Italy: Ethics wanted – or – a fairy tale at times anarchist

Posted on 2021/08/24 - 2021/08/24 by darknights

Almost two and a half years have passed since, after only 19 days’ prison – I’m telling you – 19 days, you decided to leave a declaration in a review trial, it was 26/2/19.

When I got to know of your decision at the time, sorrow and anger resurfaced as they did when the texts entitled “dotting i’s” and“I burabacio” made their appearance.

I ask myself and ask you: you declare you are anarchists and revolutionaries, you practice conflictuality in the neighbourhoods in daily life, you live in or frequent squatted places, you organize or take part in gatherings outside prisons, detention centres for migrants, benefits; but what do you talk about on those occasions?!

Empty talk, obviously, if you still haven’t understood when to keep quiet or what kind of declaration to make.

Everything seems as though you participate in order to have a clear conscience and to clock in.

Your declaration handed to a prosecutor is the umpteenth proof, even if some stupid anarchist hadn’t realized it, of the fact that it is we anarchists ourselves who give suggestions to prosecutors to create the famous differentiation between good and bad anarchists, between social and insurrectionalists. Italy: An Immoral Fairy Tale by Anna Beniamino

Posted on 2021/08/01 - 2021/08/01 by darknights

AN IMMORAL FAIRY TALE

Anarchists read a lot and write even more, perhaps it is because of some excess of bookish culture that we talk about ethics to no end when you trudge to understand it and forget to apply it in everyday life. And… when one realizes the error one has made, one still writes pages and pages (it is not clear whether for private use or for a selected public) of redundant corrections that sound even more shaky and hypocritical than the trial declarations, when not comical in their frantic contradiction.

I don’t enjoy moralizing within four walls, but, noting that certain silences risk being filled by the chatter of others, I think it’s time to address a curious phenomenon of inversion of meaning and referents of discourse, a couple of years old and not yet clarified.

On the occasion of one of the many anti-anarchist repressive proceedings, as a defensive strategy, the defendants, who had been in prison for a month, decided to make spontaneous statements, which were filed for review in February 2019.

Without going into the merits of the content, the first incongruity is that this is done in secret to the comrades, the movement (… this mysterious entity to which we all refer anyway), revealing their political and “ethical” (with all the quotation marks of the case) on attack practices, mode of relations and fields of interest of the movements … only to the magistrates.

Strange, isn’t it?

In my naivety about movement fairness I had grown up hearing a different refrain, something that sounded simple, argue even fiercely but leave foil or cleaver outside the courtroom.

Instead, in step with the times, the moral of the story is different.

The damage is done, and if someone notices, let’s put a patch, or more than one depending on the interlocutor.

I HOPE I GET AWAY WITH IT

The “ethical” compass that is invoked so much becomes a useless burden in trying to stay afloat.

The “confidentiality” after the fact “in the desire not to aggravate the error by adding useful words to the repressors”, in order not to discuss so publicly the subsequent pieces, after having already privileged such an interlocutor, sounds particularly clumsy and serious. Not wanting to throw everything on the net when it has been filed in court is a blatant reversal of values.

To call this juggling between accusations to be rejected with indignation and defense of one’s own immaculate conscience “that oscillating line between technical and political” or to affirm that in the secret of the confessional courtroom “statements of principle” have been made, removing a few pebbles from one’s shoe, only demonstrates how shaky, jelly-like is the base on which the fixed points of one’s own “political” actions rest.

THE HYPOCRISIES ON THE SAFETY

In these times of daily psychopolice, I think we are all (among those who frequent movements and, consequently, courtrooms) aware that our ideas and solidarity between comrades are making us pay with years and years of stolen life and that often repressive operations move on the sounding board, rather than the facts, of the positions expressed in newspapers and publications, on the solidarity expressed and on the vivisection of human relationships.

On the basis of this, we are often called upon to pay attention, to weigh the meaning of every single phrase, of every single slogan. But this must be done in a positive sense, a priori, by weighing the contents (in public and in private) not by fear, a posteriori, of sanction. Otherwise, ethics becomes merchandise for sale, on sale because it is flawed.

ON SUBSTANCE

The first step to take when faced with the facts would be… to make an effort to know them before taking a position, and not only for defensive purposes. Rushing to explain one’s reasons along the lines of an intimidated reading of the charges or of the media hype produces monsters in the worst cases, at best unpleasant hypocrisies and simplifications that only play into the hands of the inquisitors.

Individual responsibility, the rejection of top-down structures and indiscriminate acts are tautological for anarchists: I can decide to repeat them or not in a courtroom based on a number of factors. The basic problem is the harmony with the co-defendants, the solidarity between comrades.

The basic problem is above all the awareness that judges play dirty, we don’t, or at least we shouldn’t, not even with words, which only end up besmirching those who pronounce them thoughtlessly.

P. S.: If this fairy tale seems too cryptic, you can start the treasure hunt for subsequent tears and patches, asking those directly involved who wanted a debate… en privé.

Prometeo Operation: updates on Natascia from Rebibbia prison (Italy)

Posted on 2021/07/22 - 2021/07/22 by darknights

Natascia is well and her mood is high, especially since she knows that Anna [anarchist comrade sentenced to 16 years and 6 months in the Scripta Manent trial against the Federazione Anarchica Informale, “Informal Anarchist Federation”] has also arrived and received her greetings, even though Natascia is in a solitary confinement cell far away from the one she is in, which makes it impossible for her to hear directly from Anna. It seems that her transfer to Rebibbia prison in Rome is a permanent relocation, which she does not mind at all: in fact, she said she does not want to ask for other transfers and wants to stay there.

The prison has just authorised her to have four hours of visits per month, both with the comrade with whom she had visits before the transfer to Santa Maria Capua Vetere, and with her father. Her father will go when he can (given the distance, Natascia has also been authorised to make video calls with him), while the comrade intends to have regular visits every month, possibly by pooling the visit hours available to her, so as to reduce the cost of the journey from Turin to Rome and back.

Natascia is still in sanitary confinement and will remain so until the end of this week (most likely until Saturday, July 24), so the first visit will be in the last week of July with the authorised comrade.

We remind of the coordinates to contribute financially to the expenses for the maintenance of the comrades in prison, to those for the monthly travels of those who will do the visits and to those for the trial in Genoa:

Italy: Degenerations – Between pride and gender victimhood by Anna Beniamino

Degenerations – Between pride and gender victimhood
(An article Degenerazioni – Tra orgoglio e vittimismo di genere
Published in issue 3 of the anarchist paper Vetriolo)

I am anarchist, I am not feminist because I see feminism as a sectorial and victimist withdrawal, I have never made any gender discrimination although I don’t use gender-friendly linguistic conventions, on the contrary I often use dirty politically incorrect language. I think that the annulment of gender privilege and similar oppression is already contained in the search for anarchy, that is to say in the practice of antiauthoritarian relations, and should be cultivated there. Ah, I forgot, I loathe consciousness-raising in public meetings and I also consider assemblies to be blunt instruments. I understand and also have the will to meet. But I see how all too often the assembly degenerates into sterile self-representation.

You see nowadays you risk having to start off with such a preamble in order to enter the thicket of clichés on gender and feminism, disentangling yourself in the intricate incapacity to relate to the anarchist galaxy, with a range of behaviours going from hyper-emotiveness to the bureaucratic calculation of what stand (and degree of negotiable compromise) to take in a struggle. I don’t think that authoritarian and sexist behaviour can be fought by trying to spread new linguistic conventions or by cooking up shreds of mainstream indignant rhetoric (among which #nonunadimeno [enough is enough], the feminicide count on TV, pride, red shoes and rainbow ribbons) in an alternative sauce.

Rather these should be recognized as signs of yet another operation of the deconstruction of real meaning and recuperation in act. Convinced that one is opposing them, in actual fact one is adapting to the very behavioural and normative codes conceded by dominion as ways of releasing tension.

It’s nothing new that economic and political power is tending to swallow up and redigest everything, faster and faster; consider for example the pearls of anti-sexist, antiracist or whatever it might be neo-conservatism and conformism that are being dispensed by the media every day. Italy: Anarchist Alfredo Cospito transferred to Terni prison

Posted on 2021/07/04 by darknights

Anarchist comrade Alfredo Cospito has been transferred from the Alta Sicurezza 2 (“High Security 2”) section of Ferrara prison to that of Terni. Below the new address:

Alfredo Cospito
C. C. di Terni
strada delle Campore 32
05100 Terni
Italia – Italy

The comrade has been in prison since September 14, 2012, following the repressive operation that led to his arrest and that of another comrade, both accused of having shot and wounded Roberto Adinolfi, the CEO of Ansaldo Nucleare, on May 7 of that year in Genoa. The action, claimed by the Nucleo Olga of Federazione Anarchica Informale – Fronte Rivoluzionario Internazionale (“Informal Anarchist Federation – International Revolutionary Front”), was then claimed individually by the two comrades also during the first degree trial held in Genoa. The comrade had been imprisoned in Ferrara’s AS2 since 2013.

We also recall that Alfredo, in addition to the 9 years and 5 months sentence received in the trial for the action against Adinolfi, was sentenced to 20 years in first and second instance of the Scripta Manent trial held in Turin since 2017 and derived from the arrests of September 6, 2016. Around twenty comrades were charged in the trial, with regard to the activities of the FAI (later FAI–FRI) in Italy, involving also specific charges relating to a series of actions realized between 2005 and 2016 and for some anarchist publications and websites run by comrades. In the appeal sentence of November 24, 2020, three comrades were convicted for subversive association with the purposes of terrorism and subversion of the democratic order and for “incitement to commit crimes”. Among these three comrades, Anna Beniamino and Alfredo Cospito were convicted for some actions (explosive attacks and parcel bombs) carried out between 2005 and 2007. In addition, ten other comrades were sentenced for various reasons only for “incitement to crimes”. Currently, in addition to Alfredo, Anna is imprisoned (in Messina prison), sentenced to 16 years and 6 months.

Forgetting the prisoners of the social war means forgetting the war itself: revolutionary solidarity with the imprisoned anarchists.
