Italy: Annulment of the measures of Operation Sibilla + communication by Alfredo Cospito

We learn with joy of the cancellation of all precautionary measures against the anarchists and anarchists affected by “Operation Sibilla. Following the statement of the comrades from Spoleto and a text by Alfredo Cospito, escaped the meshes of prison censorship:

Operation Sibilla: all precautionary measures cancelled

Today the news arrived that all the precautionary measures for the Sibilla repressive operation of November 11, directed in particular against the anarchist newspaper “Vetriolo”, were annulled by the court of re-examination which was held on December 14. Therefore, the obligations to sign and stay for three comrades, the house arrest for Michele Fabiani and the precautionary detention in prison for Alfredo Cospito, who remains imprisoned for the sentence to 20 years in the process Scripta Manent, have been cancelled.

The motivations will be known within 45 days. Without going into the merits of the courts’ paperwork, it seems that the wording “annulment” represents the maximum possible denial on a technical level of the accusatory hypotheses. In any case, whatever would have been the response of the judges, remains our firm perseverance in revolutionary anarchist propaganda, solidarity with the imprisoned comrades and the defense of anarchist publications. The repression does not surprise us: we knew that the recent convictions in the appeal process of Scripta Manent against the last edition of “Anarchist Black Cross” would be an infamous precedent.

We reiterate our solidarity with Alfredo, who this very investigation aimed to isolate and silence. A hug to Anna, Juan, Beppe, David and all the prisoners who do not lower their heads.

The story goes that one day Alexander the Great went to the barrel in which Diogenes of Sinope lived. Diogenes was the only philosopher who had not gone to pay homage to the great king. So Alexander went to him. Alexander asked him: “Tell me what I can do for you”. And Diogenes answered: “Yes, move away, stand out of my light.”.

Reflecting on conditions of incommunicability, autonomy and refractoriness towards power is far more complicated today than it was in the 4th century BC.

Today power does not move, there is no longer a barrel inside which the shadow of the State does not reach. The only possible relationship with this global organism is violence. One hears all too often, like a plaint of bigots at evensong, that revolutionary violence is out of date. It is said that “times have changed” when, if anything, it is the possibility of escape that has changed.

The last two years have been a sad confirmation of this old story. A new era was heralded in with the massacre in the Italian prisons, the people locked in their homes while production continued to go ahead, the attacks and killings during the transport strikes, the countless repressive manoeuvres against anarchists, and finally through the green pass, the final (?) destination of the new society of control. Italy: One might ask why we should not all want this…

On November 11, numerous searches were carried out in various Italian cities and six comrades were notified of precautionary measures: in prison for Alfredo Cospito, under house arrest for Michele Fabiani, an obligation to stay in the municipality of residence and three signatures per week at the local barracks for four other comrades. In this period in which the State takes an increasingly authoritarian path for the management of continuous emergencies that it has contributed to generate, could not miss the umpteenth operation against those who oppose the State and this huge accumulation of limitations, prohibitions, blackmail and punishments.

The accusation is that of having, in various ways, participated in the publication of ‘Vetriolo’, anarchist paper. It is not the first time that the printed paper alone becomes a clue and evidence to trigger waves of searches and arrests. “They wanted to attack the State”, thunder the national and local media. One might ask why we should not all want this, especially at a time when the state with one hand is making strong to the sound of impositions and repression in the streets, and with the other increases the cost of living and launches the release of redundancies.

The search for freedom implies the attempt to establish and develop practices in that sense. Breaking with imposed directions, dogmas and predetermined schemes is essential in the construction of anti-authoritarian relations and in the strengthening of these.

Multiformity in terms of action (and not only) is circumscribed in this way of understanding and carrying out the struggle. It is an expression of freedom that denies singular rigid behaviors and ways of doing things, as well as encouraging imagination and autonomy.

It is also a rejection of specialization and specialists who, as we have seen, sooner rather than later become leaders who become enlightened vanguards. It was and is recurrent to see how the armed apparatuses that perpetrated significant actions became the leadership of an organization or the part of a movement that arrogated, through the use of arms, its representation, demonstrating a militarism that we are alien and contrary to.

On the other hand, the multiformity has managed to extend the propaganda in a considerable way. By means of banners, graffiti, incendiary barricades, explosives and gunfire, anarchic ideas have spread, finding spaces where they are welcomed and put into practice. This is where the importance of what has been called “reproducible actions” comes into play, generally associated with “small actions” that do not require greater risk or that would not entail the questioned prior specialization. “Reproducible actions” would have the advantage of being carried out by anyone, which would increase their possibility of extension, thus generating greater impact and/or effectiveness in achieving a given objective. Saint-Mandé (Val-de-Marne), France : A car of the municipal police on fire

Sunday evening we were walking towards Saint-Mandé and we came across a silk-screened car of the municipal police of Kremlin-Bicêtre. Parked there, in a street apart (rue de l’amiral Courbet), quiet. The only thing missing was the red carpet. Neither one nor two, we went to look for firelighters, and shortly after the keufmobile already started to burn!

There are many reasons to attack a police force. They are so obvious that one might think that these lines are unnecessary. There is not a week that goes by without cops getting stoned in a poor neighborhood. Besides, everyone hates the police!

But we are not “everybody”. Among this “everybody” there are people who ask for truth and justice (as if the role of the police in this world was not obvious and as if we could get justice from the state). There are people who want a more democratic police force or who hate it because it prevents them from doing their business or driving fast.

On our side we want the end of all authority, of the state and of capitalist exploitation. We are not mere factors of disorder among others. Besides, this famous disorder is only a means perhaps (and to consider it too much as a necessary presupposition of freedom we arrive at a kind of historical determinism, as if the present world produced all by itself the contradictions which should lead to its overcoming…), but we think that the individual will is much more important to tend towards freedom.

This is why we continue to say loud and clear long live anarchy!

We take this opportunity to send a hug of solidarity to the companions recently repressed in Italy.

Italy: Does the Sibilla forecast the storm? EN/IT/FR/ES

At the dawn of November 11, there were numerous searches in different Italian cities and 6 comrades were notified of judicial surveillance orders: in prison for Alfredo, with house arrests for Michele, with the prohibition to leave the municipality of residence and the obligation to report to the cops three times a week for four other comrades.
The comrades are charged with the crime provided for by article 270 bis (association with the purpose of terrorism and subversion of the democratic order), because of the design, printing and diffusion, also by digital and computer means, of the anarchist newspaper Vetriolo, as well as for tags on walls with contents considered as outrage and incitement, in addition to a case of damage of a property belonging to others. In addition, they are charged under art. 414 (provocation to crimes and misdemeanors), for the drafting and dissemination of communiqués with content inciting the commission of crimes against the personality of the State, with the aim of terrorism and subversion of the democratic order.

In addition to this, two counter-information websites are closed: roundrobin.info and malacoda.noblogs.org [by the way the state censorship did not work: both sites are still accessible; NdAtt.], because considered an aggravating circumstance of the crime of provocation to crimes and misdemeanors (through a digital instrument).

The investigation begins in 2017, in Milan, at the beginning of the experience of the newspaper, and then it is transferred in the hands of the Prosecutor’s Office of Perugia, until today; it reviews the content of the anarchist propaganda articles, which are declared as dangerous for their communicative effectiveness and because of the diffusion of the radical idea.

This is not an attack on the freedom of press and thought. The State is doing its job of controlling and managing the internal enemy, in order to maintain its authority, and publications that resolutely affirm contents of a certain type, undermining its interests, are clearly targeted, as has always happened throughout history. In the current democratic and technocratic regime, characterized by an authoritarian turn, what is “allowed” is confined within the limits of maintaining economic profits and capitalist production and consumption. As is evident in the street demonstrations that these days express their opposition to political-sanitary impositions, the limit of what is licit is defined by the institutions and the limit of the freedom to protest is increasingly reduced. Those who publicly assume to publish a newspaper like Vetriolo, giving support and space of expression to the anarchist and revolutionary prisoners, are aware that the repression will be set in motion, with investigations accompanied by sensational headlines in the media. But this is not the reason why we will complain about the lack of democratic freedoms of expression and press, which in fact have never existed, let alone today. Italy: On 11/11/2021, the ROS [Carabinieri Special Operations] raided the homes of dozens of comrades all over Italy

At 4am in the morning of 11/11/2021, the ROS [Carabinieri Special Operations] raided the homes of dozens of comrades all over Italy on orders of the PM Comodi in an investigation set off by the usual Nobili and Basilone.

Alfredo, in prison for having shot at Adinolfi, CEO of Ansaldo Nucleare, and for ”operation Scripta Manent”, was notified of yet another pre-trial detention; another comrade is under house arrest, four more were subjected to an obligation to remain in their own area with regular signing.

The main accusation is of having constituted and promoted an association with aims of terrorism, an accusation in particular revolving around the paper “Vetriolo” and some articles published in it.

Linked to this operation, the editors of Roundrobin were notified the same evening that they are under investigation: the accusations (threats, incitement to commit crimes, association with terrorist aims) are linked to the publication of some writings which in the cops’ opinion are signed by some of the comrades under investigation.

As Roundrobin we have always wanted to give space to all anarchist ideas and debate and are proud to have published the writings of the comrades under indictment.

Despite the difficulties due to which the site has been on hold for almost a month, we will now recommence giving space to the contributions that reach us, no matter what the shit servants of power think.

Italy: Intervention of Alfredo Cospito to the initiative “Land of Love and Freedom” in Grisolia (24.08.2021)

The following text is the intervention of fellow anarchist Alfredo Cospito, currently imprisoned in Terni, for the debate on the book What International?, held in the context of the second edition of the initiative “Land of Love and Freedom”, two days of anarchist publishing in Calabria focused on internationalism and revolutionary continuity, in Grisolia 23-24 August 2021.

Lately I have been wondering with what nerve an anarchist prisoner for ten years as I claim to express an analysis “realistic” about the present, the real movement outside these four walls. The interview with “Vetriolo” caught me still relatively soaked in reality, out of the fray of the struggle, still convinced of having a “realistic” and objective view of the world. What international? is the result of thirty years of practiced struggle, of blows inflicted and received, of affinities and friendships born and then traumatically severed by the wall of a prison. Summing up, today I can say with a certain conviction that the only moments in which I was certain of having contributed to changing things were those moments in which I clashed with the system, in which I risked my freedom and my skin. In those moments I lived, I felt more alive than ever. And the pleasure I felt was incomparable, comparable only to the love for one’s own or one’s partner in the most intense moments of passion. I remember when, as a young boy, it seemed impossible for me to intervene concretely, the level of deepening always seemed insufficient, the practical skills I had didn’t seem up to the task, I didn’t know where to start, at the beginning one feels inept, incapable… I was waiting for a suggestion, a start from my more experienced companions. Often, in exchange for my enthusiasm, I received a good dose of “realism” that dampened or risked dampening any revolutionary “ambition”, any drive to action. Incredible as it may seem, “realism” sometimes makes any action, any impetus, impossible. I came out of this sort of “dead end” only when I decided in an impish, reckless, crazy, provocative way to arm my hands. Then everything became “easy”, failure after failure, step by step, things started to work. I looked for my companions and I found them, we recognized each other by making the refusal of delegation and wait-and-see our compass. Many (perhaps too many) years have passed since that time and today I find myself on the other side, “navigated” anarchist with more “experience”. And what I feel like saying is simply to follow your instincts and not to pay too much attention to the prudence of those who from the height of their lives “lived” push for moderation. Because that popular saying “you are born an arsonist and you die a fireman” is not so far-fetched. Every day in here I fight with myself to remain what I was, and I don’t always succeed. In my words I sometimes glimpse what I’ve always fought, opportunism, paternalism, realism… “politics”. Dynamics that risk making me forget how beautiful it was to communicate only through gestures of destruction and the words that followed them. When I wasn’t in danger of becoming a “point of reference”, when I was a complete stranger. And the stupid things I happened to say remained limited, no one rightly spun them. The tragicomic thing is that the “metamorphosis” is almost painless and does not only affect us prisoners but perhaps even more those who outside these walls every day relate to a reality that tends to normalize. The “realism” drags you to a continuous decline that leads you to judge those who remain “themselves” as naive, provocative, childish, deluded. What international? Interview and dialogue with Alfredo Cospito from the prison of Ferrara.Part One

Internationalism has always been the principle inspiring the actions and horizons of the exploited who do not accept the role that society has given them. It has always been a vaccine against opportunism of every kind, a guarantee that those who practice it are not the servants of their boss or a foreign boss, but are authentic enemies of all forms of exploitation and authority. Internationalism as tension, as spirit, does not change with the changing of times. But the way it becomes real in history changes. Reformists, opportunists and authoritarians have always tried to pervert internationalism towards their own interests. The question of questions, the lever get the world to rise up, is therefore the International. How, what should the International be today? Should it be a real “organization”, a federation of groups, a “world party”? Or can there be instruments or “structures” that are closer to the anarchist Idea and that are more effective in this historical period?

Like “scientific” socialism, anarchism was born to oppose a global process, capitalism and the advent of the bourgeoisie. It is more than natural that anarchists and Marxists have from the beginning pursued with alternating fortunes an international organizational dimension. In the nineteenth century, with Bakunin, anarchy abandoned the philosophical, idealist level to take its first steps in the real world. First against Mazzini’s messianic liberalism, to then clash with Marx’s state socialism, giving rise to the autonomist federalist currents within the First International.
