Bucharest, Romania: Solidarity action with Alfredo Cospito at the Italian embassy

Posted on 2023/02/24 - 2023/02/24 by darknights

21/02/2023

[eng] This morning a banner of solidarity with the anarchist prisoner Alfredo Cospito, in hunger strike for the past 124 days, was shown next to the Italian embassy of Bucharest. Ever since the events of Piazza Fontana, the Italian state silences those voices that act for a world freed from oppression, while using strategies of torture and isolation through the prison system techniques such as “41bis”, aiming the physical annihilation of anyone who stands against exploitation and political injustices.

Solidarity with Alfredo Cospito, against the 41bis torture regime!

Solidarity and internationalist action on the eve of February 24 EN/ES

Posted on 2023/02/24 by darknights

EN: On February 24, the Italian justice will review the maintenance of the extreme isolation regime called 41 bis. Alfredo has been on hunger strike for more than 120 days fighting against this imposition. It was through the strike and solidarity that it has been possible to reach this hearing, initially planned for April, then March and finally for a couple of days more.
Today the anarchist Alfredo Cospito is fighting a battle to the death against a regime that seeks only to exterminate him politically and physically. There is no middle ground.
The call is to sharpen internationalist solidarity and action on the eve of this important hearing, and to remain vigilant across the globe to save the comrade’s life. We are with Alfredo! Sharpen internationalist solidarity until we get the comrade out of isolation!

Italy: ‘The homeland of Beccaria? A homeland of gravediggers’ – Anna Beniamino

Posted on 2023/02/21 - 2023/02/21 by darknights

The homeland of Beccaria? A homeland of gravediggers

So many people are digging for a corpse, but no one takes the responsibility of being the executioner. At the same time, it’s full of gravediggers ready to throw shovels of mud preparing the grave for the anarchist. A confused and dishevelled ballet around the gallows with many bit players: ‘zero tolerance’, institutional blame-game, audience depending changes of course, the spectre of anarchy that keeps the government, or rather the state, ‘under checkmate’, and then the ‘mass-murdering’ anarchists colluding with the mass-murdering mafiosi, with the appearance on stage of the PD [Partito Democratico, “Democratic Party”].

A poorly written and poorly acted theater, a scramble of ignorant ‘experts’, of professional and compulsive liars, of low journalism, sloth and cowardice that does nothing but reveal what is the potential of an individual waging a struggle alone against the state moloch. A moloch, by the way, that by its own makers claim must be very fragile if a few writings on the walls, broken shop windows and a few burnt cars are enough to put it in ‘danger’.

Whichever way you look at it, the struggle of an anarchist thrown into a torture regime has broken the prevailing narrative. Despite the ridiculous attempt to credit him as colluding with (or, even worse, directed by…) the Mafia, despite the ridiculous attempt to misrepresent his acts and words, it would seem that a little critical sense prevails, and that the attempt to undermine his credibility and integrity achieves the opposite effect of bringing out the linear coherence of anti-authoritarians and revolutionaries who continue to defend their ideas and practices without being distracted by the fireworks of post-modern media politics. And that unite, whereas repression would divide.

Shifting the focus away from the smokescreen that has been raised, which forces one to respond to low-grade rubbish, it would suffice to sustain oneself on the cornerstones of anti-authoritarian thinking: to talk of a weld between anarchists and the Mafia (and its corollary: that antagonism in the streets supports the ‘mafiosi’) is an oxymoron, just as it would be to speak of a weld between anarchists and the State for who, in case anyone had forgotten, has always made the rejection of political delegation a bulwark against the representative drift and the trafficking that underlies it. Exactly why opposing imprisonment and torture does not mean sanctifying the people inside, who are often enslaved subservients (and/or also applying) the same political and authoritarian dynamics.

Anarchism is guilty of having been swept aside and mistreated by official historiography or swallowed up in the vortex of inculture of 21st century digital illiteracy, yet its contribution to the development of the tensions and revolutionary path of the last two centuries has been fundamental, although often overexposed to the risk of instrumentalisation, internal purges or self-dissolution, unable to make the results obtained bear fruit in the long term.

However, anarchism has the virtue of being a mala erba, tenacious and difficult to uproot, which relapses more powerfully if one tries to eradicate it. That is what we are experiencing. Its mercurial ability to unite and divide, its fluidity and unpredictability have given it the ability to raise one of the thorniest, most censored and misrepresented issues: prison and torture regimes.

So much needs to be discussed, in the immediate term and in perspective. Now there is a man to support, all the way to the end, since too many are playing without restraint on his very life.

Communiqué #2: Sabotage of an EHV pylon in France/Grand-Est

Posted on 2023/02/21 by darknights

Source: lille.indymedia

Via: Bure Bure Bure

In December 2022, in solidarity with the prisoner hunger striker Alfredo Cospito, we sabotaged an EHV pylon and partially removed its bolting (https://lille.indymedia.org/spip.php?article35371&lang=fr). The sabotage of a high voltage line is not without danger and, even if it is done without error, there is always a certain risk. However, we found this risk acceptable and the action entertaining. Since direct action is always an attempt to motivate and inspire other contexts, we had already announced our intention to give some technical advice:

Choice of target: When choosing the mast, make sure that the insulators (the ceramic coils to which the cables are attached) are vertical! A diagonal or horizontal position indicates a tensile load in the corresponding direction. Choose the most insulated location possible. Make sure that there are no people between the object and the nearest towers (e.g. busy roads crossing the line). Choose your escape route so that it cannot be blocked by the falling line.

Risk assessment/mitigation: It happens regularly (although rarely) that electricity pylons bend or fall, even without sabotage. This can occur, for example, due to storms, the weight of snow, or simply material fatigue or inadequate maintenance. The result is a risk of premature tilting of the mast. This risk increases with each screw loosened and exponentially with each foot completely unscrewed. It is up to you, as a group, to decide how far you want to go. In all cases, plan the action with the possibility of the mast falling while you are still there. Both at the base of the mast and where the cables touch the ground, there is a potentially lethal tension on the ground within a certain radius! Move away from the object as quickly as possible in the opposite direction of the fall. Ensure that your body remains in contact with the ground at all times (grounding), walking with small “shuffling” steps. Make sure that the weather conditions are favorable. Under no circumstances should you perform this action in strong wind, heavy rain or snowfall!

How to proceed: During the reconnaissance of the object, we noticed with some annoyance that the thread projections of each screw were destroyed by drilling (photo). An anti-sabotage measure of RTE which we do not know if it applies to all EHV lines or only to this one. In retrospect, we can see that it is certainly more tiring, but that it is still possible. For the screws, we concentrated on the ones that connect the mast to its foundations (50 mm key). On the inside, a short handle of about 20-30 cm is enough, as it gets stuck in the structure of the foot. On the outside, you will need a strong tube extension to increase leverage. For ease of transport, it is recommended to use several tubes that fit into each other. For some screws, we needed up to 2 meters of leverage. Before the actual action, we sprayed the screws with penetrating oil (WD 40) and let it work for several hours. We repeated this operation at the beginning of the unscrewing. The last few screws were significantly more difficult to remove, which we interpreted as a sign that the mast was already starting to lower. For this action, you will need at least 2 to 3 people on the object. You can count on about 3 hours per foot (16 screws at a time). If you find a pole with undamaged bolts, it will probably go faster.

Tracks: It is almost impossible to work for several hours in the same place without leaving many tracks! Check regularly during the work if your body is still completely covered (e.g. between sleeve and glove). In any case, get rid of your clothes and shoes after the action. Keep your workplace clean and store your tools in such a way that nothing is inadvertently left behind, even if you have to stop the action before it is completed. Athens, Greece: CLAIMING RESPONSIBILITY FOR AN INCENDIARY ATTACK ON A CAR DEALERSHIP by Carnivalists of fire

Athens: CLAIMING RESPONSIBILITY FOR AN INCENDIARY ATTACK ON A CAR DEALERSHIP

“Fortune knows that we defy it, and the more it beats us, the more we despise it.” William Shakespeare

In a few months, as we all know, the four-year rule of new democracy with Kyriakos Mitsotakis as prime minister will come to its “happy” end. Before the government even started, it promised many times that (like another Papadopoulos  (dictator leader on 70s) it would ”crack down on anarchy” thus declaring open war on all anarchist-revolutionary-rebellious parts of society.

After 4 years of evictions of squats, bans on strikes and marches, State murders, extreme repression and imprisonment of innocent but proudly ‘guilty’ comrades, we are still here. Although we have had some resounding disappointments and defeats (let us not hide behind our finger) we proudly declare that the anarchist revolutionary movement has not fallen and will never fall without a fight. And that is the only way we ought to look to the continuation of our struggle. For unlike theirs our way has no end. Our road is eternal, etched with the blood of those who sacrificed for Anarchy and Freedom and carved in the footsteps of fire.

That is why we are taking responsibility for the incendiary attack on a car dealership in Kallithea at dawn on 12/2, which, make no mistake, was not for extortion or for blackmail, as the media declared the next day, but as a small blow to the image of normality, security and social peace that prevails in Greek society. We dedicate this attack to all our comrades who, unrepentantly and without fear, still look the enemy in the eye and take it on. Because the ruins of a ‘beautiful’ delegation that tries to cover up the vulgarity of society will always fill us with satisfaction.

Vulgarity that takes its cruelest form inside the prisons in an attempt to physically and mentally dehumanise the prisoners and cut them off from the rest of society, reinforcing the already existing social apathy. But make no mistake! The spirit is not flattened and the voices are not silenced. A prime example is the struggle of the prisoners inside Greek prisons that has been going on for months against the new Penitentiary Law and continues despite the vindictive transfers. We stand proudly by your side!

“Thy wild dogs want liberty; they bark for joy in their cellar when thy spirit endeavoureth to open all prison doors.” Nietzsche

Athens, Greece: Feedback from the solidarity meeting with comrade hunger striker Alfredo Cospito, at the Italian Embassy [16/2] Sempre con l’anarchia!

[ΕΝ] Feedback from the solidarity meeting with comrade hunger striker Alfredo Cospito, at the Italian Embassy in Athens (Greece) [16/2] Sempre con l’anarchia!

The only enemy is the state and capitalism

On Thursday 16 February, a solidarity meeting was held with the anarchist hunger striker from 20/10 against 41-bis and perpetual life imprisonment, Alfredo Cospito, as a signal of internationalist solidarity from Athens. The rally crossed the sidewalk of the Italian embassy, although the cops told us to stay on the opposite sidewalk. We then left in an assembled fashion and opened banners at Syntagma, opposite the parliament, before leaving.

On the same day (February 16), while the struggle against the Penal Code in Greek prisons continues, anarchists and militant prisoners started a collective hunger strike with whatever strength each one has individually, to stand mentally by the side of the anarchist Alfredo Cospito and against the regime-grave of 41-bis (G. Michailides, Th. Chatziangelou, I. Rodopoulos, L. Vougiouklakis, P. Vougiouklakis, F. Daskalas, S. Nikolouzos and S. Kalaitzidis went on one day of hunger strike, and D. Hatzivassiliadis and K. Dimalexis went on three days of hunger strike).

Solidarity constitutes the substrate of every effort to internationalise the struggles of the oppressed and on this basis, the need for organic international revolutionary solidarity constitutes the project of our struggles in the here and now, for the destruction of the dominion and the creation of free anti-authoritarian communities. Alfredo’s struggle against the isolation-extermination regime of prisoners is a struggle of all of us. Alfredo stai ai nostri cuori!

Let our solidarity and our collective self-defence against the plans to capture and plunder our lives be universal.

ALL THE VALUES OF THIS SOCIETY ARE MAXIMUM-SECURITY PRISONS

STOP TORTURII 41BIS!

Italy: Update on Operation Sibilla: hearing set for Alfredo Cospito and other comrades under investigation at Perugia review court

Posted on 2023/02/21 by darknights

On Feb. 13, the setting of the review hearing on precautionary measures was notified for comrades targeted for measures in the November 11, 2021 Sibilla repressive operation (including Alfredo Cospito, who has been on hunger strike for more than 120 days, and Gianluca, who is currently under house arrest in the Diamante investigation by the Genoa prosecutor’s office). The hearing is set for March 14 at the court in Perugia.

This second re-examination stemmed from the hearing held on June 22 in Rome at the court of cassation, which concluded by granting prosecutor Manuela Comodi’s request, thus annulling the previous order of the review court (which on Dec. 16, 2021 had resulted in the revocation of the precautionary measures). The court of cassation, in spite of what had been expressed by the attorney general (who had called for the rejection of the Perugian prosecutor’s appeal), had thus “exhumed” the investigation by annulling the revocation of the measures and ordering a new review hearing.

Operation Sibilla, carried out by the Carabinieri’s Special Operational Group and the Perugia prosecutor’s office under the coordination of the National Anti-Mafia and Counterterrorism Directorate, played a key role in the genesis and application of the 41 bis detention order for comrade Alfredo Cospito.

Eight comrades (including Alfredo himself), previously investigated by the ROS and the Milan Prosecutor’s Office in another case for 270 bis c. p. (subversive association for the purpose of terrorism and subversion of the democratic order) and 414 c. p. (incitement to commit a crime, with the aggravating factor of the purpose of terrorism) in connection with the editing, publication and distribution of the anarchist newspaper “Vetriolo,” had been the subject in September 2021, by the Perugia prosecutor’s office, of a request for precautionary measures in prison on the same charges, plus other charges for various reasons relating to additional articles, leaflets and documents, as well as wall writings and for one comrade to a damage to some Poste Italiane cars (Foligno, June 6, 2019) in solidarity with anarchist comrades on hunger strike over the closure of the High Security 2 section of the L’Aquila prison.

At the same time as this request for arrest, a three-month censure order on correspondence was ordered for comrade Alfredo Cospito, which was subsequently renewed several times. The reasons for this censure became clear only a couple of months later, when – with the November 11 operation – the Sibilla investigation “emerged” and PM Comodi’s original request was downgraded by the Judge for Preliminary Investigations. Thus, a new order established no longer eight arrests in prison but six precautionary measures in relation only to the charge of incitement to commit crimes with the aggravating factor of the purpose of terrorism: an arrest warrant for Alfredo Cospito (at the time imprisoned in Terni Prison); house arrest with all restrictions for a comrade from Spoleto; and an obligation to stay in the municipality of residence jointly with the obligation to sign three days a week for four comrades. In addition, other comrades turned out to be under investigation at large, countless searches were carried out, and two websites (roundrobin.info and malacoda.noblogs.org) were subjected to preventive seizure and blacked out (a practically unprecedented fact as far as the Italian-speaking anarchist movement is concerned), remaining unreachable to this day with conventional search engines. ‘Until the demolition of every prison. Always with anarchy.’ Document of the Open Assembly of Anarchists for the initiative in solidarity with Alfredo Cospito in front of the Italian Embassy (Athens, Greece, Feb. 16, 2023)

We publish “Until the demolition of every prison. Always with anarchy,” the call for the Feb. 16 initiative in front of the Italian Embassy in Athens in solidarity with anarchist Alfredo Cospito on hunger strike to the bitter end. The enormous movement of international solidarity that has manifested itself in recent months is proof of how to the isolation and censorship of the state and its prisons we will always oppose the tenacity and consistency of our ideas and practices. This text and the initiative of the Open Assembly of Anarchists, reaffirming the perspective of international revolutionary solidarity, are a further contribution in this regard.

UNTIL THE DEMOLITION OF EVERY PRISON. ALWAYS WITH ANARCHY

Because for those who love life, reacting when it is turned into surviving is a necessary act.
– Anna Beniamino, “Declaration of beginning hunger strike,” Nov. 7, 2022

Alfredo Cospito, imprisoned anarchist convicted of the crime “massacre” in the “Scripta Manent” trial – a charge concerning the double explosive attack on the Carabinieri Cadet School in Fossano, claimed by Rivolta Anonima e Tremenda / Federazione Anarchica Informale (RAT/FAI) – has been on hunger strike against the 41 bis prison regime and hostile life imprisonment since Oct. 20, when he was imprisoned in the Bancali prison in Sassari, Sardinia. Since May 5, and after ten years in prison, the state has chosen to reinforce the isolation of the comrade (who until then had contributed significantly to the debate among anarchists with letters, articles and interventions) through the detention regime provided for in Article 41 bis of the Italian Prison Order (the carcere duro), a law-abomination that, in essence, requalifies imprisonment into a form of special isolation even on the intellectual and sensory level. It is a suffocating stranglehold that almost completely nullifies communication and contact with the outside world, a torture of psychosomatic annihilation against militants in order to force them to political “repentance.”

Moreover, the purpose of this regime is to create a barrier to revolutionary-antiauthoritarian dialogue between comrades inside and outside prisons. Systematic censorship and the attempt to annihilate the very existence of political prisoners reveal the teeth of democracy and the fear of authoritarian forces of those who carry and spread the seed of revolt and attack for the demolition of the world of the state and capital.

Alfredo Cospito, a continuer of anarchist discourse and practice, raises the shield of the hunger strike to repel the vindictiveness of the state apparatus. The Italian state, with its fascist practices-through the last elections and beyond-has a long history of confrontational tension with anarchists, its enemies who over the years have had trials and investigations for their actions and beliefs, even at the cost of death.

Also imprisoned in the same annihilation regime are three political prisoners, members of the Red Brigades for the Construction of the Combatant Communist Party (BR-PCC) arrested in 2003, Nadia Lioce, Marco Mezzasalma and Roberto Morandi, while Diana Blefari – also a member of the BR-PCC and a longtime prisoner in the solitary confinement of the 41 bis regime – committed suicide in 2009.

With the approval of the new Penal Code and with the even more recent approval of the new Penitentiary Code by the Greek state, “maximum security” prisons or wards now have as their purpose “increased supervision” of “unruly” prisoners, apart, of course, from political prisoners, convicted under the main counterrevolutionary legal instrument par excellence applied to guerrilla warfare, 187A; all seven years after the abolition of Type C prisons thanks to the struggle waged through hunger strikes by political prisoners at the time. This latest development in the state’s legal arsenal is nothing less than a tendency to absolutize prison conditions, also placing a regulation on social confinement with surveillance and control outside the confines of the prison and opening a serious possibility for the introduction of solitary confinement and torture models (similar to 41 bis) in Greek prisons as well. Prisoners in Korydallos and Domokos prisons are still engaged in resistance mobilizations against the new and further authoritarian Penitentiary Code.
