Greece: Nikos Maziotis – On the Latest Rejection of My Parole

Posted on 2024/07/09 by darknights

For the 5th time, the Lamia Criminal Court has recently rejected my request for conditional release despite the 3rd consecutive positive prosecution. During the last 2.5 years since I have reached the law of suspension by law, Lamia’s judicial councils, including the Lamia Council I had once appealed, have rejected a total of 6 times my request for conditional release. It is now very likely that I will be one of the few prisoners nationwide – if not the only one – with a temporary prison sentence with the maximum sentence of 20 years under the 2019 Presidential Code that will get the entire sentence without parole. And I will probably be the only one of dozens of political (anarchist and other) prisoners who have spent the last 20 years in prison with a sentence of temporary imprisonment, who is exempt from parole. Of course, the reasons for rejection are still political-opinional: that I refuse to recognize as criminal the acts for which I have been convicted, namely the action of the Revolutionary Struggle, as mentioned in the recent rejection decree, but also the precedent of September 2023.

The issue of repentance for the political opponents of the political-economic regime has now been historically established as a necessary criterion and condition for the granting of conditional release, thus continuing the historical tradition of the Greek state in other eras, from the years of the Metaxas dictatorship, the years of the civil war and the post-civil war period to the junta of the colonels.

Of course, the Council of Misdemeanors of Lamia has proven that it has double standards in these cases, as proved by the case of the recent – albeit temporary – release of the “führer” of the neo-Nazi organization Golden Dawn. In a country and a place where many do not have a short historical memory as the state authorities want and hope, the Lamia Misdemeanour Council was irreparably exposed socially and this is not negated by the fact that the release order was overturned by an appellate prosecutor after government-political intervention.

Once again, the historical tradition of the Greek state is confirmed and the political sympathies of several state bodies are not hidden. Just as the collaborators after 1945, the Security Battalions, the Chites, the ancestors of Golden Dawn, were treated favorably by the post-occupation state, few of them were tried and even fewer remained in prison, so today we see their descendants receiving the same favorable treatment from the current state and their “justice”. Of the 28 convicted of the neo-Nazi organization after the murder of Pavlos Fyssas, 21 are already free, while the rest do not have significant time left in detention. After all, they are “their own children”. It was nothing but a parastatal apparatus, i.e. an offshoot of the state apparatus itself, which had been operating for years, since the 1990s, with the tolerance of the police, and did the “dirty” work of the state. That is, anti-immigrant pogroms and racist attacks, beatings, stabbings, assistance of riot police in clashes with anarchists posing as “indignant” citizens, attacks on hangouts, occupations of the anarchist/anti-authoritarian space. Traditionally, the Greek state has always treated the parastatals with the glove, such as these fascists, nostalgics for the colonels’ junta who in 1978 carried out indiscriminate bombings at the Rex and Elli cinemas because they screened films that were not politically correct according to them, with content that was not “nationalist”. It is no coincidence that among them was the later “führer” of Golden Dawn. The same was done to the parastatal assassins – members of ONED-ND – of Professor Nikos Tebonera in January 1991 who had been ordered to break in a “dynamic” way the mathematical occupations of that period. Komotini, Greece: Reoccupation of Anarchist Steki Utopia A.D., book presentation event of ‘Which International?’ + Intervention by comrade Francesco Rota from Vetriolo newspaper

Posted on 2024/06/02 - 2024/06/06 by darknights

On Wednesday 29 May we reoccupied the Anarchist Steki Utopia A.D. where we held the planned event on the book presentation of the interview of the anarchist nihilist Alfredo Cospito in the anarchist Italian newspaper Vetriolo, a telephone intervention and an information from an Italian comrade about the 41BIS regime and the current situation in Italy, while a text was sent by a comrade of the newspaper Vetriolo which was translated into Greek and read at the event, followed by an update from a comrade on the new penal code and the event ended with a discussion, after some questions were asked to the Italian comrade.

In the area there were tables with texts, stickers, posters, pamphlets and books as well as a poster exhibition and a banner for the occupations. The event was attended by 20 people.

It should be noted that when we approached the site, there were about 10 people from the technical service in order to prevent the occupation and the event. Of course, they did not succeed. What we made clear to them is that not only the dean and the cops are our enemies but also any others who stand against us. The issue of the evacuation of the compound is clearly political and provocative since guards were placed in our area. The idiots in the technical department have no business getting involved in political issues.

There are no excuses that they are following orders and are afraid of being fired, nor do we care since none of the workers of the technical service bother to understand what they are asking us to understand. If they have labour problems with their bosses they can find ways of fighting their class, we will not spare any fearful minions of the enemy.

From now on anyone who comes across us will be treated as they chose to be…

Nothing is over Everything continues Continue reading “Komotini, Greece: Reoccupation of Anarchist Steki Utopia A.D., book presentation event of ‘Which International?’ + Intervention by comrade Francesco Rota from Vetriolo newspaper” →

Greece: Christos Tsakalos – ‘Freedom with an expiration date’

Posted on 2024/05/02 - 2024/05/02 by darknights

Upon leaving the prison gates, every inmate solemnly swears to never look back. Nearly all pledge this vow…

Returning, the overwhelming sense is that the prison has been awaiting your inevitable return. Stepping into the cells of Nafplio, I encountered numerous familiar faces from Grevena, Korydallos, transfers, detention centers. They now blended seamlessly into the stark penitentiary backdrop. Their histories were familiar to me. They had completed their terms and “settled” their societal debts. Both principal and interest accounted for. No reprieve was granted, not a single day spared. I pondered why they remained incarcerated.

“Revoked licenses, suspended freedoms, ancient rulings forgotten..”

Forgotten souls inhabit the penitentiary system. They are the enduring denizens of confinement with brief respites.

Media hounds in their attire and heavy cosmetics snarl for harsher punishments. They foam at the mouth, decrying the inadequacy of the sentences. “Life means life” they howl.

They are unconcerned by the prevalence of life imprisonments in Greece, issued with alarming ease by the judiciary. They disregard the absurdity of sentencing individuals to 70, 80, 100 years—burdens a convict would require two lifetimes to fulfill, extending even beyond death!

Yet, they boast of their adherence to human rights and European values. At least there is no death penalty here. Yet, indeed, there is…

Though they do not subject the felon to the electric chair’s flames, their lengthy sentences corrode him with the acid of time, forsaken within concrete confines. The enduring aspiration of the convict following the trials’ Golgotha is release and the coveted parole…

With each submission, having met all stipulated conditions, he retrieves his dossier, dons his “finer” garments, and with a substantial dose of hope, encounters his judges.

“Denied… He will not make optimal use of the parole. Denied… The good conduct displayed in prison is merely a show.”

The convict has fulfilled his end, and now the judges’ pronouncement foretells his fate. Frequently, they do not even meet the convict during his appeals. His criminal record suffices, while they proclaim not to judge his past. After all, he has atoned for his past actions.

Prisoners are not without fault, yet if the “remedy” is but extended incarceration, it must be remembered that an overdose of medication poisons the recipient. To address the issue effectively, one must identify its origins. No one is inherently criminal. The penitentiary reflects society’s image. When the convict observes that the state’s ethos comprises corruption, deceit, scandals, he emulates these traits.

Simultaneously, ambiguous court rulings and stricter penalties outlined in the revised criminal code breed resentment and survivalist cunning in the prisoner. Marginalized by society and branded by the stigma of imprisonment, he is compelled to perpetuate his malign persona. The judges’ prophecy of “feigned transformation” metamorphoses into a self-fulfilling prediction.

His freedom is subject to an expiration date.

Outside the prison edifice looms the intangible grand prison… With the dread of authentic captivity, society sequesters itself. Fear, defeatism, apathy constitute its bars… The conviction that change is inconceivable. Individuals persist in meandering within their confined spaces, commuting between home and workplace, placating their incarceration with illusory delights and coveted merchandise. Escalating impoverishment, tangible and spiritual, compels them to lower their gaze even further.

For their liberation, the harshest arbiter is the judicial panel. Their very essence. We alone must elect our manner of existence. Embrace the terms of a contented captive or opt for the requisites of genuine liberation and diginity…

Wishing you all the best…

Greece: Two texts from the recently imprisoned comrade & former member of Conspiracy of Cells of Fire Christos Tsakalos EN/ES [Updated]

Posted on 2024/02/19 - 2024/02/21 by darknights

DN Note: We have decided to post these two texts from Christos Tsakalos, a former member of anarchist urban guerrilla organization Conspiracy of Cells of Fire, who represented a “third pole” of anarchist thought in Greece, anarcho-individualism and nihilism, contrasting it with social anarchism and insurrectionary anarchism.

Since mid-November 2010, Tsakalos had been at large, as a warrant for his arrest was issued shortly after the arrest of his brother Gerasimos. On March 14, 2011, he and four other comrades were arrested in Volos. He was prosecuted for the “Volos case” (alleged bank robbery, while being dressed up like cops), for his involvement with explosives and guns, which were found on other people prosecuted for the same case (arrests in Pireus and Kallithea), for the 14 parcel bombs case, for the case concerning 250 attacks by CCF between 2008 and 2011, for the text in solidarity with Anarchist Squat Nadir (second eviction in October 2011), written by CCF, for his personal text denying the cooperation with prosecuting authorities (instigating violence), for an attempted prison escape along with another three CCF’s members in December 2011 and for taking three prison guards hostage and for instigation concerning “Phoenix” project. He is also prosecuted for an attack at a bank in the centre of Athens, in 2007, as his DNA was allegedly found on the scene. He was also prosecuted by the Italian state after a law suit by former Italian prime minster Silvio Berlusconi, concerning the parcel bomb which was shipped to him and he was also under investigation concerning “Ardire” case, which was launched on June 2012 by the Italian prosecuting authorities.

Christos was serving originally 7 years for charges stemming from the ‘Halandri’ case and 24 years and 2 months for the Fire Cells Conspiracy case. In 2016 he was sentenced to a further 115 years for an attempted escape from prison and other CCF attacks.

On 24/7/2019 under the provisions of the Paraskevopoulos Law, Christos and his brother Gerasimos who were serving time as members of the “Conspiracy of Cells of Fire” were released, having served a third of their reduced sentences.

Christos was arrested on 09/02/2024 in an operation that involved a supposed police informer who has been paid 20,000 euros. He had been originally accused of involvement in the Greek Mafia, especially in bombings that have occured in a mafia war that has been raging in Greece for several years now. He was coonected originally to two Greek navy SEAL members, arrested at the same time elsewhere, who had with them explosives most likely taken from a military base. This connection with the others, including with the the mafia, bombings and other larger charges have been dropped. He has been imprisoned for 2 years and 1 month without appeal under the newly passed Penal Code, for the misdeamours of a pistol with bullets and drugs that were discovered in a property he was staying at that was not his own.

DN Update: We also add the introductory text of the comrades from Informativo Anarquista & their translattion of the two texts further below. We agree with our Chilean comrades analysis of the situation surrounding comrade Christos Tsakalos. We would like to add that for too long there has been a putrid smell of not only propaganda vomited by the Greek media about Christos and other former members/comrades of CCF but also we are aware of the slander and gossip in anarchist circles, the movement in Greece & internationally, who even replicate the words of the media scum, state and cops.

We are reminded of the quote from a poster in solidarity with the CCF:

“The Slime of the Media feeds the unstoppable Terrorlust of the TV Audience”

On February 10, 2024, police raided four houses, investigating a possible exchange of explosives. The detainees are two members of the Greek Navy, a nightclub bouncer and comrade Christos Tsakalos, a former member of the Conspiracy of Cells of Fire.

According to the Greek press, pistols, ammunition of various calibers, fragmentation and incendiary grenades, flares, industrial fuse, detonators and two sealed boxes filled with TNT were seized during the raids.

The Navy members were referred to a Maritime Court, for possession of explosives and weapons, while the discotheque bouncer and Christos Tsakalos were prosecuted for the crime of arms control.

Finally, an Athens Court sentenced comrade Christos Tsakalos to two years and one month in prison without parole.

Note from Informativo Anarquista

The almost non-existent translations, dialogues and information exchanges dangerously distance us from the anarchist realities of other territories, especially when we speak different languages, therefore, we do not know more details about what the hegemonic press has vomited against comrade Christos after his release from prison and his new arrest.

Whatever the scum of power may say about our comrades must be read with the utmost care, as they are ultimately the complicit voice of our enemies, their propaganda tool. Their headlines, news and reports are nothing more than the graphic representation of the hatred and fear that Power has towards anarchist ideas and practices, against our history, our memory, prisoners, fugitives, dead and active comrades in the work of revolt. Let us understand that their designs and fantasies will never be the truth, they will always be an easy trigger to delegitimize our denials.

For months the Greek media has been linking the comrade with the mafias dedicated to the smuggling of fuel, designating him almost as the leader of one of the most powerful groups in the sector, also linking him with bombs that have detonated in Greece and that the police attribute to territorial disputes between mafias.

As Informativo Anarquista, we recognize Christos Tsakalos as a comrade, we believe in his warrior word. It is the voice of the comrades the only channel of communication we have between anarchists, without intermediaries or representatives.

Some writings of the comrade

We encourage you to review and correct the translations below.

And now some truth gentlemen…

One misdemeanor two years in jail, that’s the math of the new penal code. First they set up a fearful lie with “terrorists” and Greek Mafia that eventually scared the lie itself. They linked me to ΟΥΚαδες*, who I not only did not know, but value-wise and ideologically we are in opposite worlds . They linked me to “Greek Mafia” bombs which is a place that makes me sick. They used two of my personal friendships with people who have died to set up a script that would give medals to the Ministry of Civil Protection and feed lies to willing journalists. Their lie was exposed, but no one will talk about it.

During my time in prison I had developed friendships with various people who had experienced the conditions of incarceration with me. These friendships did not mean professional cooperation or common goals in our further life. The truth is simple and clear. The friendship I had with certain people, who have now been dead for some time, had nothing to do with either their professional or any other occupations. Their own business, choices, friendships and enmities were their own business, not mine. The media has dubbed me as a man who owned, not one but more than one, petrol stations in partnership with other people. A lie that never and nowhere has the slightest grain of truth and I challenge the police or the media who are so fond of repeating it to report the slightest evidence to back it up. Where I operate professionally is fully known to the counter-terrorism and all the other police agencies that have been watching me for years at my place of work. Then, in addition to being potentially involved in fuel smuggling schemes, they are now trying to make their stories even more inflated by trying to implicate me in cases involving cigarette smuggling and clashes between people involved in it… Another outright lie and I challenge the police and the media who are now reproducing it to find the slightest evidence that shows any connection to anything like this. The police who have had me under constant “surveillance” since my release if there was the slightest basis in these fictions you can be sure that they would have already set up an inflated case to sell another one of their “successes”. They even went so far as to report that they are even considering my involvement in blowing up the Aegina water pipeline, far surpassing previous stages of ridiculousness.

My life path was and is different. I had and have no connection with these places and if the media that are so fond of reproducing it, let them say a single fact, apart from the existence of certain friendships, which, after all, I have never hidden. If I ever went to jail for something I actually did (not like now that is the product of a frame-up) it would be for political reasons and never for criminal and “para” capitalist reasons.

My case was eventually separated from the ΟΥΚαδες and I ended up being tried by a single judge misdemeanor court for a simple misdemeanor. Continue reading “Greece: Two texts from the recently imprisoned comrade & former member of Conspiracy of Cells of Fire Christos Tsakalos EN/ES [Updated]” →

Greece: Solidarity Day on February 9, 2024, for the final release of comrade Pola Roupa & the immediate release of comrade Nikos Maziotis EN/ FR / GR / DE / IT

Posted on 2024/02/05 by darknights

We call comrades in Greece and around the world to be vigilant and act in solidarity:

9/2| SOLIDARITY DAY FOR THE FINAL RELEASE OF
COMRADE POLA ROUPA & THE
IMMEDIATE RELEASE OF COMRADE NIKOS MAZIOTIS

Comrade Pola Roupa and Comrade Nikos Maziotis were sentenced to several years in prison for their participation and action in the guerilla organization Revolutionary Struggle.

They were imprisoned and served the combined 20-year prison sentence to which they were finally sentenced (after the “breaking” of their life sentence for the bombing attack on the Bank of Greece-branch of the European Central Bank-office of the International Monetary Fund in Greece, by Revolutionary Struggle Commando Lambros Fountas).

Comrade Pola Roupa served 8.5 years of real prison (13.5 years mixed), while her partner Nikos Maziotis has already served 11 years of “closed” prison and a total of 14 years mixed. That is, 3/5 of their sentence as state laws dictate.

Comrade Pola Roupa was released from prison with restrictive conditions on November 17, 2023, and a few days later, on November 28, 2023, the deputy prosecutor of Evia filed an appeal against her release, requesting that she be taken back to prison. This unprecedented event led comrade Pola Roupa before a new judicial council at the court of Chalkida on January 10, 2024, in order to judge from scratch whether she will remain free or continue to be a prisoner in the cells of the republic.

The definitive release of comrade P. Roupa from state hostage-taking is the immediate political issue as they seek to put her back in prison. The regime itself questions its jurisprudence and retracts itself: it initially “allows” the release of comrade P. Roupa, while subsequently attempting to reverse its decision. The aforementioned mandated minion of the political and judicial power – vice-prosecutor of Evia – with his move proves the extreme vindictive way of dealing with the political enemies of the state and capital, and especially the armed combatants.
Comrade N. Maziotis has received 4 parole denials in two years, because he remains unrepentant. This “special” treatment of exception does not stop, even after the many years of persecution and captivity imposed on them. Thessaloniki, Greece: Responsibility claim for a raid on a MAT (riot cop) bus

Posted on 2024/01/12 by darknights

The constant distortion of reality by the authorities and their sycophants everywhere.

On 22/10/2021 the 18 year old Roma Nikos Sampanis was shot with 36 bullets by the uniformed scum of the DIAS unit (motorcycle cops) in the area of Perama. This was preceded by the torture of Vassilis Maggos, which led to his death, followed by the rape at the Omonia Police Station, while on 22/09/2022 16-year-old Michalis was dragged and abandoned by an police vehicle in Ampelokipi in Thessaloniki, resulting in him breathing his last breath in hospital.

A little over a year after the murder of Sampanis, the 16-year-old Roma Kostas Fragoulis was murdered in Diavata, Thessaloniki on 05/06/2022 with a bullet in the head by a cop of the DIAS unit as he committed the crime of not paying for twenty euros worth of petrol.

On 11/11/2023 shortly before midnight after a chase, the cops once again murdered a Roma minor, 17-year-old Christos Michalopoulos. Two and a half months before, Kostas Manioudakis has left his last breath due to a beating by cops of the Souda police station during a random check. One month after the murder of Michalopoulos, a cop beats and abandons 19-year-old Ayse in the city of Xanthi, killing her.

To these incidents we could add countless beatings, torture, murders, all carried out by the police and silenced by the judiciary and the media.

In the few cases when police violence cannot be hidden, the mouthpieces of the state apparatus are quick to present the obvious as an isolated incident, that it was a bad moment or that the cops were in self-defense or that justice will be decided at a later stage.

It is worth mentioning that they try to throw tons of mud at the murdered person. Whether it is the criminal record, the social group to which they belong, or their political beliefs are emphasised over and over again, implying, where they do not say it outright, that it is a good thing the cop’s hand pulled the trigger. The presentation of the cop-killer is diametrically opposed. A family man with children, hard working for the safety of the citizens, with a social contribution, particularly beloved by the rest of the gang (“Hellenic Police”).

The media narrative changes the times when social revolt erupts and targets the perpetrators of so many murders. Suddenly the value of human life has become the ultimate good and the justly targeted uniformed killers become heroes wounded in the line of duty and unfairly targeted. Those who experience state and capitalist violence in their own skin and at times respond combatively to it are portrayed as brutal criminals with murderous intent.

To the apologists of the police: you and those who settle for the fairy tale you are selling are ridiculous low lives without a shred of dignity and morality.

To put it clearly and succinctly there is no room for doubt, the Greek police operate as a gang of armed potential murderers with complete impunity.

In this context we chose to carry out a raid with Molotov cocktails on 07/12/23 on the MAT (riot cops) bus on Agiou Dimitriou Street at the height of the Agricultural School in Thessaloniki. Continue reading “Thessaloniki, Greece: Responsibility claim for a raid on a MAT (riot cop) bus” →

Thessaloniki, Greece: Responsibility claim for arson attack on COSMOTE van in solidarity with Giannis Michailidis & anarchist prisoners

VICTORY IN THE HUNGER STRIKE OF GIANNIS MICHAILIDIS

Once again dystopia is dangerously close to us. The state is constantly inventing new ways to undermine more and more our living conditions. Labour rights are now a thing of the past as partial employment contracts, the daily dismissal of trade unionists, often fatal work accidents, wage cuts, and the repayment or non-payment of bonuses under extortionate conditions are the status quo. At the same time, it is becoming increasingly shamelessly obvious how expendable our lives are to the state apparatus. The 57 murders in Tempe, the daily deportations and repatriations of migrant women on equally murderous terms, and the more ‘indirect’ method of the state’s death policy by raising the prices of everyday products, electricity and gas, as well as rents. Of course, even if you have to pay for all this, no one can guarantee that the next day you will still have a house to live in, since there is no longer any protection of the first home and the cops and prosecutors may appear one day in your living room and literally throw you out on the street within a few hours with all the things you have managed to collect.

To enable this condition to be established, a lot of money was spent on hiring cops from every service and buying official vehicles, placing them in ‘key’ places like squares, universities, hills and playgrounds. Apart from their physical presence, the state is more present than ever before through the installation of cameras on every corner, illegally or legally placed, and through the microphones and cameras on our mobile phones. No longer is the ‘big brother’ a fictional character from a novel, but the terrifying everyday life in which we live and grow up, where social control is brutal and universal.

The context of modern totalitarianism could not fail to include the further “upgrading” of the prison system and prisons. The state and those in power, known for their fetishism in punishing and torturing anyone who opposes them, are constantly reinforcing the dungeons of democracy, aiming at the complete annihilation of the imprisoned militants. Thus, in the winter of 2022, in a more comprehensive attempt to fortify the state against the social upheaval that prevailed, the new penal code is passed. According to it, type C prisons were reintroduced under the name of ”maximum security prisons”, disciplinary procedures were tightened, the conditions for granting leave and for the temporary dismissal of those prosecuted under 187A or accused of robbery and drug offences were changed, thus discrediting the position of political prisoners. It also introduces a ban on the transfer of certain categories of prisoners to rural prisons. Providencia, Chile: Claim of the explosive attack against Fundación Paz Ciudadana by the Brígadas Anárquicas Luis Ramírez Olaechea (May 22, 2023)

Claim of the explosive attack against Fundación Paz Ciudadana by the Brígadas Anárquicas Luis Ramírez Olaechea (Providencia, Chile, May 22, 2023)

Claim of the explosive attack on Fundación Paz Ciudadana

Those who have been here, in the minority and diffuse practice, know that failing an attack is part of the many probabilities that arise in the bravery of the street, when we believe that everything is going well, we are surprised that something escapes from what was arranged and planned.

Deciding on an electrical system to detonate an explosive charge is not a whimsical decision, it is the result of studying the objectives, our forces and our resources for action. With a quick entry and withdrawal from the environment we prioritize the safety of our comrades, understanding that the materials at our disposal come and go, while the life and freedom of our brothers and sisters is the most valuable component of the arsenal.

These bitter situations are softened when we know from practice that although the State, police and prosecutors are careful to protect their territories, neighborhoods, institutions and infrastructures, the attack is still possible in contexts of control and passivity. The attack does not come to life in fervent virtual slogans, it is a threat when it bursts into the streets.

In the face of a mistake we could remain comfortably silent but we are proud to persist in action, charged with memory and militant solidarity. We take the words of the comrades in Bolivia, “Long live all the efforts of the anarchic struggle!” because to advance vertiginously along the paths of confrontation is a victory for our revolutionary horizons. We continue, we know that nothing is over and everything continues, and that our only defeat will be not to try.

On the objective

On April 2, 1992, a gang dressed in suits and ties burst into a large house located on the corner of Valenzuela Castillo and Marchant Pereira streets in the Providencia district in broad daylight to found what we know today as the Fundación Paz Ciudadana (Citizen Peace Foundation). No newspaper or television channel dared to treat them as high-risk criminals, despite the fact that among the attendees that afternoon were Agustín Edwards (great financier of the socio-political destabilization in the 70’s) and other prominent figures of Chilean political corruption such as Carlos Alberto Délano, as well as Nicolás Ibáñez and Nicolás Ibáñez, as well as Nicolás Ibáñez, a well-known ultra-right-wing businessman, who when he ran D&S boasted a life-size bust of Pinochet in the middle of his living room, and other members of Chile’s most powerful business groups such as Bernardo Matte and Guillermo Luksic.

Fundación Paz Ciudadana emerged when the longed-for social peace of the agreed transition was cracking and a hard blow was dealt to one of the country’s wealthiest families. A split of the Frente Patriótico Manuel Rodríguez kidnapped Cristián Edwards, Agustín’s son. After this event, the need for an anti-crime plan and a new Penal Code became urgent, since it could not be allowed the audacity of stalking the magnates of this estate. Athens, Greece: Responsibility claim for the attack on the head of the Prison Control Inspectorate by Direct Action Cells – ‘Cell Katerina Goulioni’

Posted on 2023/04/28 - 2023/04/28 by darknights

The Direct Action Cells take responsibility for the attack with a low-powered incendiary/explosive device at the home of the head of the Inspection and Control Corps of the Detention Facilities and Deputy Prosecutor of Appeals Spyridoulas Presveias at 13 Solomou Street in the area of Glyfada, in the early hours of 1/4.

We are sending a clear message to prison prosecutors, prison wardens, prison officers, wardens, directors, social workers who choose to treat prisoners as second-class citizens. Who choose to play dirty political games on their backs. Who become agents of the Ministry of Civil Protection in order to advance themselves and their careers. Gather round because you will find us in front of you. The prosecutor we targeted is at the top of the institution responsible for the internal control of prisons and is directly responsible for all the injustices suffered by prisoners, especially after the passage of the new penal and new prison code.

Spyridoulas Presvias as the head of the Prison Inspection and Control Corps (ΣΕΕΚΚ) is the person whose responsibilities concern the most authoritarian parts of the anti-crime policy. He was appointed by the (former) secretary general of anti-crime policy Sophia Nikolaou, a failed New Democracy politician and declared enemy of prisoners, who a few years ago did everything in her power to murder the communist revolutionary Dimitris Koufontinas. In recent years, and after her appointment as its head, the ΣΕΕΚΚ, in addition to conducting investigations and files within the prison, has been upgraded to a body that can take legislative and administrative initiatives to further repress prisoners within the prison. This agency and the upgrading of its repressive tools is part of the broader planning of the New Democracy government for prisons as reflected in the new penal code and the new penitentiary code and a number of other repressive moves they call anti-crime policy. The state may talk about a “war on crime”, but in reality the policies that follow these declarations do not reduce crime, nor do they work to promote the cohesion of society. On the contrary, these policies are the intensification of the war through the systematic class, social and political exclusion declared by the ruling classes against the social base. And the prisons constitute the ultimate point, the absolute domination of this exclusion over the bodies of those who end up in the concrete tombs of bourgeois democracy.
