In front of the steamrollers of industrial civilization and progress, one of the last sensible worlds populated by terrifying imagery and enchanted fantasies is disappearing before our eyes: that of the forests. Those that were a fiefdom of the lords who lined the hanged there, or a shelter to escape persecution. Those that represented the darkness where one could abandon one’s hungry offspring or the dense shelter from which to set out on the assault of the existent. Those that harbored mysteries populated by dryads and werewolves or that saw the warship builders and other master forgers come through to strip them en masse. Those that saw in Sherwood daring bandits plundering the rich, in Ariège Demoiselles (*) with soot-covered faces burning and plundering castles, in Courlande of revolutionaries continuing to strike fierce blows against tsarist tyranny, but also witnessing in the Alps or Poland the death by frostbite of migrants driven out by European border guards.

Fundamentally, forests are also ambiguous because of their very etymology, since forest stood for first and foremost the outdoor space not used by villagers-the word savage itself comes from silvaticus, meaning sylvan-before designating vast wooded areas reserved for the nobility and monasteries protected from peasant uses. By a singular inversion of meaning, the word forest, the perilous unknown that Roman civilization could not subjugate, ended up qualifying in a few centuries the territory par excellence of religious and feudal rule, before finally becoming a generic and rather vague term. Russia: A month of incendiary attacks against the war

On the night of October 16 at about 1:30 am, an unknown person threw a molotov through the window of the military registration and enrollment office, after breaking it, causing a fire inside. This is the second time that the office was attacked in this way, after the first time on May 18, when furniture and personal files of conscripts were destroyed.

On the night of October 14, an unknown person broke into the military registration and enlistment office (where two policemen were standing in front of it) from a neighboring building, broke a side window of one of the offices on the first floor, and threw molotovs inside. The guard at the military office did begin to put out the fire after hearing the sound of breaking glass… but in the process of putting out the fire, many documents were flooded.

On October 5, in the village of Zyuzino, an unknown person broke into the territory of a military unit at night and threw four molotovs over the fence of a barrack. Two of the bottles broke and caught fire, damaging the building’s siding.

Salavat (Bashkiria)
On the night of October 3, unknown people threw a molotov into the office of the local branch of the Communist Party (which actively supports the regime in its war in Ukraine). The fire was eventually smothered, but managed to smoke the whole room, covering it with soot. Remember that on September 24, the entrance to the premises of the United Russia party (in power) had been burned in Salavat using flaming tires.

Revolutionary solidarity is a sailboat without borders that rides the waves of the storm!

From Bure, we wish to send all our solidarity to our comrade Alfredo Cospito, who is currently in solitary confinement (called “41-bis”) in the prison of Sassari in Sardinia (Italy) for having shot the CEO of Ansaldo Nucleare, designer and builder of nuclear power plants, for having claimed his action and for having greatly contributed, from prison, to the debate on our modes of action, the diversity of tactics, internationalism and the revolutionary perspective of the anti-nuclear movement.

Any attempt to isolate one of our comrades will fuel our anger and revive the sparks that drive us to act. Alfredo Cospito’s struggle is also our struggle: against nuclear power and the technocrats who rule the world.

While the extraction of uranium and other rare-earth elements continues to ravage territories and destroy bodies, while nuclear “tests” or bomb trainings have contaminated the regions and inhabitants of Quirra in Sardinia, the Hoggar mountains in Algeria, Moruroa and Fangataufa in Polynesia, and other territories taken over by the imperialist powers, while in its war against Ukraine, Russia is using nuclear power plants as a sword of Damocles, Europe agrees that nuclear power is a “green” energy, France is rushing head first to build new reactors and Italy is questioning the shutdown of its production (after all, it didn’t mind continuing to build power plants in other countries, so why continue to pretend to have stopped, right?). The projects of burying radioactive waste, in Bure (France) and now also in Italy, are not a search for solutions to the contaminations that nuclear power has produced, but tools to allow nuclear power to develop, more and more.

The Italian state, in the vanguard of the repression of our struggles, adopts, not too surprisingly, the strategy of isolation. Isolate more and more: on an island far from loved ones, alone in a prison, in a cell in the basement. Sardinia, a militarized island, a training ground for special forces, with its NATO bases, is a node of the war. For a long time, it has been used as a location for isolating the most problematic political prisoners, such as the Red Brigades and the Nuclei Armati Proletari locked up in the Fornelli prison in Asinara, whose revolt of October 2, 1979 should be recounted. The Fornelli prison has now become a museum, but it has not made history of all the other prisons, it has not put an end to the confinements in the 41-bis special regime, and therefore it will not archive our struggles. Germany: The Italian state sentenced Juan to 28 years in prison DE/EN

DER ITALIENISCHE STAAT VERURTEILT JUAN ZU 28 JAHREN IM GEFÄNGNIS.

Am 9. Juli wurde unser Gefährte Juan wegen eines Sprengstoffanschlags auf ein „Nord Liga“-Hauptquartier in Treviso (Italien) mit einer „terroristischen Absicht“ zu 28 Jahren Gefängnis und einer anschließenden dreijährigen Bewährung, verurteilt.
Wenige Tage zuvor hatte das Kassationsgericht den Angriff auf eine Carabinieri-Kaserne in Fossano (Italien), für den die anarchistischen Gefährten Anna und Alfredo in der Berufung verurteilt worden waren, erneut als „politischer Massenmord“ (ein Verbrechen, das mit lebenslanger Haft bestraft wird) eingestuft. In der Zwischenzeit wurde Alfredo in das 41bis-Gefängnisregime verlegt, ein Regime der totalen Isolation, eine Form der Folter, das darauf abzielt, den Gefangenen zur Abschwörung, Reue, Distanzierung und zum Verzicht auf seine eigene Identität und seinen revolutionären Weg zu zwingen.
Die unverhältnismäßig hohen Haftstrafen (im wesentlichen lebenslänglich) und die Anwendung vom 41bis stellen einen beispiellosen Angriff auf die anarchistische Bewegung dar.
Sie stellen den Versuch des Staates dar, das Spiel mit einem Milieu zu beenden, das subversiv und revolutionär geblieben ist und das jahrzehntelange Ermittlungen und Verhaftungen nicht zu brechen vermochten.

Thessaloniki, Greece: Responsibility claim for the attack on the MAT platoons inside the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki

Just as the sun cannot set from the sunrise, the police forces cannot be on campus. We take responsibility for the Molotov cocktail attack on the platoons at the main entrance of the university in the early morning hours of Saturday, October 1. We took advantage of the advantage provided by the terrain morphology of the field and having an altitudinal superiority we ran the two MAT platoons into flight towards the Egnatia road. With a simple tactical move, which requires excellent timing and discipline, we took them by surprise as they did not notice us until they saw the light of the flame. As soon as we got within range they shouted in panic “COME ON!”, dropping their helmets and shields back. We retreated calmly and without a chase, leaving the platoons to seek their honor among the still burning flames.

Watching the domestic news of the last few months, one will see that despite the social reactions that have developed, the isolation and suppression of the antagonistic movement as well as the imposition of unprecedented social control measures remains a key objective of the Greek state. The gentrification of Exarcheia includes the construction of a metro station in the square, the redevelopment-privatisation of the Strefi Hill and the blocking of access to the Polytechnic and aims to uproot the revolutionary tradition of the area. Similarly, the installation of MAT platoons and all kinds of cops inside the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki aims to sterilize the university premises from any voice of opposition to the bosses. But beyond hitting the movements, the hiring of thousands of new cops, the millions given to equip the police and their constant presence in the public arena on every occasion set the tone of the new social contract. And all this at a time when society is being impoverished anew, with precision pushing those from below to the limits of survival. In a nutshell as Petsas arrogantly informed us adaptation (to capitalist and state dictates) or death.

The effort by the current government to restructure the education system and especially the universities begins the very next day after its election with the abolition of the university asylum. Their pretext was to crack down on lawlessness and instil a sense of security. This was followed by the passing of Law 4777 in the midst of quarantine to avoid major social reactions. The response to those that were manifested was a display of fierceness and brutality. Just a few examples:

the pulling of a gun by a cop at the ΑΣΣΟΕ (Athens School of Economics)

On Tuesday, September 20, a bunch of plainclothes cops (of various services according to their statement, led by State security officers) accompanied by a prosecutor entered the house we live in to conduct a search and at the same time notified us with a written summons that we are accused of a case from last year, for which both our comrades and friends Fotis D. and Jason R. are accused with ridiculous and fabricated evidence and have been held in custody for almost 11 months.

During their stay in the house they destroyed everything and took with them our personal objects of museum character, all the electronic devices that existed in the house and books/brochures/things that they themselves considered dangerous (the books in particular were what was in our library from comrade Dimitris Koufontinas and some other foreign revolutionary organizations, because apparently revolutionary memory gives the cops and the State nightmares)

Once again we witnessed the bad and overplayed film, the prosecution authorities, the criminalization of comradeship and friendship.

Of course we were neither surprised nor frightened by all this. As anarchists we know their mode of action (modus operandi) very well, we know that what frightens them is solidarity and that their aim is to terrorize us and win our silence. This will not happen from our side. In the last 14 years we have been at the front of all the social struggles, from the uprising of 08 that lit the fire that existed in us once and for all and the popular struggles of the period 2010-14 of complete class opposition, until today, all these years we have stood with dignity for the disappearance of misery, oppression, fascism. We have always stood by the imprisoned comrades and their struggles. This attitude frightens the State because the only ethic it recognizes is that of profit and exploitation. We will not stop being on the road of struggle, whether we are with our comrades on the outside or with our imprisoned comrades inside.

A song once said that the bourgeois were frightened and built fortresses, but the continuation of the same song says that the prisoners broke the shackles with one fist, the fortresses abolished the bourgeois.

Solidarity is our weapon.

And certainly we are not so short-sighted as to seriously consider this to be the case. Nevertheless, we observe with a certain uneasiness that both the real and the virtual spaces of exchange among anarchists of the German-speaking contexts are fading away. Even though individual projects still receive some attention and almost every tendency of informally organized anarchism has created its own web presence – even though there are still one or two printed and regularly published newspaper projects and dozens and dozens of brochures, books, flyers, newspapers, posters and stickers which are connected to the anarchist idea and wander from hand to hand among comrades – we ask ourselves, to what extent these succeed in carrying the anarchist debate into the public more than sporadically, in the (desperate) attempt to inflame at least a few hearts with the spark of the anarchist idea.

Repeatedly in the past it has been proven that if there is no better alternative, platforms like de.indymedia also have to be used for anarchist exchange. The problem is that anarchist contributions are often deleted there or – perhaps even worse – stand beside deeply authoritarian submissions that absolutely contradict the anarchist idea. No wonder: de.indymedia has always been a platform of the left and will consequently remain so. The fact that more and more decentralized (radical left) alternatives to de.indymedia are currently developing is, in our view, just as incapable of remedying the problem as other strangely conceptualized attempts to create synthesist platforms or even websites of unified organizations selling themselves as contributions to an anarchist debate.

So we want to try with this website, beyond any attempt to pursue synthesist thoughts, to open an informal forum of anarchist discussion, which includes the numerous existing web presences of anarchist projects as well as texts that have not been published on other websites before. It is part of an attempt to engage differing positions in a mutually beneficial debate, not to indifferently juxtapose the contradictory, and we are not afraid to end this attempt should it ever become that.

We choose the form of a web presence reluctantly, in the absence of a realistic perspective to launch a similar project in print or in the form of real encounters, at least in a way that would be accessible from the outside. However, we support all such projects and will likewise discontinue ours at any time should a more appetizing alternative appear on the horizon.

In this sense: Feel free to participate as you see fit and let’s raise the German-speaking anarchist debate to a new level.

Oust-Ilimsk, Russia: Making one’s war

Monday 26 September 2022, some days after the partial mobilisation decided by the Russian president, a 25 year old unemployed youth, with joyful walking, went into his hometown recruiting center. More precisely in Oust-Ilimsk, 600km north of Irkoutsk, in the middle of Siberia. Around noon, he went up to the building fourth floor, before reaching the meeting room were there already was the future recruits.

In front of them was standing the military center commandant, Alexander Eliseev, soon fullfilling the room with his martial speeches and shouting his first orders. Then, Ruslan Zinin said to the youths around him : “nobody will fight” and “now, we all gonna come home !”. Then, armed with his convictions, he pulled a hand crafted gun out of his jacket, and shot in the officer’s face. Useless to say the commandant did right away shut his big mouth when crumbling to the ground, before falling into a coma and being carried to hospital in absolute emergency.

Ruslan Zinin didn’t receive a mobilisation order to go to war in far away Ukraine, contrarly to his cousin or his best friend. He went to the recruiting center by himself, to make his own with a hand crafted weapon, before unfortunately falling into enemies claws, trying to escape. To this day also 54 recruiting centers or military administration buildings have been burned all across Russia since the beginning of war.
