Contributions from Jasul, Adit and Eat for the solidarity infonight in Bristol and London, UK, about the repression after the uprising across the Indonesian archipelago. The contribution can be translated and used for all solidarity events that take place that aim to raise awareness and solidarity about the Chaos Star case and the broader reality.

From Jasul and Adit.

Hello comrades, warm greetings from Bandung to Bristol.

We introduce ourselves as prisoners from what is known as the “Chaos Star.” This correspondence carries fragments of memory from years marked by chaos, surveillance, and arrests. We send this message from behind the bars of a prison in—so called—Indonesia. We are currently serving sentences related to the August 2025 unrest, the pipe bomb attack on a police post in December 2024, and the destruction of Bank Hana during the anti–TNI Bill protests in March and May Day 2025.

The unrest last August became the largest manhunt against activists and anarchists since 1998. This year, 703 political prisoners—although we reject that label—are still undergoing legal processes or are detained. We prefer to be called Anarchist Prisoners rather than Political Prisoners. This is an issue we want to critique. The label “political prisoner” places us within certain relations of power: we are framed as symbols of resistance, victims or survivors of a regime, or tools for legitimizing particular political agendas. Instead, we are Anarchist Prisoners. We reject the very foundation of politics itself. Our emphasis is on the autonomy of the subject and individual disobedience, without serving any project or representation tied to political agendas. By using the label Anarchist Prisoners, we assert a distance from the language of power and maintain a position outside the political field that seeks to regulate, define, and justify everything. Bristol, UK: Transcript of a talk by anarchist comrade Toby Shone at BASE for International Week of Solidarity with Anarchist Prisoners, August 2025

Posted on 2026/03/20 by darknights

This is the rough transcript of Toby‘s talk at the solidarity event for anarchist prisoners on August 31st, 2025, at BASE social centre in Easton, Bristol, UK.

Hi everyone

Welcome to BASE social centre, I’m Toby Shone, I’m an anarchist ex-prisoner from the Forest of Dean. I was in the Operation Adream case, which was a co-ordinated international police operation which involved British, Dutch and German police, at least, we could say. I spent three years in various prisons in UK, mostly under 23 hour lockdown in conditions of solitary confinement. I also had 9 months in a secure bail hostel under anti-terrorist restrictions, and 3 months of bail conditions where I had to sign every day at a police station in the Forest.

I want to thank BASE for giving me this opportunity to talk. I’m not going to talk at length. And I want to properly thank all the comrades in Bristol who supported me during my imprisonment. The last time I was here for the International Week of Solidarity event, which was in 2023, I was out on license. As you probably know, the Counter-Terror Police South West had a surveillance team outside, and this event was a major reason cited by the National Security Division for my subsequent abduction back to prison. I have the surveillance report here from the police, so you can see the material on BASE, see the angle where the police took the surveillance photograph from, and see how the Counter-Terror Police South-West regard us. So it gives me great pleasure to be here with you all, to remember our prisoners and write them letters, to eat and exchange with everyone. It has a lot of meaning for me to be here and speak to you. Bristol, UK: Forty fascists, 200 cops, and a city that wasn’t having it

Bristol Patriots march 7 march 2026
Bristol Patriots – 40 fascists protected by 200 police

An embarrassing collection of around 40 far-right activists called out by the Bristol ‘Patriots’ attempted to march through Bristol city centre yesterday but were heavily outnumbered by anti-racist counter-demonstrators and had to be protected all the way by a large police operation.

The fascist march, laughingly styled a “March for Unity”, assembled at the Cenotaph on St Augustine’s Parade before attempting to march through Broadmead, Cabot Circus and Castle Park.

However, their mobilisation drew strong opposition from local anti-racist and anti-fascist activists, who organised a counter-demonstration in the city centre and harried them throughout the afternoon.

Anti-fascists block the route

Police deployed more than 200 officers, including mounted units, to protect the fascists, and considerable force was used against anti-fascists trying to block the fascists’ route.

Around 200 counter-protesters repeatedly attempted to confront the march, chanting “Bristol is anti-fascist” and “refugees are welcome here” as the ‘Patriots’ moved slowly through the shopping district.

Their tiny contingent meant that police had to form a protective cordon around them for much of the afternoon.

Heavy-handed police response

According to Avon and Somerset Police, six people were arrested on suspicion of offences including violent disorder, assault and obstructing a police officer.

Batons and horses were used to push crowds back when the fascists’ route was blocked off. Continue reading “Bristol, UK: Forty fascists, 200 cops, and a city that wasn’t having it” →

On the attempted Far-Right attack on an East Bristol pub (UK)

Posted on 2026/02/18 by darknights

From Bristol Antifascists:

Yesterday, 25-30 members of Bristol Patriots attacked our fundraiser at the Red Lion in Easton.

They arrived together in vans and cars and tried to force their way into the pub. Due to the quick thinking of people there, they were shut out. There was a great community response as more people from the surrounding area showed up to protect the pub. Eventually, they were hugely outnumbered and forced out the area by police for their own protection.

The fundraiser gig continued and many of those who mobilised ended up celebrating the strength of our community at the gig, which was a roaring success. Continue reading “On the attempted Far-Right attack on an East Bristol pub (UK)” →

In August and September 2025, after the murder of a motorbike courier during a protest against government corruption and police brutality in Jakarta, Indonesia exploded into a huge popular uprising which rocked the regime of the ex-military President Prabowo. After the riots, the ruling elites blamed the “anarchists” for causing the unrest and they started to round up thousands of young people in major cities, blaiming them for taking part in the protests.

Across the country, young people were snatched by the anti-terrorist unit, ‘Densus 88’, and tortured until they gave false testimony. The regime attacked young people in the streets, delivery drivers, IT workers, activists, punks, journalists, musicians & others, who were all accused of serious “crimes”…

Come and find out about the ‘Chaos Star‘ frame-up of more than 70 accused anarchists. Come and find out how the cops were able to round up the anarchist, radical left and alternative scenes in Indonesia. What can we learn from the repression? What are the roles of anarchists during mass insurrections?

How we can support the hundreds of prisoners? Find out @ BASE, 15/3/26

Spoken contribution by Toby Shone for the Tattoo Circus, Bristol, 2025

Posted on 2025/12/01 - 2025/12/01 by darknights

This is from a talk by Toby at the Bristol Tattoo Circus, which took place a few weeks ago at a squatted venue in the city. After the talks and workshops there was bands, DJs and a benefit party. Free the prisoners!

Hello everyone,

Ok, we’re at Tattoo circus, my name is Toby Shone, I’m an ex-prisoner and anarchist. Tattoo Circus was started around 20 years ago in Italy as a way to fund anarchist prisoner solidarity campaigns.

I want to thank the organisers for inviting me here to speak, it’s very important as a released political prisoner to be able to come back into the community. Especially after living for a considerable amount of time distanced from the social movement. So overall, I want to communicate any lessons that can be told. Some of you already know me, so I’ll try not to bore you with what you know already, but for others I’ll just re-cap the case that I was involved in, then I’m going to simply give some anecdotes about my time in prison, and then speak about solidarity briefly.

I was arrested in the November 2020 Operation Adream case, and I was imprisoned for three years in conditions of solitary confinement and monitored for a year in line with UK-wide anti-terrorist restrictions by the National Security Division and Counter-Terror Police. From the evidence I’ve seen, it indicates that there is an ongoing investigation by the anti-terrorist units into the social movement in the South West region, and we can conclude that it’s also taking place across the country. I think it is certainly not for us to have to justify our harmlessness, but to really think about what it is going to take, long-term, for the type of social changes we’re aiming for. Bristol, UK: Animal Liberation Front slashes tires and smashes vehicle windows of pest control company Rentokil

Posted on 2025/09/18 - 2025/09/18 by darknights

5th June. Bristol UK.

[editor’s note: The anonymous ALF activists send two images of the action, but unfortunately they were corrupted and we have not received any other files. The image accompanying the report is unrelated.]

received anonymously via email:

“In the early hours of Tuesday 5th June, the Bristol branch of Rentokil, “the worlds largest pest control company” got visited by some uncontrollable pests, who took their time to make sure every tire was slashed on the 4 vans, then spraypainted and smashed at least one passenger window on each. Hidden away on a quiet industrial estate in south Bristol they had a surprising lack of cameras for the “the worlds largest pest control company”, any and every company that is complicit in the murder and torture of non human comrades is a target. A local shout out to the animal lib anarchists in the midlands and up north who are maintaining their attack on such targets and the liberation of comrades, let’s see some more of that down these neck of the woods! An international shout out to the ALF comrades in the Netherlands for the burning of 9 slaughterhouse trucks!

‘A TAD GNARLEY’

because having the patience of a saint never made it feel like we were getting anywhere or nearer to gaining any ground.

PDF: ‘A TAD GNARLEY‘

Authentically lived physical experience, rather than the void of social ‘recognition’ media. Down and out in the belly of the South West, filled with ‘propaganda of the deed’, the anger lives on!

Designed to be read easily as a zine or can be ripped, to be paste as A3 posters, which we did already the last year or so, all over the grey walls of Bristol.

Darko always present.
