightens us, and if we have to defend ourselves again we will not hesitate to do so. We know that more attacks by the gendarmerie will come, either against us or against the anarchist-subversive comrades of modules 1 and 2, and we call for action, to show solidarity with facts, in the face of future institutional harassment and/or reprisals against those of us who resist this treatment.

Beautifully close to each action against power the blows to its structures, henchmen and collaborators make us return again and again to our decisions always reaffirming them we continue betting for the total liberation and the autonomous action, which breaks the asphyxiating normality of this civilized society inside and outside the walls. Conspiracies and attacks charged with courage, revenge and solidarity. These days the henchmen who hold us hostage have traveled to us knowing that walking completely calm will not be possible even inside their prisons, giving us through these acts a little more oxygen in this adverse present, an accomplice smile. The aggravation of the conflict is still in full force in our lives, anxious to attack power, we continue to boldly defend the possibility of developing without obeying, even in their prisons.

The unbridled advance against all odds on the path of social war is the result of a life in rebellion, far from hesitations and immature perspectives…
Embracing our decision to fight and attack power even if the costs are high, we bet on the real confrontation against the capitalist system, assuming with coherence all the consequences in the course of this war.

Let us give life to something, something strong that inflames and destroys everything that is at the service of power and its bourgeoisie…something that avenges and removes the dominant countenance with all our rage, ensuring continuity, that the roar of chaos destroys the eardrums of every powerful person!!!!!

Anarchic and subversive words from Chilean prisons

Faced with the rearrangement of domination and its capitalist perpetuation: Neither boots, nor votes, only struggle!

It seems that, according to what the citizenry proclaims, we are witnesses of a key moment in the history of this territory; that we have cornered ourselves with our backs to a precipice to which, unless we do something, our fall will be imminent; it seems that we are witnessing an open war, fierce, between two political poles at odds at such a level that, like a cold war, endangers the subsistence and future of all beings in the territory dominated by the Chilean State.

On one side the war cry is: “Communism or Freedom”, and on the other: “Democracy or Fascism”. In the face of such a dramatic scenario, we are presented with the key tool to confront this context, capable of stopping this bloodbath once and for all: participation in the electoral processes, in which suffrage will be the liberating weapon.

We are neither blind nor deaf, we walk with full awareness of this and many other events in the territory, we not only distance ourselves, but we declare war on any institutional instance that seeks any perpetuation of the Status Quo.

We are completely unaware of the false confrontation of two supposedly different systems, the axis on which the battle is fought continues and will continue to be that of Democracy and the administration of Capital; the existence of a “struggle” of different policies only attempts to justify the supposed breadth of the democracy-capital system, the “diverse” essence of this and the supposed space for all types of thought; in no way do we want to be accepted by a system or a society that we reject, we do not want our politics to be one more among the options of this system; we want to destroy all options and the structure that sustains them. We have nothing to do with the electoral show and its staging of elections, plebiscites, votes and so on, we consider that this is nothing more than the tightening of the pin, the bourgeois rearrangement of the class for the maintenance of an imposed and existing order in disguise and according to the times. Consulting the dictionary: concepts and definitions of “sectarianism” Part ii by Gustavo Rodríguez

If we consult the Indo-European Etymological Dictionary of the Spanish Language, it reveals that the noun “sect” (sectam) is the feminine of an obsolete participle of the Latin sequor (“to follow”) that comes from the Indo-European root *sekʷ-.³ The Oxford Latin Dictionary also agrees with this meaning.⁴ And, in the same vein, the Encyclopedic Theological Dictionary is also in agreement with this meaning; therefore, it is inferred that “the sect has as its first point of reference, not a particular doctrine, but […] membership to a group with a identity which is well-defined and distinct from the broader social environment […] The opposition is then manifested at the level of doctrine, morals, ritual and discipline and structuring of the group”⁵.

However, around this elucidation there are strong discrepancies, since the Indo-European root sek actually has three meanings that give rise to three Latin verbs: 1. secare (to blind/cut), 2. sequor (to follow), 3. siccare (to dry). The latter comes from the Latin word siccus (“dry”) which has a very different Indo-European root (*seik). However, secare or sectum (“to cut”), from which the Latin word sectio (sector/section/segment) derives, does seem to be related to the Latin and Spanish voice “secta”, as well as the verbs sequor, sequi, sequire (“to follow”, “to continue”, “sequence”). In this sense, the Dictionnaire étymologique de la langue Latine. Histoire des mots by Alfred Ernout and Antoine Meillet, offers us a certain “solution” by combining the verbs sequor (to follow) and siccus (“dry”), concluding that secta could rather derive from the verbal frequentative sector.⁶ In this regard, it is curious – without falling into wordplay – that the feminine noun “sedition”, which comes from the Latin seditio, seditionis (“estrangement”, “disunion”, “going far away”, “departure from an established power or a common march”), from which also comes “revolt”), although derived from a completely different Indo-European root (*ei, meaning “to go”), is closely related conceptually to the notion of “sect” understood as the “doctrine that departs from orthodoxy” or “sections itself from the established”.

In the religious context, these nominatives (“sect”, “sectarian” and “sectarianism”) are widely documented in the Jewish religion. Specifically, upon their return from exile (in the 6th century B.C.E.), the idea of a single God became popular among the Israelites and, hand in hand with this monotheistic conception, any group that departed from the religious hegemony began to be adjectivized as a “sect” or “faction”, considering it a “disloyal practice”. In this sense, the Bible mentions the Sadducees, Pharisees, Nazarenes and Christians as factions of Judaism. The story goes that one day Alexander the Great went to the barrel in which Diogenes of Sinope lived. Diogenes was the only philosopher who had not gone to pay homage to the great king. Reflecting on conditions of incommunicability, autonomy and refractoriness towards power is far more complicated today than it was in the 4th century BC.

Today power does not move, there is no longer a barrel inside which the shadow of the State does not reach. The only possible relationship with this global organism is violence. One hears all too often, like a plaint of bigots at evensong, that revolutionary violence is out of date. It is said that “times have changed” when, if anything, it is the possibility of escape that has changed.

The last two years have been a sad confirmation of this old story. Chile: Words of comrades Juan Aliste and Joaquín García for the solidarity activity in Villa Olimpica

From one of the thousands of prisons of the prison society, we extend an accomplice, fraternal and loving embrace to the organizers and attendees of this activity. Our political and personal positions distance us hundreds of kilometers away from any hint of begging, we believe that begging is nothing more than victimhood and welfare logics; we break with those pitiful ideas.

We are accompanied by the substance according to our free lives where the core is the present that touches us, the present that we intend, stress and fight, going through in this autonomous and multiform struggle the complicit and natural sense of solidarity … Whenever we have had any concrete need, we or our support networks, we have done it claiming our position from a combative stance, with the unwavering work of our affinity and our own effort. It would be impossible to maintain dynamics in this way if solidarity were not a basic principle in our constructions and affinities; here the contribution is reciprocal, being one of the starting points to unite us in a praxis with a joint look in the real, autonomous and diverse deployment in the continuous struggle. We appreciate every gesture and consistent participation in pursuit of solidarity.
