Public assembly in support of prisoners fighting against 41 bis and hostile life imprisonment and readings and discussion around the book “Which International?” by Alfredo Cospito and many others (Turin, Nov. 24, 2022)

Thursday, November 24, 2022 at Radio Blackout, 21/A Cecchi Street.

– 7:00 p.m.: Public assembly in support of prisoners fighting against 41 bis and hostile life imprisonment.

– 9:30 p.m.: Readings and discussion around the book Which International? by Alfredo Cospito and many others (Monte Bove Editions). We will discuss with some of the book’s editors, editors of Vetriolo.

“[…] Here, I believe that this international must fight against states and capital and feed class hatred, the hatred of the excluded, the poor, the proletariat by directing energies against lobbyists, military, industrialists, the rich, technocrats, politicians, statesmen, technicians, scientists. Against all the included, those who hold knowledge and capital and therefore power whatever it may be […].”

Italy: Solidarity presence at the appeal hearing for the recalculation of sentences against Alfredo Cospito and Anna Beniamino as part of the Scripta Manent trial + Further mobilizations for the imprisoned anarchist hunger strikers

Solidarity presence at the appeal hearing for the recalculation of sentences against Alfredo Cospito and Anna Beniamino as part of the Scripta Manent trial (Turin, Dec. 5, 2022)

The Scripta Manent trial has reached its final stages. Last July 6, the Supreme Court requalified as a so-called political massacre one of the crimes (inherent in the double explosive attack against the Fossano Carabinieri Cadet School on June 2, 2006, claimed by Rivolta Anonima and Tremenda / Federazione Anarchica Informale) for which anarchists Anna Beniamino and Alfredo Cospito were convicted in the Scripta Manent trial. Life imprisonment is the basic penalty under the penal code for political massacre. After requalifying the crime, the Supreme Court sent the case back to the Court of Appeals to redetermine the sentences. The hearing that will decide the extent of those sentences is set for Dec. 5 in Turin. We publish below the manifesto for the solidarity presence with the imprisoned comrades.

Anarchists

Some dates of the mobilization in solidarity with the imprisoned anarchists on hunger strike (Turin, Nov. 20-Dec. 5, 2022)

Since last October 20, the anarchist Alfredo Cospito has been on hunger strike to the bitter end against the 41 bis prison regime to which he is subjected and against the hostile life sentence.

That is why an international mobilization of solidarity is underway for him and for the other imprisoned anarchists who have decided to accompany him on strike: Juan Sorroche in Terni prison, Ivan Alocco in a French prison, and Anna Beniamino in Rome’s Rebibbia prison.

Alfredo has been in prison continuously for ten years, spent in High Security sections until his transfer to 41 bis. The 41 bis is a prison regime of annihilation, in that it is designed to cause physical and mental damage through the technique of sensory deprivation; it is a political and social death sentence designed to sever all forms of contact with the outside world.

Alfredo was convicted, along with Anna Beniamino and other anarchists, in a trial aimed at criminalizing ideas and practices hostile to authoritarian oppression, and now the sentence for Alfredo and Anna has been recast as “political massacre,” the only punishment for which is life imprisonment. The recalculation of the sentence will take place at the Turin Court of Appeals on December 5.

The Italian state, which has always protected fascist mass murderers, now wants to convict two anarchists for massacre for an explosive attack that caused neither casualties nor injuries.

This affair breaks into the increasingly grim repressive climate with which we all find ourselves dealing: that is why the struggle of Alfredo, Juan, Ivan and Anna is close to the heart of those who do not want to resign themselves to a world that is increasingly an open-air jail.

Their struggle is our struggle!

Rebels and solidarity, always!

Italy: Against 41 bis, from Alessandria prison: communiqué of Nicola De Maria in solidarity with Alfredo Cospito, Nadia Lioce, Marco Mezzasalma and Roberto Morandi

Posted on 2022/11/16 - 2022/11/16 by darknights

We publish the following communiqué by Nicola De Maria, militant of Brigate Rosse – Colonna Walter Alasia (‘Red Brigades – Walter Alasia Column’) imprisoned since February 1982, currently in the High Security section of the Alessandria prison, on the initiative – extension of the time outside the cell, against the strict provisions of prison regulations – undertaken by him on November 9 in solidarity with Alfredo Cospito, anarchist comrade on hunger strike to the bitter end since October 20 against 41 bis prison regime to which he was transferred in May this year, and with Nadia Lioce, Marco Mezzasalma and Roberto Morandi, militants of Brigate Rosse per la costruzione del Partito Comunista Combattente (‘Red Brigades for the construction of the Combatant Communist Party’) imprisoned in 41 bis for 17 years.

‘Crisis, war, repression against workers, unemployed, students’

In this context, the 41 bis prison regime for revolutionary prisoners has recently been extended; a regime that aims at the annihilation of their identity and psycho-physical integrity.

On November 9, 2022, I extended the time outside the cell in:

– solidarity with Alfredo Cospito, anarchist prisoner on hunger strike to the bitter end in the Bancali-Sassari prison against 41 bis;

– solidarity with the Brigate Rosse–PCC prisoners, Nadia Lioce, Marco Mezzasalma, Roberto Morandi, who have been resisting the 41 bis regime for more than 17 years.

For Alfredo Cospito

Text of Solidarity by the Members of Revolutionary Struggle

Pola Roupa and Nikos Maziotis

The physical and moral extermination of revolutionary fighters and political prisoners, or the coercion of them into political renunciation and repentance, has been the goal of the State and capital throughout time. In order to achieve this aim, States have created special conditions of detention and isolation for those who took up arms against the regime, for those they call “terrorists”.

One example of special detention today is the Italian model under Article 41 bis.

Under Italian law, the Minister of “Justice” is given the right to lift the rules of treatment of some prisoners and order their transfer to special conditions of detention. The special conditions based on Article 41 bis impose complete social and sensory isolation, limiting contacts with other prisoners, limiting visits to one (1) per month with relatives, not by physical contact but through a glass partition, limiting, prohibiting, correspondence and the possession of books, shrinking prisoners’ exercise period to one (1) hour per day and increasing the time of confinement inside the cell.

These conditions are a form of torture aimed at crushing militant prisoners and in general those under this regime. Continue reading “Greece: Pola Roupa and Nikos Maziotis: For Alfredo Cospito. Text of Solidarity by the Members of Revolutionary Struggle” →

USA: Update from Eric King and Call for Support

Posted on 2022/11/16 by darknights

Update on anarchist prisoner Eric King with a call for support and a new statement from Eric. For more updates and info, go to Support Eric King.

Eric has been on some form of commissary restriction or another for the last 4 years. He will never walk another yard again but his restrictions have finally been lifted! We would love to celebrate this and surprise him a bit. Basic small pleasures we often take for granted. Spoil him with sweets. Let him finally load up on enough stamps to respond to everybody. Lots and lots of peanut butter! If you drop a donation here we are going to group them together and send them via Western Union to surprise him”

Eric’s Commissary Blast can be found here.

Eric’s booklist can be found here. (DN: We only post the list here for it to be known Eric’s books, but in no way suggest anyone should use amazon)

Statement from Eric King

Hello friends, comrades, and government Nosey Nathans! I’ve been in ADX for about two months now and wanted to give a little update and talk over what things are like here.

This prison, more than any, exist to break spirits and disrupt connections to the real world. It was built specifically for that purpose. The isolation here is on a very deep level. There are days that pass where I literally speak to no one and hear no one else. Some folks have decades here; imagine if you can. It’s brutal and sickening. This entire joint is a psychological war zone.

We are given TVs, which is cool, but you can get lost in them. It’s very easy to give up on fitness, mail, reading, and live in the screen. That is 100% what they want, digital social control, screen shackles. I do lots of jogging in place when a show is on, lots of movement. I’ve been in the SHU the last 4 years, most of that time without radio or books let alone a TV. That time was brutal as shit but it did teach me how to set a routine, and to get by on very little…that’s also easy for me to say knowing I’ll be out in approximately 10 months, having done one year here…many don’t have an outdate, or mail, or books coming. This is their life and those NOT swallowed by desperation are some of the strongest people imaginable. Continue reading “USA: Update from Eric King and Call for Support” →

Spoleto, Italy: Spontaneous demonstration for Alfredo Cospito on hunger strike

Posted on 2022/11/15 by darknights

On the margin of the planned gatherings held outside the prisons in Terni and Spoleto, some of the comrades took part in a demonstration through the streets of Spoleto.

Given the massive deployment of forces present in the acropolis of the old city centre, to protect the happy continuation of the holiday for tourists, the demonstration moved through the streets of the lower part of the old city chanting slogans against 41 bis, repression, war, in support of revolutionary action, in solidarity with Alfredo Cospito on hunger strike, the anarchists Juan Sorroche and Ivan Alocco who joined in his battle, and the communist prisoners in 41 bis, distributing various leaflets. The demonstration first surprised the repressive forces, who took half an hour to deploy the anti-riot police, who, after another half an hour or so, forced the break-up.

The comrades remained compact and firm on their positions, despite a few attempts at intimidation and a lot of paternalism. We stayed together for a while longer to protect each other and in the end the cops left in dribs and drabs.

Alfredo out from 41 bis!

Greece: Anarchist prisoner comrade Giannis Michailidis starting a hunger strike as a sign of solidarity with the 11 fighters and hunger strikers from Turkey

Posted on 2022/11/15 by darknights

Hunger strike of anarchist GIannis Michailidis as a sign of solidarity with the 11 fighters and hunger strikers from Turkey

On 7th of October, the 11 fighters from Turkey Ali Ercan Gökoğlu, Burak Agarmış, Hasan Kaya, Sinan Çam, Şadi Naci Özpolat, Halil Demir, Anıl Sayar, Harika Kızılkaya, Hazal Seçer, Sinan Oktay Özen and İsmail Zat started an indefinite hunger strike with the main demand of a fair trial.

From today, Saturday 12 November and for one week I am starting a hunger strike in support of their difficult struggle. Their trial starts this Wednesday 16 November in the courtroom of Korydallos prison.

I also want to send a signal of solidarity to the anarchist comrade Alfredo Cospito who has been on hunger strike since 20 October against the torture regime of article 41-bis, but also to the anarchist Anna Beniamino and the anarchists Juan Sorroche Fernandez and Ivan Alocco who are on hunger strike alongside him.

Spain: Update on our comrade Gabriel Pombo Da Silva (October 2022)

Posted on 2022/11/15 by darknights

In concrete terms, the situation of our comrade has not changed much. Here is a summary of the few new developments since the last communiqué appeared on the Internet last April. Up to now we have always said that legally one of the problems to be solved has to do with a deliberate confusion in the application of a specific Penal Code. That of 1973 (which corresponds to a sentence of 30 years with the application of the different redenominations accumulated in these decades), in force at the time of the conviction for the events of 1990. Or the 1995 code (which corresponds to a sentence of 20 years without the application of the aforementioned remissions), obviously more favorable in terms of calculation.

We recall that, theoretically, they should always apply the most favorable Penal Code, but we know that the “always” varies according to who you are… Gabriel is still who he is and his determination, constancy and clarity certainly do not play in his favor in relation to time. In any case, Penal Code of 1973 or 1995, he should have been released because he has been detained for many years too long.

With a slowness of biblical times, on July 5 came the good news: his sentence can be recalculated to 20 years (he should be given back many years of life). As always, things are not easy, the times of state justice are physiologically long and we must add the times of political revenge. Said, done: this good news actually corresponds to the pronouncement of the Prosecutor but the last word belongs to the judge who only has to confirm what his colleague said and then submit the new calculation to the other competent courts. It is not difficult to imagine how this judge is taking all the time he can (he has no formal deadline) and that he has not communicated anything so far. No wonder: if they had wanted to apply their own law Gabriel would already be free! Continue reading “Spain: Update on our comrade Gabriel Pombo Da Silva (October 2022)” →
